Voyage Century Quick Review

asciiriderasciirider Member UncommonPosts: 16

Well I can't rate it on the games page So, I'll post here.

The game actually launches for beta today, Dec 22nd at noon Eastern Standard Time, but I was lucky enough to participate in yesterday's 4 hour pre-beta warmup party. In 4 hours I was hooked!

The game has all the standard MMORPG features, like crafting, fighting, learning different skills etc. But what makes it different from al lthe others is the ability to fight at sea in the style of Sid Mier's Pirates as well. Don't feel like fighting? can always harvest resources by mining, harvesting and fishing. The graphics are on par with pay games such as EQ2 and Guild Wars.

The website has a fairly decent guide to tell you how to do most things, only problem I found is that the text color and background color on the guides is the same  so need to highlight. ANd since it's based in China, the wording may confuse people a bit, but they try really hard.

Overall I'd give this game a 9 for a rating

the official website is http://voyagecenturyonline.com

I just logged in real quick to create my char and reserve the name.

I don't think i'll get a chance to play it much until I get back from vacation next week though.

We shall see how it goes.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

image I agree with Asciirider....odd, but anyhow it is a good game so far, great graphics, and pretty good game play so far. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all.

This game seems to be the good surprise of the year. I didn't expect it at all, but at least after the few first hours of play the feeling is really good.

To make a summary, like eve-online but dumbed down and with avatars ;)

Yeah  some of the help is hard to understand, but I have been watching this game for a while.  Thanks to the eve-online mention I may give it a shot image

    I dont like this game.

The whole Interface looks Cheap and the Grafics are on EQ1 Niveau NOT EQ2,like mentioned in the First Post.

The game is fine, and the graphics are an par with eq2 depending on how strong your computer is. The interface fits the game, granted its gameplay isnt for everyone, its not as bad as your word it.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. For you to tell this person the "game is fine" sounds like you're trying to defend the game for some reason.

I try every single MMOG and give it a fair and honest attempt. To say Voyage Century is "fine" and "the graphics are on par with EQ 2" is certainly your opinion. Now I will express my opinion.

The game is laughable, at best. The graphics reek of a 5 year old game. The interface is atrocious. The PvE is mind numbingly dull. I've engaged in more exciting ship combat in 2D console games. The one thing I did like were the neat little things people were doing like farming or the several people I found chopping away at a tree. However, that certianly isn't enough to give this game any redeeming quality. I was completely bored after a couple of hours spending a good hour on land and a good hour on the water.  It got old, real fast.

The game is pretty original. It is very similar to Uncharted Water Online, but it's free and released in english which makes it the first game of it's type here.

Graphics aren't great, but since it's a free game it wants to be as accessible as possible to a wide range of people.  Many korean games are made with the netcafe crowd in mind.

Gameplay is kinda herky jerky, and the leveling and skill depth is pretty low.  There is variation as far as the 4 professions, and the ships dont look that bad.  Theres also land combat which is cool, nothing special but its a nice feature.

Game isn't revolutionary but it's worth checking out. It's free, it has a certain appeal, and I would recommend it as a casual getaway from the average mmorpg.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

i agree to it wasn't worth the 1.3  GB download ,the pve at sea is so lame u just circle around shooting a boat ,wich could have bin done better ,the quest system is vrry confusing ,the visuals are well ..their pretty lame for me

and because of that game i'm on smallband lol so i kinda hate the game :D

but evry1 has the right to say and think what he wants

My $.02, if I may. No, the game is not a technological breakthrough in graphics. And I agree the U.I. could use some adjusting. Also, I do wish they would hire someone who actually speaks fluent English to translate the game for the English speaking world they are aiming this port at.

However, for what it is, it is a good game and I'm having fun with it. I find new things to do all the time. It's something new to pass the time and get lost in; instead of the cookie cutter L2 model, which most asian oriented games seem only too happy to throw at you or the orcs and elves done by most western games these days. I like it, and that's all that matters to me.

But I do realize that the game will not be for everyone, so if you're interested, give it a shot. If not, I hope you find something you do like.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone

Give it a rest. Or did you not see that there are more than one option, including (other) where you can just use any number you want. It is used to verify that it is your account if you need to talk to customer service, etc.

You are obviously are ill knowledged that SS theft and even asking for it online in any way is a complete and utter no no.  Read up on how easy it is to use and abuse them. If you trust any site with your SS (even a legit game)  then go right ahead and allow your life to be possibly ruined.  The Passport option,  do I even need to get into that one. It has an option for Other but don't let that fool you to thinking that it is curtesy. The fact of the matter is that  asking for SS and passport and other personal information is violating you and possibly leading you into a hole. There is no reason those options should be there especially if you can choose other and put any random numbers in there.  I really don't see why you are defending. Take my word especially when a friend of the family has gone threw a dilema wit his SS beign stolen and used from online use. He had been on the phone 3 hours every day for a year trying to clear up the loose ends and you know what a SS can never ever be changed. Only a lock can be set on such linked accounts and thats no fun, trust me.

I am fully aware of the dangers, which is why I chose "other" instead. Anyone with a brain would. What you have to remember, is that this is an asian game port. Korean games in particular, normally ask for a person's KSSN number, their version of the SSN, because of government laws requiring them to. I agree, it's not the best thing in the world for them to ask, but the fact that there are other options narrows the chance of fraudulant use. And frankly, anyone who would be stupid enough to give out their SSN # deserves what they get. If it did not have any other option available, then I would have not signed up. Do they need to change it? Yes, I believe they should. Does the game deserve to be shut down? No, I don't believe so.

You can change the resolution editing some ini files. No big deal... you can do a lot editing ini files.

Alls I have to say bout you is. Ignorant. You probably believe this world is perfect and that everyone has knowledge of internet theft and the possibilities that giving out such info can be harmful. Go live in your perfect world by yourself because your not living in reality. You tend to just call people stupid for not having the knowledge you have.

Your personal opinion of my ignorance, considering your nice little rant, mens squat. I in no way believe this world is perfect.. You would have shattered that illusion for anyone. And I didn't call anyone stupid, but your nice comment calling me ignorant is flaming. I would strongly suggest we agree to disagree. Merry Christmas.

Some clarification is due. In china and some other asian countries most games need you to autheniticate you age with a SSC number. The system is actually under review due to the ease of getting a faked ID number. Generally speaking the Ports of such games to the USA have vestigial components of the system left behind.

The developers generally dont care if americans provide a SSC number which is valid because it isnt legally needed.

Oh and as someone noted you can adjust your resolution and graphics levels in your .ini file. This is allowed by the developers and if you ask a developer how they will tell you to change your .ini file.

As for the game, I quite enjoy it because it reminds me of Pirates! by Sid Meir. The gameplay is quite a bit more like a MMORTS. Although there is quite alot of RPing. In anycase I like the game alot . The graphics are satisfying enough though I aggree it would be more along the lines of Eq after the graphics update.

You can actually change the resolution (it requires changing some ini files) and anyone with half a brain searching on the Voyage forums would have found out how in a few minutes.

I have mine running at 1680 x 1050 on highest graphics settings and it's amazing!

  • TechleoTechleo Member Posts: 1,984
No need for insults Hadz. You are right though. The games pretty impressive at full settings. Deffinetly not a PoTbs but its fun in its own right. I dont know why but Im actually proud to call myself a fanboy for this game I've never been a fanboy before so this is quite a intresting situation. Frankly Im finding myself supporting the game despite flaws Id normal condem it for.

As someone brang out in another post this game resembles Uncharted Waters to a high degree. That game was one I enjoy tremendously. Perhaps Im just enjoying replaying this genre of game in a MMo format. Whatever the gase I have alot more faith in Potbs now that I see the genre can be done well. I prolly wont quite this game even when Potbs comes out because I love the community.
  • I agree, the graphics and interface are not so great when you first start playing. But after about an hour, I totally got used to it and just started enjoying the game. I love it more than any mmo ive played mostly because I love how its historical and realistic. It has a few bugs to clean up but once they are fixed, this game will be just amazing.

Appart from some small spelling errors this game is turning out quite well, form what i know it is a translated version of a korean game, seen some previews and movies that make the later game look AWSOME.

so is it one of those games that "free" but then in order to get any kind of upgrade you have to go on their website and buy it with your credit card?  or is it truly free??
