A die-hard World of Warcraft player has reached level 70 within 28 hours of The Burning Crusade's release.
Gullerbone, a 24-year-old French WoW player, reached level 70 at 4:04 am (CET) on January 17, 2007. He is believed to be the world's first.
The Burning Crusade, the expansion to
World of Warcraft, the most popular MMO on earth with eight million subscribers, went on sale in the UK at midnight (GMT) on Monday 15 January.
One of the game's new features was to raise the level cap from 60 to 70. Most experienced players had suggested it would take a number of months at least to achieve the goal.
In an interview with
World of Raids.com, Gullerbone, who reached level 70 with a mage class character called Gawell, told how he had help from 40 in-game friends working with him around the clock.
He said: "
Cau (the 1st European lvl 60) and I planned the exp(erience) route step by step, trying everything to make sure it was the most appropriate, the groups organization with the guild Millenium and their members. Each member rotated using a definite order to help me to grind on mobs, mostly with AE, surrounded with several guildmate healers, tanks, pullers etc..."
Gullerbone used a tactic of 'tagging' computer controlled enemies, which allowed him to achieve experience points even though his guildmates killed them.
When asked how many players he had help from, he said: "
Well at first we had only five (during the first 10 hours or so) so that 10 of the members could get to lvl 62. Then in the morning we were 15 in order to kill the mobs at a faster rate. Finally in the evening, everyone was involved and we could gather a 35 man raid to help me in Netherstorm with our new lvl 62 doing most of the job."
The fact that a player has managed to reach level 70 so fast will not please developers Blizzard, who had hoped to see the Burning Crusade occupy fans for at least a year.
However, given the fanaticism of the World of Warcraft fan base, it was perhaps inevitable that a number of players would have devoted so much time and effort in to reaching level 70 as soon as possible.
When asked if he alone played the character non stop for 28 hours, Gullerbone said: "
I sure did. I slept from two to 10pm on Monday (woke up two hours before TBC launch), so the physical preparation was a part of the plan."

In EQ when they put it out they expected it to take players over a year to hit 50... the first 50 was within a month of release.
When Kunark came out they expected it to take months for the first player to hit 65... the first player hit 65 in a matter of a week or so if I recall.
And Blizzard? Good lord folks! It only takes a dedicated player a couple weeks to a month to hit 60 in WoW. What on earth made them think it'd take a year for people to reach 70?

Who gives a crap how easy it is to level. WoW is an Item-centric game.
If your level 70 and your gear is still lvl 60, you still suck.
This has nothing to do with how easy the game is. Speed running has been part of gaming for awhile now and the previous speed run to level 60 in WoW took 115 hours. I'm not sure if the first runner had planned his route and got together a team that large though. My guess is that he didn't and that's why he took 115 hours.
You could technically do this with any game that you know well enough. if you really want to get to the high level content, group with everyone that offers and invite as many people into your party as you can. The bigger the group, the bigger the payoff. This has been a fact of MMOs since at least EQ1, if not earlier.
Part of the reason that western gamers hate F2P Asian games is because they are naturally anti-social and don't group. Every MMO is grind if all you do is solo. Every MMO is insanely easy if you gather 20+ people into a party and go power leveling.
Class dismissed.
This tactic wouldn't work in Dark Age of Camelot. They don't use WoW's tagging system, where it was possible for this mage to tag huge groups of mobs... (while remaining out any group) and letting his guildies kill the mobs.... he got all the xp regardless who actually killed the mob... In DAOC....he who does the most damage gets the bulk of the experience points...
He's first to be powerleveled to 70... big deal...maybe he can get a job with some powerleveling services...

i quited this game because of things like this. i couldnt play it at a normale rate, having in mind my friends played it too. and whenever one of them were for example 2 lvl's higher then me, i got competitived and had to lvl fast. and people play it like it was a job, first they play all day, and dont care about community and fun, they just want to lvl! and then there is raiding...all the time. so i guess my point is that the game is about getting better then the one you know, not having fun or actually enjoing the game.
(this is as i perceived it, you dont have to flame if you disagree)
once you have lvld that high theres nuthing 2 do... They need to make it more skill orientated
get a job and live with it.

I wonder how many man hours it actually took total...
Yea, isn't 70-60 as long as 1-60. SO I bet someone could get 1-60 in the same time or less.
Uhm what MMO isn't like that?

How gay if he got that in 28 hours that leaves little to no time to explore or enjoy any of the new content really. He and his friends probably hit the nearest biggest dungeons they could get into and ransacked repeatedly. Lame - os

no surprise, there is always the people that will do this and quickly level to 70 using whatever manner possible. Every mmorpg has these, doesn't really impact the average player who will go a lot slower.
