What makes WoW so good

Im curious to know why everyone thinks this game is going to be so good. It seems like there is alot of hipe but I don't see anything that impressive. Im I just missing something?

OH and if anyone could tell me-- the open beta for Lineage II - is it open to only the people that pre-ordered the game?

I cannot say this enough. Open beta means EVERYONE. Closed is for private testing. Open is stress testing and gameplay. Download it now so you don't have to later. And Blizzard is just a good company, you can only hope that it's good but after all, they don't exactly create a lot of games in different universes, they just build off the same ones.

NM answered my own question... Lineage II is for people that pre-ordered. You need to have a serial code from the game you ordered from NCsoft or whatever it is.::::27::

NO!! ANYONE CAN JOIN!! JUST WAIT FOR THE 28TH!!! The pre-order was for the closed beta. Not open.

It's like a brand name.. past game was good and now has lots of money pumped into advertising.

Thus people think it has! to be cool.. With all honesty I've seen better out there but because they don't have the name warcraft or blizzard behind em they won't do as well and it's a shame. WoW from what I can tell is lacking in many areas. Hopefully they will fix them.

In a year or two we'll probably know.

Make no mistake, MMORPG's are not games, they are hobbies. If you have a job, you'll need to give up watching TV in order to play one. You'll be better off for it.

I think it will be great.  Blizzard has a past history of good games.  WC2, Diablo, SC, Diablo 2 , and WC3 all won games of the year and WC1 was running up.  I could see WOW being a great game, even though it is Blizzards first  mmorpg, Blizzard has a legacy going and i could see it being it being one fo the greatest mmorpgs of this year, if it comes out this year.

Whatever. WoW is simply one of the more promising games out there, so it's drawing attention. I've never played Diablo, or Warcraft, or anything Blizzard has done. This game looks innovative, graphically distinct, and very polished. "lacking in many areas"  ? Could you be a little more specific ?

WoW look good because of the details they put in the world.

Thing like wolves that goes deer hunting and come back to sleep in their lair. Thing like the breath effect that you see when in cold kingdom...

Such stuff will help the atmosphere given into WoW. If you also look at the graphic (ive seen them in play) you will see that they are very imersive, unfortunately we can't say that much of other games...

Another thing, it's Blizzard, they never made a boring title... why should they start?

Really? You mean mobs with an agenda? Or you mean hunter pets/orc mounts that live in a lair...or what?

From what i heard they are common mobs that do stuff other than following you and killing you...

    Pretty neat heh?

WoW has just taken up the pre-release hype that SWG had before it.

Blizzard have made good games in the past - with huge followings, so it makes sense that people would be excited by this game. But just because a company makes a good Real Time Strategy game doesn't mean that they can make a good MMORPG.

I hope WoW does well, and doesn't get the same backlash that SWG did when it didn't live up to peoples highly hyped expectations.

Nothing that Blizzard has announced makes me think that WoW will be anything more than a 'cookie cutter' MMORPG - this one will just have a bigger and more loyal following.

Oh, and btw, SWG has MOBs that hunt each other - my butt has been saved on many occasions when my attacker has been attacked by another MOB image

I've always been a fan of the expersion: "The proof is in the pudding."  Meaning you can't nock it till you try it, and if you actually read the beta testers journals, instead of just bashing the game, then you would probably see why so many people are excited about WOW.  Personaly, I haven't run across one bad review, ONE.  I have never heard of a title having that, ever!!!!  I mean when COH went beta I heard so much bitching and moaning it wasn't even funny, but wow is gets nothing but praise and rave reviews.  Sure they aren't accomplishing anything new, but has blizzard ever done anything new?  Even their award winning RTS are just rehashes of ideas other games had before them.  What blizzard is good at is taking those ideas, putting them all together in a blender, mixing them up, and comming out with the product sooooo polished you can hardly beleave it's the same tired old game play you've been experancing for years.

I don't know about the rest of the people on the forum, but I for one don't want to play a game baised on lofty half implemented ideas and false promises IE:  Shadowbane, SWG, and AC2.   You talk of trade marks and "Band Names".  Well if you mean I'm buying the product just because it says blizzard on it, your right.  Just as I would keep going back to the same master weaponsmith, when I wanted a blade forged right.  People, track record stands for something and blizzards is by far one of the best in the buisness and it's a diverse one:  I don't know if you knew this but blizzard is responsible for games like: Black Thorn, Lost in Vikinings, and Rock n' Roll Racing.  As well as the War/Starcraft and diablo serries.  Games that have weather the tests of time and have found their places on most critics top 100 list of all time.  To say that blizzard is only a master of RTS games is to flaunt your ignorane.  So shut up, and read some beta journals.  Actually go to Blizzards websight and read the FAQ.  IF you're that currious don't just let these bone heads tell you, do the reaserch and find out for yourself.  If your not willing to make that kind of commitement or have already made up your mind about the game, then you shouldn't have posted in the first place.  Personaly I'm sick of reading this blizzard bashing tripe, and I wish to be done with it.  Read up pall and then see where you stand.  Then come back here when you have a informed comment to make.
