I have never gotten a character to max level in any mmo, but I have probably started 20 characters in each game.
At low levels, I feel that I am accomplishing something. As ltaer levels require more exp, the game slows down and I start to 'feel' the repetition more.
I enjoy the journey, the longer it takes to raise skills/levels, the harder it is to achieve something, the more fun it is. When I reach max skill or max level, most MMOGs are no longer fun, because the developers have designed a game which offers nothing past the journey.
Raiding sucks and makes me quit. I don't want to be dependent on others to achieve something. Any MMOG that forces grouping as an essential part of the gameplay mechanics is a failure. Grouping is something that should be desired and chosen for the joy factor of engaging with others, not because you have to since the mechanics of the game were designed to limit achievement of those who don't.
Lets see.... the biggest reason is that I'm always looking for the "perfect" MMO....since none of them are even close (nor probably ever will be) I decide to try a new one ever so often.
But usually what brings me to this state is that after leveling my characters up to 50, (or whatever the top level is) game companies either:
1) Nerf my character, taking away some key aspect that was my reason for leveling him up. (a ala nerfs to bugbear mages in Lineage One)
2) Change the entire flavor of the game, by trying to cater to all gamers...and not remaining true to the target market (a la DAOC/TOA expansion)
3) I can't get to the end game, because the grind is too long and boring (a la Lineage 20
4) The end game consists of long, repetitive raids that suck up 4 hours a day...for many days of the week. (a la WOW)
5) There is no end game at all, once you get to the top...you're pretty much done, which makes you re-roll again...just to keep busy...(a la..well...truthfully, almost all games fall into this category.... I'm still waiting for a viable end-game to come out)

for me... bad user interface (im picky), bad community (like what swg has become), if the game has horrible graphics. I will tell you what has kept me in a game... grinding: you play with friends, accomplish levels, and it can be very fun if there is nice big groups to do stuff with, for example, in swg (pre-nge) i had countless hours of fun grinding because most of the time we were talking, laughing, messing around. i remember once when we were hunting in swg, a few people got stuck in a vehicle (the one that carried alot of people, before mustafar) they did /unstick (or something like that) and the car just teleported... good times.. good times..

Well theres several reasons I am not currently playing any MMOs and Ive listed a few with a short blurb under each but in all honesty it just scratches the surface, but its my 2 cents worth just the same...
Poor customer support
MMOs have been around for years now so the fact that most of the companies out there still continue to come up short in this department is at best inexcuseable. When legitimate issues arise in game they should be met head on with a sympathetic and resourceful team.
Player bases
How many times over the years have you been in game and would have been enjoying yourself to some degree if not for the people around you? I would love to see communities police themselves much the same way that they apparently do in Ryzom. Many people it seems just dont know how to behave themselves properly when in game. Mindless childish spamming and griefing shouldnt be tolerated and I would love to see such things taper out if not go away altogether.
Promised vs delivered
I can attest to having been a member of several promising communities only to be severely let down at or before release due to the action or inactions of those responsible for putting the game out. If you say a patch will be out tomorrow make it so. Problems arise and people underestand that but I have left too many games because of they said one thing and did another time and again. I have even left certain publishing companies and will not be involved with them again due to similar situations
Half-baked released products
How many games of obvious potential have you seen over time that could be great games but for the fact that release is pushed too soon and paying customers are forced to pay for this for up to a year following release? It makes me wonder if anyone putting the games out these days even bother to play the games they promote and if so these people should be fired at best. I am just sick of seeing halfassed games being sold as completed products only to find out after purchase that nothing could be closer to the truth.
Jack of all trades, master of none
Ryzom has community maturity, EVE has single shard and pvp and a player based market DAOC has housing and pvp. WOW has decent pve. Just naming a few examples there but wouldnt it be something to find a game on the market that could include balanced races/classes/skills/market/trade/inventiveness/pvp/pve/gfx/sound/immersion/rp/individuality/customization of character/community/cust suppt/mods&ui. A working balanced mix between grind/group/solo/quest/exploration/crafting
repetetiveness
if you want to level kill this beast 1000 times change beast rinse repeat. If you want to craft make this item 50 times then make new item 50 times rinse repeat. Level ranges where you have to solo/group or not advance. Crafting being a vacuum for your in game currency. Buy 100 potions/food repair items go grind repeat. Blah its sickening. Can it really be that hard to make a game that stays interesting?
Endgame
Get level capped get all the best gear and then endless instanced pvp? come on now. some of the people out there seem to be picking up on this one by trying to avoid the norm of "levels" which is nice but theres a long way to go. The whole concept of endgame irritates me tho people rushing like mad to lvl cap missing out on everything a game could potentially have to offer along the way.
pve vs pvp
Why is it that games if at all only seem to be able to get one of them incorporated into their games but not both?
cash cows
We have all seen these and know them for what they are by now. Put out a game asap hope to get as much money as possible for a year or two and cash in on it without putting anything back into the game. thats one example another that bugs me is the new trend of not charging monthly fees but allowing people to buy items in game with real money.
1.Hacker/Botting, E.x Lineage II , i hate hackers and botters that make the game so retarted it's not even funny
2.Players, Some games, have mature communitys, some..well, have kids/retards for players..ticks me off.
3.Endless Grind!!!!-E.x Lineage II, I hate grind with a passion, i cannot stand it, i have a limit, and when that limit is reached it all goes downhill from there.

1. Cheating/hacking running rampant.
2. Boredom. Running out of things to do, not finding it fun anymore, etc.
3. Bad graphics (but usually if it's really bad I don't even try it)
4. Bad community.
