This game = Hell "DONT buy"

Ok, I bought this game.  Been playing it for about 2 months.

DONT BUY THIS STUPID GAME!  Why? ill tell you.

First, if you like to solo, then your fucked.  YOU HAVE TO GROUP.  No other choice.

You can be looking for hours upon hours for a good group, then when you finally get in one, you are met by 5 other jackasses, who have no idea what they are doing.  So you get killed, then everyone says, oh that sucks well we have to go.

You lose 10% of your xp on every death, which means if you die 2 or 3 times in one night, practially hours upon hours of previous work is 100% gone.

How many characters have I ran into that look 100% identical to me?  at lesat 10 a day.

The games got good sound, decent combat, and the best graphics I have seen on an online game, ill give it that much, but as far as fun goes, the game has none.  It is a frusterating horrid slow level treadmill, that is flooded with level 60+ cocky japs.

Look for good gaming elswhere.  I mean, honestly folks, it is a fucking joke when it takes practically all day to level once, at low levels IE: from 13 - 14 and you hit 14 and go back to 13 multiple times, plus the time it takes to get a group.  Very disapointed with this shit game.

Omg you have to be kiddin me.. post deleted?

    MMORPG.com is a joke

Anyway in a nut shell FFXI sucks. The graphics are good, and sound is good, but have fun looking for a group for 4 hours then end up losing xp, cause your group members are morons.  It is seriously sad when it takes a full day of playing to level from like 13 to 14.  Pathetic.

also, I wish I had a dollar every time I saw some one who looked 100% identical to me.  Oh well, have fun with this hellish leveling treadmill.  I didnt.  If your thinking of buying this game.. My advice to you = pass, this game is a horrid EQ clone.

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAA!!! First time I have ever seen a post deleted... and I loved that it was coming from a guy that thinks it takes a day to go from level 13 to 14 in FFXI. They probably thought your first post was just too ridiculous to display image

I don't even remember levels 13-14 they went by so quick... I think I soloed through those levels in an hour or two tops, and soloing is the SLOWER way to go after 13... Totally ridiculous man. Or let me guess... you must've been a Galka white mage determined to find a group that will let you tank?? lol I don't know man... I've taken less time to find a group with a Thief/Red Mage in the middle of a weekday then you claim...

Translation of advice from this player: Don't buy FFXI if aren't going to take the time to learn how to play it. (How is this different from any other game out of curiousity?)

Yeah, the leveling in this game goes slower then other mmorpgs but not as slow as this player claims... And in other games there's a lot less to do in the lower levels then in FFXI. If you want to burn through levels 1-15 in a few hours, you'll miss out on a lot in FFXI so I'm glad they slow people down a bit. Maybe it'll get people to enjoy the ride a bit before trying to be Mr. uber Dark Knight / Samurai in their first month of playing :) (albeit possible from people I know hehe)

Actually my level 13 thief took a long time to level to 15....like 2-3 days.

Killing mobs that get you 18-25 xp each, when you need thousands of XP to level is a very slow and painful process.

It becomes mind numbingly boring...not to mention, the occasional aggro from a tough mob that can kill you before you can zone.

Actually im at level 14 and have been there for about 2 days because i've died 5 times. It depends on your job too, if your a warrior (like me) chances are you'll die alot. You just have to find the right group then levelling is great.

Yes I'm fully aware that you have to GROUP in this game.

I was in quite a few groups with my Warrior. Grouped in shakhrami maze, tahrongi canyon, was even in an alliance to kill dhalmels once...also grouped in valkurm dunes, then qufim, then batallia, rolanberry.  The most painful grouping was in batallia, because some days you'd get great xp and others it wouldnt' be so good.  What was worse was when you'd get a team going and suddenly the WHM says his linkshell needs his help so he leaves us hanging.

The problem is, my theif can't get teams very well at all.  Not like my warrior could, and even with my warrior it wasn't always easy.

People want very specific jobs for their team, they dont' just take you cause you're standing there for the last hour looking for a team.  Hell noone cares about that....

I'm also real sick of starting my own team and having to negotiate with 5 people to join up....I get people who want to know if I have a whm yet and not to bother him till I have one....and if I get a whm he will sometimes not join if he can find an already nearly full team to join...

so it is a very painful and slow process filling teams.

Tongiht, I'm going to try to avoid playing FFXI...I'm so addicted to this game...I need to stop playnig it...its sad that I play it, even though it pisses me off so much with the group situation.

I hear all these posts and wonder about the game at times but I am use to playing solo and having to fight the wimpiest creatures there is to earn levels. I will group with just about anyone but will disband if it is just getting me killed. I hope things go better for those who keep playing and I can't wait to get my PS2 hard drive so I can play.

  • rathmarathma Member UncommonPosts: 3,786

Actually it's about my 4th day at level 14 and it really pisses me off too. I might just stop playing for a while, i dont even know why i bother anymore. My parties are seriously idiots, nobody heals me even though im the tank, and even though theres warriors they dont provoke it when i have 50 health and they have 250. I just feel like slapping them across the face. I dont know what pisses me off the most... When my group doesn't even ask for a raise, or the fact that WHM's ask 2000 just to raise me.

There i got that out of my system. Forced grouping is just awful i think.

Could someone break this statement down for those of us that haven't played yet.  I'm still debating on picking this up or not, and I'm trying to soak up as many opinions/info as I can.

This game isn't bad actually. Just some days it can be quite frustrating, but all challenging games can be. Sometimes i have alot of fun with it, i will probably keep playing until the newer games are out.

The only set backs i really have with this game is that dieing can be pretty bad, so be careful what party you choose. Also, you have to be a hardcore gamer to get the best of it. It can take up to 45 minutes just to get a group going, and when you die, and lie there forever waiting for a raise..... Lets just say it drains out alot of time in the game. You could be playing for hours and actually lose exp.

Other than that i haven't really encountered any other problems in the game except that the patch for PvP hasn't been out yet.

Personally, I enjoy the game quite a bit. It's true that it's very difficult to solo past around level 15 so you will have to group. If you like to group then this game has a ton of things to offer you.

Its actually pretty good if you know how to get along with a lot of people. The problem is, this game is so popular that it attracts even the worst personalities. Every MMORPG is the same anyway.
You dont want to buy this game if you prefer to play alone.

To those of you that take days to make it from 13-15, I just don't know what you're doing wrong but it was extremely easy for me playing warrior, thief, or black mage. I'm working on white mage and red mage now with no problems up to current levels of 10 each... It took me a couple days to get from 10-15, but 13-15? You just need different tactics. And for me, killing a lot of easy preys was a lot LESS painful then killing a decent match, healing for a minute, killing a decent match, healing for another minute... I rather be killing non-stop... but to each their own.

Actually, I currently lead a linkshell on the Caitsith server image. It's called the "Flames of Retribution". If you're on the Caitsith server and would like an invite, send me a tell (my name is Zohar, go figure).

What amazes me is how many people still buy FFXI regardless of all the "FFXI sucks" and "dont waste your money" posts on the boards.  Yes FFXI is one of the worst, most boring games I have ever played, but if you go and buy it after all the bad player reviews here and on other boards, well, thats just your own stupidity.

I've been playing this game for months now, and from the posts that I've seen about not being able to level it seems everyone is just not getting into good groups. This is probably because most of you are playing with other new players from the recent PS2 NA release. Leveling is not difficult at all IF you get in the right group (granted once you get into the high 40's and above it does become harder to get into a group). FFXI pretty much forces you to group and play with others after level 11-13, and if you're used to playing other hack and slash PVP stuff then this isn't going to be the game for you. When I get bored leveling, raising my crafting skill, or farming gil then I usually go and play the less team oriented hack/slash type games.

For those who really are having problems leveling try asking some of the players who have been playing for a while for advice, or help. Most of the time they'll have lower level subs that they could switch to if they have the time to help level along with you, or try getting into a LS (link shell). If you get into a good one they'll almost always help out with lvling or questions/missions.

Remember, this isn't going to be the game for everyone. I personally like it, but that's me. Maybe some who are turned off of the game may like it once PVP comes, but then again it may turn off those who like the game how it is. Who knows...
