The decline of the ozon layer is proven to be a man-made (or very much influenced) phenomena. Proof? Since the Montreal accord and the massive reduction of CFK's (that(s not Chiken's Fried Kentuckians) the growth of the hole in the ozon layer has rapidly diminished.

Any way the worst that can happen after a new world war is a couple of new countries sprout up and new weopons. I'm planning on winning WW3 for the forces of good (for me). I plan to do this by wrapping myself head to toe in duct tape, creating an effective impervious armor. I could survive tactical nukes fired at me with such armor.
Unfortunately, Duct tape armor is outlawed by the Geneva Convention. Luckily, there will be no one to stop me once my armor is in place. (Insert Evil Laugh here)

Pesonally I think most countries know the outcome of using a nuclear weapon. 95% of them will not just start launching nuclear weapons once a fight breaks out. The only way I can see one being used is from some terrorist group and there are ways to stop nuclear warheads and hopefully would be detected in that type of situation. Even if we were hit... I doubt we would start sending them back unless we were really desperate.
Those type of launches have to be approved by like 50 people and usually they will try to come up with an alternate way of fighting first. I agree right now we are in a economic war right now but I wouldn't clasify it as ww3. Countries have been in economic wars since the beginning.
I dont think we will see ww3 in our lifetime. Once we get some robots to do all our work (which ive read should be within 10 years but will proably take another 10 or more to have one in every home) I think humanity may look more at improving our planet or space travel.
I almost wish we had encountered some other alien race by now. (not hostile) I think if that happened the entire race would pull together and refer to ourselves as humans instead of Americans, Chinese, Europeans, etc. We would have another race to compete against instead of ourselves.

What I'm thinking, is that there are enough peacewhores that prevent war from happening until certain things are achieved through technology. Although this idea is from... anime... its still a good one. A special program/chip/computer thingy has the ability to stop nukes/wmd's from going off. This would completely shift the worlds powers as, probably by then, everything is measured in how many nukes you have, how many things that can launch nukes you have, how big are your nuclear power plants, what would you do if I nuked you, etc.
What if everything ran off nuclear power plants too? If those were taken out, the home front would be gone. There wouldn't be much of a war either.
If it came to a nuclear war, well everything would die. Obviously someone would fire everything, causing the next country to do the same, and if the current US/Russia already have enough to destory the world 4 times over or something like that, well ya, bye bye.
