I do not have definite information, but I would assume that Sigil is not running Beta 5 on SoE's production servers, and that they are also running server side debugging tools which are causing most of the lag problems people are having.

You are in beta for 1 reason, and that is to TEST the game.  You dont need 60FPS and pretty graphics to make sure game mechanics are working properly.

If you are having such bad graphic lag then turn all the settings to the lowest quality.  Sure the game wont look great but you will be able to accomplish the testing that you are supposed to be doing in beta.

I think people forget that Beta is not a free trial, you are supposed to be providing a service for Sigil.  Not the other way around.
I hate to burst your bubble but the reality is that most people are in a "try before i buy" phase right now.Open beta implies the game is more or less done. For most players this phase is a stress test.

If ANY developer had any common sense not only would the game be at "gold" status but they would be sure to have its customer service reps online and on time. This is not just a beta test but it also a public relations opportunity.Open beta means no nda.It also means that players will be posting mini reviews.

IMHO no developer should be having an open beta until it is ALMOST ready to be played as if it is a launch date.If a player was to provide a "service" for Sigil or any other developer it goes beyond a "open beta".An open beta is just that.Open for ANYONE to play.A CLOSED beta is for testing the game and its functions. Most of the players picked were picked because they agreed not to disclose information and to do what was expected.THAT is a service provided. The payoff is they get to be involved from the ground up.

An open beta requires no nda signature and no NDA.

    What is your physical limit?

You want customer service  ?  How about the CEO answering any questions you have ?  How about him constantly posting to post in the forums.  How about you can msg him in game anytime you want during beta ?

He has stated the game is not done, but there out of money and need to release.   We cant fault him for this, the game has been in development for 5 years now and they need money to continue it.

    I run a 2 year old rig with an AMD 3.2 FX64, 7200rpm HD, 1.5 gig DDR400 Ram, & a GeF 7600 GS 512mb AGPX8.

I can run the game on High Performance until the partical effects start. I play on Balanced. All this whining is just that: WHINING.

Those of us that are experienced Beta Testers can tell you that the Lag in DDO one week before launch was UNBARABLE, and was 10x better right after launch. EQ2 was the same way. So was the Matrix, and EVERY other game I've Beta Tested. Tweek your machine and Test, or STHU.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

That's odd. Because the Holly Man himself Brad M said to only expected a 10% increase in performance by launch. Now I would have to bet that every ounce of that improvment comes from all the debug and extra loging tools turned off.  So, NO you are wrong and not the holly man you thought you were.

Whether it is a free trial or not is not the point for me.

I saw enough of the game in "beta" to make a decision. I saved myself $50.00 (or however much it is, haven't checked the price yet).

    I'm not a fangirl or a hater.

It is just a game for crying out loud. The world will not end for me or for Sigil if I don't play this game.

I have PLENTY of other games that I enjoy and I don't think I will be missing anything by not playing this one.

I had planned to buy it. Now I for sure will not be buying it.

That's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

    Taken from the beta forums:

ll try to field some of these:

    1) Server crashes are frequent, more frequent than most would prefer, but each one brings us closer to stable servers at launch. They are good and vital to the betterment of the game, even if they are a short term inconvenience during this beta testing phase.

    2) Performance is constantly being worked on, but don't judge everything by your FPS.

    3) SOE Hosts our servers, meaning we don't directly foot the hosting fees. Theres a difference between hosting 8k beta testers, while testing beta servers, and running live servers. It's an important distinction to make, and one of the cases where "It's beta" really does apply.

I hope that helps clarify some of your concerns. Thanks for sharing

Sony is hosting the beta servers, confirmed.  And they said without the debugging software and such in the background, you would see a 10% FPS increase
