I WANT to play Vanguard live, but I simply do not currently have enough money to upgrade my system specs. I played beta for close to a year I had an enjoyable experience gameplay wise, the community, and the shear depth of the game (Damn close to original EQ in later lvls). The downside to the game is by far the performance.. I have a mid range system the the hitching and fps rate is ridiculous. Once I get a new video card (My bottle neck) should be in a month or so i'll definitly be picking up Vanguard.
I plan on playing it when it's in an acceptable state. If the beta was anything to go by, it needs 6 more months worth of development.
At least. I don't know what people are talking about when they call the game "beautiful"--I just built a new system last month, and the game looked like crap on the 7950 I put in, which was the first disappointment of my lousy First Hour Experience in Vanguard. After that, I spent a while beating the shit out of lizards that...were just regular old lizards, which may be novel if you don't live in Florida, but I do. Oh, and they didn't move while we were "fighting." At all. Finally I just went "This isn't fun" and that was that.
I'll check out the release later this year, maybe, if I hear it's gotten any better.
Going to keep an eye on it over the first month its released. Will do what some have said, wait a month untill its been polished and refined a bit more
It is not beautiful It just uses Speed Tree tm Thanks to company that invented it, now every game looks beautiful.
Except for that, armor design is not bad. Rest is laughable
I doubt that all MMOs use their own 3d engine. They probably licence another engine. So by your logic, no MMO is beautifull unless they design their own engine. VSOH uses modified unreal engine.
NOPE.I have 2 issues with the game, performance is just horrible and the game i was surprised to see is an exact copy/ripoff of eq2.I really don't feel like playing eq2 all over again under a different name.I can achieve 150 frames per second on all the unreal series ,and even 60+ on the large outdoor maps,This 7 yr old engine should not be hogging resources the way it does, redlining down to 5 frames per second with any movement pfft, and that's with everything turned right down.I can turn everything right up in unreal series games,so SIGIL just doesn't know how to work with this game engine whatsoever.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I was in beta since the beginning of Beta 3 and will honestly say that if i were asked the same question then, the answer would have been a resounding NO.By the end of beta 4 the game had made leaps and bounds of progress and since has convinced me Sigil has craftet an excellent mmorpg that really appeals to me.
While this is great for me, i will honestly say Vanguard isn't for everyone. If you are a very casual player and/or prefer soloing, the Vanguard isn't for you, PERIOD, end of discussion.Sigil isn't pretending to try and please all of the people all of the time and isn't going to try. They have said that from the very beginning. If the new WoW exp is casual/solo friendly, then i strongly reccommend that for those who have or prefer that sort of playstyle. If you buy Vanguard, you will only become frustrated and mad at yourself for wastign your money. If on the other hand, you love exploring VAST new lands and enjoy grouping(2-6 people)80% of the time, then Vanguard WILL be a game you are going to love.Just like the good old days, there's no instancing,CR, and lots of exploring and traveling to new lands.Vanguard has to be the best grouping based mmo i've played since EQ1.Questing in a group of anywhere from 2-6 people is a ton of fun and rewarding.
Lastly, Vanguard is VERY configurable and despite what some people with 3 year old machines say, it can run very well on a moderately powered pc (p4 3.0 with 1 gig of ram) with a halfway decent graphics card(NVidia 6600GT/7600GS+ 256 ram/Radeon 1600+ 256 ram)should be able to run the game very well.People with older machines just have to remember they may have to go into settings and adjust some things befoe they'll get the performance they want. It's not going to magicly happen just by setting the graphics on "balanced".People also have to remember that Vanguard is a brand new mmorpg and it's going to be harder on systems that WoW is.The days of designing games that will run just as well on 3 year old machines as it does on 6 month old machines is over.Especially now with Vista about to hit.
The few bugs around that weren't squelched in the the blistering rate of patches over the end of beta really aren't going to dissuade me from playing, infact they make me more confidant than other companies who take forever to fix or add anything (nearly a year for battlegrounds cough cough).
I think the engine is pretty impressie actually, drawing for kilometers is exponentially vastly more amounts of data, yet it's handled and the game runs playably on my older rig even for my big lcd widescreen monitor.
Vast world to explore, depth to group mechanics, great crafting and addictive diplomacy - it looks good to this vet, but I was always more concerned with gameplay & dynamics than hype & fluff.
I'll try it, i don't care if it needs to be optimized still or if it still has bugs up the ass, i'm still going to try it.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You? if I were to kill a titan tomorrow and no CCP employees showed up to say grats I would petition it. Waiting for: the next MMO that lets me make this macro if hp < 30 then CastSpell("heal") SpellTargetUnit("player") else CastSpell("smite") end
As I've stated in several similar threads, I do not plan to play this at release. I was planning on it until I found out from open beta testers that my Geforce 7300 LE wouldn't be good enough for it. I just bought my rig, so I really don't want to drop another $300 for another video card. So I plan to upgrade my computer when the prices drop on hardware and then play Vanguard. In the meantime I am playing The Burning Crusade on WoW, which I might add is a lot of fun. This is coming from someone who hated WoW and couldn't stand the game long enough to play it for more than a few days. As for what I like about Vanguard; I like the selection of races and classes, the community that I seen gravitating towards it, diplomacy, ships, player housing, and the realism in the artwork is nice too.

Well, I plan on playing. As do a number of my friends. Its really kind of funny if you think about it.
There are 7 of us all over the age of 30, all but one have kids, all but one started playing mmo's with UO and EQ. 5 of us were Beta testers. I have the weakest machine of the whole group, and I had nearly totally written off this one about half way through beta 5. The second to last patch changed everything from my point of view.
I just picked up the Limited Edition, Ive got my beta client up to date though so dont need to re-install.
Really, the depth of this game is ... unique right now in MMOs. I do believe that the game could use a few more months in development, but I understand they had to push it out for fiscal reasons. Anyone in any IT sector job will probably be familiar with that, especially if you deal with operations, test, or development (when has any product gone live when it was "ready" from your point of view)?
Having said that, I can guess that the game will be better in 6 months than it will be tomorrow, so waiting, especially if your enjoying TBC right now is probably not too bad an idea. Me, Im looking for a bit more depth, Vanguard has that in spades.
Those that play, see you in Telon, those that dont, enjoy whatever else your doing.
Tried, crashed out of game 1 week before release. It's definately being released too soon. What are the ramifications of that? Don't know... could be serious... or could not be because they patch it up in a month... Definately not ready for prime time, but it looked good.
Couldn't vote on your poll because the option I would have chosen was not listed:
- played it, thought it fair, not gonna buy it, but will keep an eye on it, see if they get it fixed...
As a few posts above the last have stated , Vanguard could have used another month or so in the oven if for no other reason than to smooth over some of the mechanics and to finish off the work on a few classes, but the game is definitely not "shoddy".The ammount of progres made in the last month and 1/2 of beta was staggering.
Imo Vanguard should be one of the smoothest launches of an mmorpg ever.
I was in beta three and played some off and on, mostly off, up to the final day. Something about this game screams desperation. Can't put my finger on it but it just was not very professional looking for the most part . It was improving though so one day it might be a good game, never say never so I will look at it when the free trial email comes.

The game world seems to have been completed in tiny blocks each by different artists/designers. You can walk a relatively short distance and notice the textures for a wall or surface change on a sixpence, you can even see the fuzzy line where they connect together heh. Didn't get to try the latest big patches, will have to try retail in a fortnight (to avoid the server launch crashes lol) and hope it doesn't kick me in the nads.
oh that glyph event killed the game for me.... saw almost everything, the "secrecy" was spoiled, i won't play this game.
Its griffon lol, if you in fact even rode one
oh sorry griffon. YES, i did ride it... nothing special. first I was wowed, but later after going to high level zones, where you know that you have to grind your way to get there I felt this game was boring and nothing new.

I played Vanguard up to the end of open beta.
It seemed shoddy, like Sigil/Sony just wanted to stop spending money on the game and get it out the door.
Imo Vanguard should be one of the smoothest launches of an mmorpg ever.
i played the last 2 weeks in beta and tried around 10 classes up to level 8-10.
there are still some flaws, but the game is good and there arent many major bugs around.
its true, 1 month more would have done good to the game, but it looks like a smooth launch today.
And im sure there were many starts in the last 2 years that were worse.
and i will definetely play it in europe.. it offers much more content than wow and has some nice daoc/eq features.
crafting and diplomacy is cool and crafting offers a lot more deepth, compared to other games like wow and daoc
and its finally not a kiddie game..
I miss DAoC

I play SWG, why would I want to play Vanguard?
To me, Vanguard seems like the Fantasy version of SWG...
fyi: (if u plan to buy new hardware )
i play it ion C2D E6700
2 gig ram
geforce 8800gtx
with 1680x1050 22" tft
and it runs fully smooth "all maxed out graphical settings"
the viewing distance is great, i hate those artifical fog games, decreasing clipping panes.

I doubt I have enough disk space to even hold it, let alone run it (apparently even at low detail settings).
