EVE Online is offline for good?
Star Wars Galaxies never had schedualed or unschedualed downtime.
World of Warcraft servers are always up and the h4wt elf is not a 12 year old boy.
Everquest is stable.
Anarchy Online never went offline for more then 12 hours.
Ultima Online is still running.
City of Hereos never disconnects from map server.
Dungeon and Dragons Online has Gary Gygax as a narrating Dungeon Master and he sounds like a drunk New York cab driver.
Checkers is more challenging then...
Working during downtime and server upgrades for the win!!

Hehe.. Found the reason for the Thread name.

You know.. I'm just waiting for someone to spin.. "24 hour downtime! Ha! That's why WoW is better than EVE!" ...I'm not sure how that war started.. but.. why does 1 three letter game hate the other? Can't we all get along?!
You Sneaky bugger.
So did i but in the end this shows that we need a sarcasm smiley.

What? And give up on all the cheap laughs at the expense of those who don't get it?
LOL, SWG had 1 hour downtime every day for server reset
WoW went offline for about 6 hours of primetime on a saturday the last time I subscribed to it just to fix an issue that only affected a few people riding one boat in the game, otherwise, you wait in a que most of the time, which is down time in my book anyhow
Everquest has never been "stable" it's had periods of stability between patches, if you had played the day Luclin went live, you'd know what i was saying
AO has had the least amount of inconvenient downtime I have ever seen, but they have bugs abound, indicating they could use a more aggressive patching cycle
I never played UO, so can't comment there...same with CoH, never played.
My point is, I can't see that you know what you're saying because every game you list has a subscriber base, has bugs, has updates and has to take the servers down sooner or later to fix them. EVE is no different. If you want to hate em for fixing the service in whatever capacity, then don't play just to show them off and it won't concern you if they are down or not!

Maybe there is a good reason the guy spell so horribly?...

Heh, I guess not. Perhaps I missread the intent. I've been dealing with a wrong entry on credit report today and probably lost it in the frustration, LOL. I was just defending EVE though, hehe, I've really been enjoying this game.Yet 24hrs downtime is far from optimal. Lets bring in a bunch of new subscribers so CCP can afford to duplicate their server farm for patching, eh? That'd be extremely cool - switch the farm to mirrored servers while patching and then switch back.
You'd probably still see downtime when working on the database server, but still - should reduce it a whole damn lot.
Happy EVE player and sorry to get all off topic (serious) here, but theres always room for improvement and this certainly is an obvious place to improve.

24 hour downtime is nothing considering the node setup it has. A few years ago the servers would crash almost every day from Sept to Oct when the EU players started logging in, but that fixed with the big hardware upgrade they installed that winter.
It isn't like WoW where there are nodes with a small world and then each grouping of nodes has the same data repeated 10 times. Each node in EvE has the general data and then specific data for the area. Where as in WOW you have 100,000 people (if that) per node group accessing a small amount of data and not directly interacting beyond their node in EvE you have 140,000 characters that have the potential to interact anywhere.
The EvE server setup is really impressive compared to anyother game server in current use.
If 24 hours is what it takes to make sure that I don't have to go through something like that, I don't mind a damn bit.
The full 24 hour DT's are actually not that common, most have occured only with a HUGE patch followed by unforseen problems, or large hardware upgrades.
Standard is 1 hour quoted, but at times has been as little as 25 mins, then back up for another 23 solid hours.
