lol ... you are a bit slow Captain, and now you are certainly relegated to Beta Status. In fact if you read the thread I started we finished the recruitment sometime back and are considering five serious candidates. Applications are closed. I am really sorry we didn't deem your application appropriate, but don't worry "Mom's the Word" and I shall not go into details here about why you were rejected. <pouts>

Anagath, I'm with you on this one. Why the **** would you want to play you're having sex, when you actually can do it in RL? Use your money to shape up and get a gf instead of playing ridiculous sex games.

Not everyone can get a real-life GF for various reasons. They could be ugly, shy, too old, have a disability, socially marginalised, etc.

MMO fantasy, sci-fi and historical genres will soon be supplemented by Adult 18+ rated erotic MMOs. (Regulating the 18+ will of course be almost impossible) These new Adult MMOs are intended to be mature only gamers, intended for mature and sassy audiences. Sure, maturity varies from person to person, regardless of age. Minors are typically more immature than adults as it comes with the territory of adolescence. And, yes, adults can be very immature. What is certain is that erotic adult MMOs are the future of on-line gaming. How long will it be before Sony latch on to this new and emerging phenemenon? The 3D sex in the MMO environment will be graphic and common place within the next five years. Increasingly there will be many options for engaging in different types of sexual activity. These MMOs will provide both heterosexual and homosexual hook-ups for guy-guy, girl-girl, and guy-girl action. It is likely that these are split by the code, so participants can turn off options to see any types of such activity they dislike. People who cannot handle bareback riding can turn off dude-to-dude settings for example, whilst inversely; others can turn off everything except dude-to-dude action. Inevitably there will be dudes who only turn on gal-to-gal settings. This allows everyone to have the perfect world for their point of view. “Republik’s” Spend the Night was hailed as the next best thing in Adult MMOs. As developer Coshland said about “Spend the Night” "There will be virtual sex in the game, but it can be played without the sex," said Coshland. "The scoring model works whether you engage in sex or not." Spend the Night is like a virtual dating game where real people use avatars to engage in virtual adventures in a variety of game world settings. As gamers score points for dates, players win upgrades and unlock new levels and characters. This will keep players coming back for more and more and more. Here is Coshland’s overview:"A game in which adults are encouraged to indulge their sexual fantasies is bound to attract the media's attention but, so far, Republik's Spend the Night has been keeping a low profile. Come the middle of next year, when it launches online, that'll all change. Details are scant at present, and Coshland doesn't want to give too much away, but the basics are simple. Players go online, choose a graphical identity, mooch around with other players, find someone they like, and find a room. Graphics claimed to be 'cinematic' are promised, and a simple interface allows the action to proceed. 'This is a fantasy multiplayer dating game,' says Coshland. 'It's not like the dating games that we've seen coming out of Japan where you try to win the favor of someone of the opposite sex. We're providing more of a game where two people can go on a date and interact in a 3D space.'"And then just a few months back US developer Republik Games announced that work on its "erotically charged" flagship title, Spend the Night, has been suspended after the company failed to secure extra financing. Republik had already completed two successful rounds of funding for the game, which was "well into production", according to an official statement. "The past few weeks have been a rollercoaster for the company," said CEO Robert Coshland - observing that Republik's website once received 1.8 million hits in a single day, and that more than 100 people sign up for the company's mailing list on a daily basis. "Unfortunately, game development is expensive and attention doesn't translate into operational funds," Coshland said. What a shame eh .... still the Red Light Centre is open for business if you want to trawl the virtual back streets of Amsterdam. A more pedestrian offering comes from EGirl v.1.5 described as the world's most advanced interactive 3D sex game for your PC. “With your PC and EGirl software, you'll be talking and interacting with extremely realistic and life-like, sexy 3D girls, and soon men - they're so real, you won't believe your eyes!” Mmmmm bet you can't wait eh .... So folks stop worrying about leveling up through your “grind fest” the next generation of games will literally be a pure grind, and as the girl from Femmes Fatales implied in a recent post “the power of the sexual” will come to predominate the MMO scene. Forget your narrow moralities, your small-minded fantasy indulgences, your shiny amour, your latest thrusting weapon or your pole arm and get virtual on your sexuality !

I'm not sure why anyone would want to play an Adult MMO. Are you not aware that you can do these things in real life? The reason we play fantasy and sci fi games is becase we can't do that in real life. There are no dragons. There are no spaceships. There's something seriously wrong with you if you'd prefer to play a sex mmo rather than go down to the local swingers club and experience the real thing.

Yeah, but I don't think it's heathly getting your "social interaction with the other sex" needs satisfied through a game. You're most likely to end up single all your life.

I believe that just about everyone can find somebody who wants to be with them. I understand the problem handicapped, both psychically and mentally have, but the rest should get out there, and then be realistic about who they can mate with.

My compliments to Danielle, this reads like an industry column.  (assuming she wrote it).

To everyone insisting that this kind of "Sex" is somehow immature and inferior to RL-sex, I pose the question:  Which is more dangerous?    Look at all the complications that exist in the Real World Dating and Prostitution which do not in VR:

    -Drug Addicts

    -STD's and genital parasites

    -Getting "Rolled"

    -Beer Goggles & Hangovers

    -Costly Alcohol exploitation

    -Date Rape

    -Bar/Club fights

    -Jealous & Violent Spouse

Sure it's inferior to a MEANINGFUL relationship, but how many people go out looking for those?  The natural state of human behavoir always trends more towards recreational stimulation so game devs and profiteers might as well just embrace that.  I mean if you're single but want to have casual sex every day or every week or whenever, it might as well be as sanitary and safe as possible if the technology eventually supports it.   Women can pretty much already have it this way b/c all they need for stimulation for the most part is the fantasy itself.   For un-imaginative guys, the Optical and Physical technology will just have to catch up I guess  (Can you say pocket-pussy with USB connection?  I can!).  The only thing missing will be Pheromone generation and I'm sure biologists or neurologists will eventually figure out a way to simulate those as well.

Nomatter how Macho you think you are in insisting that Neden somehow flows like water to you in RL, no one can deny just how much Profit there is to be had in this as a MAJORITY of money spent online these days is Pr0n-related.  No doubt that the first MMO that succeeds in this venture will easily have one of the highest Profit-to-Cost margins ever Seen.  Their only "hump" to get over will be finding investors who actually want such ill-repute in their Portfolios
  • MisfitZMisfitZ Member Posts: 368
While there is obviously a market for that type of game, I simply laugh at the idea that it's going to replace the fantasy genre. Get 'effin real. Sure, there's a shit-ton of socially repressed individuals looking for a bit of commitment-free titillation, but how many of them are going to subscribe to a game that revolves solely around that? Many would point to Second Life, There, or the Sims, but even within those games there's plenty to do that doesn't involve digital dicking down.

Either way, you sound like an idiot to me.

    -----------------------------
Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

  • illeriller Member UncommonPosts: 518
Who specifically are you calling an Idiot?  ...and what's your credible reasoning for that?
  • ThornwolfThornwolf Member Posts: 107
I think adult or sex themed MMO games are an excellent idea, the ones that are out there that are calling themselves mmos leave a lot to be desired.

That said I think adult oriented sex games will be along eventually, we just need to get more baby boomers out of positions of power. I never get over the fact parents let kids play games where you shoot zombies in the face and brains and gore splatter all over you and others like this all the time but "boobs" in a game will make their heads spin off like Linda Blair on crack.

Red Light District is laughable I am afraid, and Sociolotron is rough on the eyes.

This brings up a good point though. In just about every single MMO that exists, you'll find a certain amount of adult/sexual behavior.

SWG, in it's hay day, coms to mind quickly. Back it had a huge community of "role players" and player association built around things like S&M and slavery, all very adult type situtions. If I remember correctly, it was so prevolent that SOE actually had to release a policy against the behavior to cover their own ases.

Thinking back on it, I've seen it in most MMO's that I've played over the years.

Heh, I know someone who had a bounty on someone who forgot to lock the door of his house.  My BH friend walked in, to find a "role playing event" taking place on the bed.   Of course, my friend took advantage of his mark being in this vulnerable state (he killed him :P)

As for the overall issue, it's certainly not something I'd be taking part in.  That's something I prefer to do in RL ;)  I don't think it's up to us to say what people can and can't do in their free time though.  If they want to play an adult MMO and enjoy doing it, then who are we or anyone else to try and stop them?

I don't think stopping them playing these games was the issue. The theme of this thread to date seems to be the merits of such games.

    LMFGDAO!

Wowwwww... so now they are creating games for the ugly to have "sex" lol. Sorry some people are born ugly and need to find another ugly to compliment their ugly. A stupid sex MMO ain't gonna work. Game looks like it's ment for losers, sex fiends, ugly people, rapests, sexual preditors, etc.

A right minded person would just go out and get freaken laid for gods sake. Porn is used, because it takes a minute to get a hold of. Squeeze one off and go back to doing whatever to kill them hormones off. I don't think I'd wanna take 5hrs to get one squeezed off during a desperate time (you know we all have those times hormones go off the walls and you feel like rapeing a pillow).

Eh oh well. Figured it wouldn't take long for the whores(men and women) of the world to jump in on technology. *shrug* the game will make a few thousand big freaken deal. I'll enjoy a REAL game that's making millions kkthx.

I play MMO's to escape reality and I play females because I don't want to look at an ugly male (they always make them stupid or gay instead of kick f'kin ass. Except my male in EQ2 looks badass so I play male for him, but that's only because I have an illusion on 24/7). Who the crap would play a game for sexual reasons. Eh forget I said that. Ton of freaks in this world that need to be killed for being FREAKEN EXTREMELY WEIRD. I could see some people playing it for shitz 'n giggles, but seriously. It's just another place for younger women to be stupid and give out info then get raped/killed or same goes for men. WTFEVER. I'll never understand why some people are so.. dumb..

Yes lets do an epic panty raid! OMGF UBER LEWT! DILDO OF PWNSAUCE!.. lucky bastard.. rolled a 100/100! Not fair!

I can't raid dungeons or kill my best friend when i'm pissed or slaughter a town of people in RL. So I do it in the game. Sex is one thing i'd never want to surrender to the internet. Soon we'll have people sticking their naughty parts inside their computers.. tisk tisk.. I knew them old floppy drivers could be used for something!.. OH GOD i HIT THE FAN!.. CALL 91..aa god.. a.. a..uh.. */shout can someone rez me? sucky sucky 5 bucky? plz!*

Ok I THINK i'm done bashing on such an IDIOTIC idea and someone please assassinate the developer of such ideas.. kkthx.. World is shitty enough as is though. So I guess this couldn't hurt to much eh.

  • ThornwolfThornwolf Member Posts: 107
Well Kyle, thing is no one made you judge jury and executioner. There is more than one side to every story, and opinions as they say are like.. well you know. Personally I find your mode of communicating more annoying and detestable than people who might enjoy a bit of a romp through graphical world that enabled it's users to enjoy each other sexually.

Sex games have been around a long time, sex in games dates back to at least the C64, and those games were just plain fun in my opinion. Sex in games is not going to go away and in fact doing a quick Google of the topic will reveal a number of  mature, and interesting articles on the subject matter. These discussions have spurned interest in other concepts such as conception in games, and a number of other issues we have yet to see. Just because it does not appeal to you does not mean it is worthless as a concept, and not one of us has a right to insult others for stating an opinion contrary to our own.

Bottom line is sex is a pretty popular seller and in time you will see it more and more in our games. This has already come to pass, do I need to list the games where sex, and sexual situations play a major or minor role?

Ever play those popular gangster shoot up the town while stealing car games? You do know that picking up a prostitute gives you back full health right? Sex, in the game. There are plenty of other cases of it, and in fact one of the people in Sims  on-line made a massive amount of money off opening a brothel in game. If you care to read up on it the article I read was here: http://www.alphavilleherald.com/archives/000049.html

I see sex in games becoming just another sex aid, there are many and I can assure you that most of the adults you know have used and enjoyed them.

Can these worlds be harmful? Well maybe they could if people let them that is not  the fault of the game. It is the people who play them and the people they were raised by. Is Heavy Metal responsible for a kid going loony? Is AD&D to blame for suicide? So a game where someone gives out their real life info is not to blame it is the person who did it, and you can see that going on everywhere. Just look at to catch a predator. Do you blame Yahoo for all the perverts who use their forums?

Your post is hard to read full of  "leet speak" and "doodisms". I do not blame WoW for that. I blame you.

    Can you follow that analogy?
  • illeriller Member UncommonPosts: 518
I'm sure Kyle was mostly just trying to make a funny Rant, but you're right, his attitude is more immature and "ugly" than the justifications behind MMO's that would allow Sex (or currently already do).
  • GamewizeGamewize Member Posts: 956

    Hmmm, a Woo-hoo MMO.

I, As a Pacifistic Hitler and certified Taco Nazi(TM), which in no possible way have ANY bearing or additive effects to my charisma, can tell you that this would add a whole new level to the world "Loser".

Alllllll of it is self-explanatory, there is no need for a big post. Even playing with your GF/BF/Spouse would be kinda pathetic, especially because, as we learned back when we hit puberty, it's quite a bit better to actually DO it (I am mostly speaking of "alone time" here).

Im sorry but Swords and Goblins, Spaceships and Lasers, or Fictional Countries and Nukes are enough for me and most everybody, thanks.

And to add weight to your post, it's best not to insult people in anyway, even veiled metaphors, you'll just add an unecissary and debilitating element of hostility to your post.

I wanted to use more euphemisms but im too tired for that.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Actually, they've already made a solution to all those problems. They're called Realdolls and they're expensive ($7,000!!!). There are, of course, cheaper solutions like the VR Sex Machine ($440) and Teddy Babes ($700). All of these would be considered better than watching polygonal people doing the nasty. Come to think of it, there are interactive DVDs that amount to this same kind of game.

With all these different options open to the "ugly" (subjective term) and socially retarded, why would you need a game built around this? Especially since you can cyber in almost any game currently out there.

I remember seeing the Pixel Porn demo. That was pretty funny.

Really though 90% of the people who play MMOs are guys so a sex MMO is just guys gettin off on each other. Which I suppose is OK if your gay but then if your gay you should have no problems meeting guys to roleplay in RL with, unless your a shut in or really fat n ugly.

Now if there is nudity in Conan I wont object but obviously your not gonna take many hit points if you don't even have a shirt on.

As your an EVE player, I'm actually not that surprised by your statement.

    "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eve_online";

"As of October 2006 the average age of an EVE Player was 27: 95% male, and 5% female"

But I think the percentage of females playing in other MMORPG's is a LOT higher.
  • illeriller Member UncommonPosts: 518
That's True...  in CoH, a fellow SuperGroup leader of mine in charge of our websites and planning is a female, 1/3 of my global friends were females and we had atleast a dozen female members throughout the SG... One of the allied SG's was also run by a woman.   In GuildWars my Guild leader is female.     I don't know a lot of MMO's but I know the ones with the most outfit options, colors, and appearance customization with social interaction areas are going to generally have higher populations of women.  I've been on teams where females outnumbered the guys. ...and no they weren't just "playing as female characters" (though they all had a "boyfriend/husband in RL" just to be safe, lol).
