Well it turned into a raidfeast with no alternate advancement methods. I have lost absolutely all hope that things will change for the better. The expansion looks to be just more of the same just with a sugar-coated surface after listening to many of the beta testers. My guess and again its just my guess is that the so called casual content is just the 10 levels to reach 70 and its back to "normal" I hear that the arena pvp will have items on par with raid items but the people who will reach the top on the ladder to obtain these items will most certanly be the "hardcore" with already awesome gear. You wont ever see "Joe casual" competing for that kind of gear, he will be too busy still getting 1,2 or 3 shotted if he tried to play with the "big" boys. The 5 and 10 man dungeons will have good gear, my guess only on the toughest difficulty which will be balanced around already awesome epic gear. And so on, and so on. One last prediction...it wont take many patches before the next hard core raid dungeoun gets added, and after that a new 40 man. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! The day they replace hard work and grind with fun that is the day I will be back. I am paying to get entertained not to "work" I am already working hard in real life. Obviously and sadly WOW and MMORPG doesnt seem to be for my kind, hopefully War will change that....if not oh well I'll spend my cash on something else heh
I echo your feelings on this. How many ads and interviews did we see that WoW will be so casual friendly.Yet to date i never seen a game that requires you to raid as much as WoW.Why?Because its so gear oriented.Gear >all in this game. And by a long shot.
However,i will try TBC but i am pretty sure it will be same at level 70.sure the tier 2+ will be not as good as the stuff you get from simple dungeon runs. But once people hit 70 they will do raids again and it will outclass by far anything you got in 5 man runs. And pvp will once again be some group of tier uber tearing through the casuals like paper.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I keep track of what's going on with Diablo. And there have been quite a few hints a Diablo 3 is in the works. Blizzard is definitely up to something although they have been very hush hush about it. Right now I can only believe it would have to be Blizzard that would cause WoW to decrease in its subscribers. My best guess is that it would be World of Diablo. Although there is a possibility of a World of Starcraft.
Edit: I know if there was a World of Diablo, I'd be there in a flash.
hehe i lasted maybe 6 months i left quite early and I was playing it because i had nothing else to play. I found it quite shallow and too easy, but that's WoW I suppose.
I am thinking about going back. I have friends that are still playing and they are talking about how that battle grounds have changed and that pvp is more fun. Plus I have also heard that some world droped greens are going to be better than some of the dungeon droped armor with the new expantion.
~*~*~Rlena~*~*~ I Don't Need To "Get A Life." I'm A Gamer, I have LOTS of Lives!
I only managed to play WOW for a week before I was so disgusted that I left for greener pastures. My 3 reasons for leaving:
1. Within the first 24 hrs i was told no less than 20+ times that my character was hot and had great boobs. How sad is that? I changed servers seeing if perhaps it was maybe an immature server and lo and behold the second server I tried (and this time I played horde) was no better. I kept getting random invites to group that I never asked for, and the constant chatter of a nature which I would not repeat in a public forum that was under the age of 18. Now I am not a prude.. seriously and I can joke with the best of them. But for this being my introduction to WOW and my free week of playing I turned away and never looked back (basically this was the final straw).
2. My main reason for wanting to play was so I could join the guild that my friends were on but they were alliance and i WANTED TO PLAY A COW~ So unless I played a winged eared elf (the only other character I wanted to play other than a tauren) I was SOOL.
3. Way to flat. was hoping for some killer graphics but the characters faces were painted on! and their armor was also painted onto their bodies.. YUCK. Just my opinion, but sorely disappointed in this.
WOW did one thing right that SONY needs to have its butt kicked for... at least on WOW Mac people can play PC people. EQ2 is PC only which is why many of my friends went to WOW, it was one of the ONLY mac mmorpg's available.
No way TBC can get me back with all the mmog Q1 titles that will soon release. My sub is still payed for and waits to expire but it simply serves as a chat with friends there. No content/feature in the game can get me to return after Ive seen the core. It was fun 3 months though.

i would in fact, not try the game, i would pop in for free for a while to talk to old friends, that's it.
the truth is, WoW hasn't gone anywhere for months, there have been no patches that are ground-breaking for months, there has been nothing new added that involves more than 15% TOPS of the population for months.
all the patches have been are high end dungeons and talent revamps. why weren't the talents balanced in beta? i was told they were released in late beta...
my response was that they "opened the flood gates without paving the canals" which results in them failing, i don't care when they released it, it should not come out if it's not fixed, that's how we get trash and misinformed developers.
Blizz took a high road and did pretty damn well, having a polished game, but if a few more things were broken it could have EASILY gone the way of SWG, with the devs rushing to "fix what should have been fixed in beta" only to send the game into alpha.

I'm trying to figure out if you're filled with Christmas cheer or just booze.
I thought about returning but all my friends that do play, just raid constantly. I don't have the time nor do I want to raid every day after work. I have better games to play with my free time. So.. No I won't buy it.

they going to make it a free expansion or MAYBE $5 american tops? if so, sure. if not, nope.

hunters. yeah, look at hunters for the first year+ -- one long series of mistakes.
EVERYTHING is a grind. want to get that cool bop recipe from timbermaw hold? sure, np, just kill 5 bazillion of their enemies. rinse, repeat for 20+ factions with recipes/items. fighting 10-40 people for limited spawns to kill a bazillion of them to get one item is not on my list of "hey this is fun".
pvp was/is a grind. play 24/7 for a few months and you could get the uber gear from pvp. now, this is WAY FAR MORE time than anyone grinding in a raid EVER has to play, and yet the items were incredibly sub-par to the raid items.
keep in mind now, this game from before retail release was touted as 1 pvp oriented and 2 casual player friendly. so there's two great big strikes against it.
pvp has been enhanced... you can go to this desert, silithus (a desert mind you) and collect rare objects so that you can get a bonus to your pve grinding for a while. the rare item you collect is SAND, and it's a race between you and the opposing side (alliance/horde) to get the SAND first. mistake + everyone that supported that idea should be fired, and then shot.

I thought Guild wars was Diablo 3. Hellgate london is more like an FPS-RPG hybrid like Dark Messiah I think.
I have to admit that WoW is getting out of hand with the PvP items to be gained. First it was about ranks, then they made it easy to get by far e.g. roughly 4 days to get full of them and then a week later they nerfed it 30% less of honor gained. I for one havent played WoW for a long while now since I just got bored after getting Highest rank last year and then raided a few months and then it gets boring. I came back a few months ago to play Cross Realm PvP for some challenge and yet there was hardly much changes. It became boring again. I really dont see BC changing much things of interest.
I however still remember when I first got WoW, the first leveling was fun and PvP was okay and yet , Warcraft was about Factions between Horde and Alliance and so what I kept thinking of was leveling to 60 and then gathering people to attack enemy capitals to kill their special character. But as you all know to those that have played from start till Battle Grounds released. The incentive to take out capitals has gradually today died down. There was no point since there's no reward in killing Capital bosses, so Battle Grounds and this Arenas released well changed the total ways of how Warcraft was made from the beginning in a sense it seems. You now just compete in games known as Battle Grounds that are the same repeatedly and not a proper World of Warcraft to fight off their enemies. You just fight for marks here and there for reputation and that just felt to me killed the game . So here I wait in hope that Warhammer Online will change what this mistake that WoW decided to change. The incentive of REAL world war in the game and not some Battle ground that doesnt change anything.
BC will be the same thing as EQ2 expansions... add a little bit of everything they already have and add a couple of new features... same game... more items/things to do... but still the same game.
My WoW days are over... i rather spend my time waiting for TCoS, Darkfall (hopefully it comes out within 10 years from now),vanguard, and a couple of other titles... o yeah and getting money for a new PC... i desperately need a new 1
Originally posted by trigger190 Most of my friends still play it, but I left because I didn't like the end-game content and because they game overall just feels really boxed-in with no freedom.
QFT. This game could have been so much better if Blizzard actually cared enough to work on it. Instead, they've been so obsessed with balancing everything to match their precious Shamans and Paladins, and releasing "new" content (read: re-skinned old content) that they haven't actually DONE anything.
If anything, they took the game in reverse by destroying the one thing the game had going for it, which was the macro and addons system. I might consider returning after they fix it, but even then my answer is "probably not."
I hate WoW. It is a extremly uninteresting game, and i cant see how 7 million people plays it.
The quests are like ''Go kill X of that'' and/ore ''Go get X of that'' ore a double combo ''Go kill X of that, and get X of that'' The graphics are really childish, No man with respect for themself will call it good. The sound/music is fine though. The community is pretty imature, But i guess theres no way around it with 7 million peps. The endgame is terrible, 60 man raids, Instances, Grind grind grind, Z0mg i need that freaking gear!!! PvP is pointless, Full of twinks.
I left World of Warcraft due repeative gameplay. Everything I did, I done already so nothing new for me. This BC expension is just a scam. There is NO way that Blizzard will release this in January 2007, June or July sounds more realistic but we will see how things go.
So far I do not have any interests in this expension basicly because of World of Warcraft's community. Most people think it is quite OK, but in my view it is not. Blizzard employees only respond on you posted ''ticket'' but in 9/10 times to just throw it in the bin and do nothing with it. If they did, WoW would have a safer and more fun gameplay.
People who don't want to return to WoW... if you could try the expansion for 1 week do you think it would change your mind? Would you even try the game?
For people like me who don't like to raid is it worth it, that is the question?
My point of view.....
On one hand you have Bliz that reassure that they have switch their focus from raid or die to support more gameplays then just raid. On the other hand you have the same people for the last 2 years refusing to acknowledge there even existed a content problem for non raiders.
During many of the heated debates on their forums they justified numerous times them spending almost 100% of the design focus on new raid content with the absurb statement the non raiders had more content then raiders. You know non raiders had Maraudon, brd. dire Maul was counted 4 times for each of its wings and so on.
So take a look a BC, has things improved? While there are several 5-man dungeouns, most if not all are leveling dungeouns, just like Maradoun, brd, Dire Maul ect Take a look at the end game dungeouns, a 10 man and numerous 25 mans. So has things really changed that much? It doesnt seem like it to me.
Now they have added difficulty levels on the 5 mans so the "casual" content is to go back to these dungeons and run them again, now against mobs that have more hit points and that hit you harder. Go and take a look at the beta forums and see what people say about the rewards for running on elite mode. So again it seems like re running "old" content will be the end game content for non raiders, sounds familiar?
and if you think the average Joe will be able to compete in the pvp ladder system for raid equivalent loot, you will be surely dissapointed I'm afraid.
For me the best time in this game is Level 1-20ish why you might ask?
The game is about character progression, you progress either by leveling up or by new equipment. Especially in the first 20ish levels or so you can advance you character by getting item upgrades from grind, solo, duo, doing instances, quests, pvp, raid and by trade skill. You have several choices, multiply avenues are open for you. Once you reach L60 its just raid or in some cases extreme grind.
Again to me it doesnt really look like anything has changed and as long as there is no serious competition out there things wont really change either I'm afraid.
- I don't like the PvP mechanics - The community has far too many leetspeaking 'tards and I don't feel like server hopping to find a good one - I was thinking of coming back to level a Draenei or BE when I found out that there would be no new old-world content outside of the starting areas. - The LFG tool has made it far harder to get groups according to several friends currently leveling on new servers (I can only imagine it's killed PUG raiding for 60s too). - Blizzard's attitude towards its community is often one of contempt. I'll be damned if I give them money to make sarcastic comments when I'm reporting broken game elements. (just been reading some of the LFG tool threads on the forums over there)
All in all, too little's changed to make me shell out 40 bucks and give it another shot. No MMOs for me at the moment.

- I don't like the PvP mechanics
- The community has far too many leetspeaking 'tards and I don't feel like server hopping to find a good one
- I was thinking of coming back to level a Draenei or BE when I found out that there would be no new old-world content outside of the starting areas.
