SOE's stench is all over this game

I seem to recall hundreds of posts stating not to worry, SOE was only producing the game. Well, its obvious with the early release, bugs, terrible customer support, and pricing that SOE is heavily involved.

SOE sure has a way of repeating their mistakes over and over.  I recall being a beta tester in SWG. The game was definitely nowhere near ready for release. Nor was there any talk of release on the beta forums. Beta was assumed going to last many more months. Suddenly out of nowhere SOE announced the game was going gold in two weeks.

Sound familiar ?

Vnaguard devs were talking about the moving on to the next stage in beta. Testers were posting the game was still months away from being ready. Companies like EB Games had estimated release dates for May. And suddenly once again a game with the ugly name of SOE on announces its going gold. I know dozens of friends in other MMO's that still dont know Vanguard was even released. They havent followed the game that closely as they wrongly assumed it was 6 months away from launching.

Vanguard definitely needed more development time. If you enjoy working games with few issues, then stay away from this clunker.

I played the game for 3 days, thats all I could stand. There were major exploits. One friend of mine couldnt explain how he got to level 18 by only killing 50 mobs but he did. The lag is so bad the game is unplayable. And Im not talking about lagging out because there are 20 people around. I didnt see more than 4 people together in one place. Anytime some npc guards walked near me, I lagged out. And dont blame my system...AMD FX2, 4 gigs ram, dual 7800 512mb cards in sli (thats 1g total video ram), and 30mbps cable internet connection.

For those with nvidia cards, enjoy many errors. Each time I entered any body of water my screen went black. Sometimes typing /flush fixed it. Other times I had to reboot.

I could go on and on about many other issues but who has the time. And it seems SOE knew this game wouldnt be that big of a hit when it launched...i saw 6 servers to choose from roughly, not a lot of confidence there eh SOE. To put that number into perspective, Matrix has 3 servers and its one of the lousiest mmo's of all time.

And finally, SOE has in place its world-famous flogging pay system. Want extra toons, give us more money. want access to stats of your toon, give us more money. How about some other useless feature, only 99 cents more. It was like signing up for EQ2 all over again where every little thing had a surcharge for it. SOE charges premium fees for features everyone else gives away for free.

The only reason I even tried this game was a friend of mine bought the game, tried it for one day and gave it to me. Due yourself a favor, dont waste any money on thi game. Like all SOE products, there is some potential there but it will never be realized.

It's not SOE's fault : It's Sigils fault for trying to do tooo much and everything coming out like crap.

SOE gave them another year + of development time which is much more than microsoft were giving + Microsoft wanted it to be Vista only and on the 360.

What a load of crap. I play with 1.5 gigs ram on a 2 year old system and its usually fine on balanced settings. There was one place near Three Rivers I had to turn it to 'performance settings'....but hey I only have a 128 meg geforce 6800, so thats not a big deal.

I also have  never seen a grapical glitch on my Nvidia card.

But don't confuse HIS portait of the game as FACTS when most people who play the game ( like myself) have different opinions and think thats it is extremely enjoyable. Just cause some guy says somethign don't make it a fact. Everyone is entitled to opinions but dammit leave it just that, opinions. Don't mix facts with thoughts of your own experience, especially if no one aske dthem.

Ignore the OP. Just look at his post history to see the truth and VG isn't the only game he hates on.

I really love being able to view peoples post history it can really tell you about a person and their view.

I was gonna buy this game, but fuck it, it isn't worth it. I have been in beta for the last couple of weeks and I have seen countless of bugs and other features that SOE and Sigil implemented sucks. Yeah, thank god I didn't fork out $99.99 for this game, the only thing I can see SOE and Sigil is their eyes gouging out with a big dollar signs in front of their eyes. The developers need to have more control and power on this game and determine the proper release date. Fuck SOE, fuck CEO who runs this company who has no idea what "PC Games" means. It's all about moola, fuck em. Don't buy any games from SOE and deprive their financial income by boycotting their games. I seriously detest CEO, all CEO in this country are CORRUPTED! CEO makes like 5-15 million in a year!!! Jesus.. thats so fucked up.

I am so sick of hearing about SWG.  Yes, they screwed the game up.  Yes they screwed over their players.  No it wasn't the end of the world.  Quit living in the past already.  Between SWG and all the WoW hate, this place can sound like a broken record some days.
  • Gangster-ManGangster-Man Member Posts: 143

rofl yeha swg is like the holocaust or something. Isnt anyone pissed at Blizzard the wya they made wow? Warcraft 1&2 were sooooo fun then they made wc3. with some horrible graphics, then wow, with equally as bad. Doesn't anyone hate blizzard for fuggin up Warcraft?

My point here is this, people will always think of somethign someone did as the worst, un-fixable pos ever. But if you do not look past something, you might be missing out on so much that just might make you a very happy gamer.

Oh and the guy from beta, the game has changed, a lot. So since you havn't really played after launch, you have NO OPINION from the game from here on then. Just beta opinions.

  • AlbytapsAlbytaps Member Posts: 208

Yea well i'm sick of WoW so i decided to give this game a shot.  The game does seem unfinished, and it's expected with SOE backing it up.  My computer needs a new graphics card as i found out when trying to play Vanguard.  But when I tried it on a new pc, WOW!  this game is the SHIZ!  this is the game I've been waiting for.  Now all i have to do is upgrade my graphics card and I'll be all set.  I can't wait to get home and play some more!  I now know why there are so many WoW trolls on Vanguard forums, because this game (even with all the bugs) makes WoW look like worthless 1985 garbage.

Beta ended Jan 23rd.....so saying you've been in beta the last cpl weeks is total BS. The game is 49.99 CE is 99.99 allthough I got mine for 89.99.  So what your saying is no game company wants to make money? Only SOE? I am glad you aren't getting VG.

I beta tested VG and the game has improved alot since beta. There are bugs. I've seen 2 since release that have effected me personally. I agree the CEO's make to much money as do professional sports players, Movie stars, music stars, Talk show hosts (oprah and the like) and many others.

Although I share your distain for SOE, I must strongly disagree with you.

Yes, SOE has had a negative influance on the game when it comes to Pricing & Billing. However, the game itself is run by Sigil.

As a long-time Beta tester for VSoH I can confirm many of the things you have said, but there are some points I strongly disagree with. First, the customer service. Although there are real concerns I & many have regarding the CE eddition & billing, the in-game support is amazing. Sigil has the best GM Team I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They are dedicated, and based at Sigil's HQ allowing thier Daily (yes, daily) meetings with the Dev Team.

The Dev's are also EXTREAMLY talented and responsive. They will opennly discuss issues, as well as make fun at themselves for thier errors. They take GREAT care in responding to & listening to player issues/concerns/comments. I myself have regular post & PM discussions with various Sigil folks.

Regarding the game, it's true it has been released much too early, and all shoulf know that before buying. That said, I am more then willing to pay to play this game  knowing it is a continuing work-in-progress and LOADS of fun as is.

If you would like to give the game another try, I would be happy to play with you a bit and show what I love about this game. As a fellow SWG Refugee, I have found a new home with VSoH. It is a deep, and extreamly complicated game, with more complexity then SWG EVER had. It is far from perfect, but addictingly fun none the less.

My only hope is that the upcoming Sci-Fi games aare SO good they steal me away from VSoH.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

well first of all for havingg 4 gigs of RAM PROVES your just a flat out moron ^_^  over 2 gigs of RAM does nothing for your system except make it lag. secondly the game is actually fun. and hardly laggy for me on balanced and my video card blows big time.

but i respect your right to an opinion. and SOE IS! only producing it. sorry buddy its not obvious. and SOE is nothing more then a producer =) nice try

I dont hate a company because they arent good or evil, they are just there to make money, not eat your babies. When a company proves the make the same mistakes over and over again, have the same incompetent executives that were in place when the same mistakes were made over and over again, its a good reason not to give them your money.

So people may come off as being way too personal or angry towards a company. A lot have valid reasons for not enjoying the work SOE has done. And now Sigil, is a new company and getting help from a company like SOE with a bad rep, could also tarnish your rep, its risky. Not only that but the people at Sigil, were former SOE employees, it seems they have taken their philosophies with them,

And yes EQ was a good game, when it was a Verant game, until sony decided to buy them out and make EQ an exclusive SOE title, the game started going downhill after that. To me it was much more of a slower decline then their other games such as SWG. EQ was good at the beginning, which made it have a sustainable fan base much longer.

This proves that having a game thats decent at launch when it comes to performance is a big deal to a lot of people. Make a good game at the beginning rather then promises later, and they will be rewarded with the fan base they deserve, just like EQ had.

Don't blame SoE for the problems Sigil created.

Just accept that VG is a crappy game and stop trying to blame "the big bad Sony". I'd rather the game had died, I dunno what SoE saw in the game to bail them out of the mess they had created with Microsoft.

Holy Crap, If you all don't like something, Don't buy it.  do you all know how SoE gets to do the same stupid stuff over and over?  Cuase People pay them to.  Don't like it?  Don't buy it /  play it, but get out of the way of the others who don't give a shit.

Nah, you're the troll, which anyone who has seen the drivel you post will attest to. The O.P. is someone who hates SOE because they stole his star wars fantasy from him. If you think Vanguard is a trainwreck I feel sorry for you. It's number one on this site right now in case you haven't noticed. Get an education.

This pricing is fairly standard among all games.  I fail to see how V:SOH is much different there?
Example:  Phantasy Star Universe pricing is $9.99, but also has about 1/1,000th of the size and depth as this game (maybe even less than that!)  Most other games are very small compared to this as well, but many charge just the same; possibly $2-3 less, at best.

Vanguard definitely needed more development time. If you enjoy working games with few issues, then stay away from this clunker.

I'll agree it could have more development time, what game couldn't?  Hell, any MMO game released could have probably used a bit more development time.

Game fees are not always just for services rendered, but also money is put towards enhancement, and not just bug fixing either!

I played the game for 3 days, thats all I could stand
Should have stopped reading right here.

There were major exploits. One friend of mine couldnt explain how he got to level 18 by only killing 50 mobs but he did.

There was an XP rebalance/reduction on certain things from beta, might have been what he was experiencing?  There will be issues, hopefully people are helpful and report them instead of just complaining.
It seem that often people forget the definition of the word "Tester" in "Beta Tester."
The lag is so bad the game is unplayable. And Im not talking about lagging out because there are 20 people around.

You are absolutely right, we can't play the game at all, we just stare at the character creation screen all day because it has been so unplayable.

You've gotten better at Staring! (129)

I didnt see more than 4 people together in one place. Anytime some npc guards walked near me, I lagged out.

Sounds like you might have some internet connection problems?  I've never been disconnected like that and tested this game for a few months (and release.)  768K business SDSL service at home here, instead of the cheap ADSL or Local Cable.

I have been removed from the server due to spurious server-side crashes before, but those were relatively infrequent compared to other games I have tested in the past.  (And I won't mention the big one.)

If I pull the cable out of my NIC I can replicate that behavior though.

And dont blame my system...AMD FX2, 4 gigs ram, dual 7800 512mb cards in sli (thats 1g total video ram), and 30mbps cable internet connection.

I won't blame the system, but you don't have 1GB of video RAM, but 512MB.  SLI does not work that way.
Try AFR or AFR2 instead of SFR rendering.  The game doesn't officially support SLI yet anyway, so SFR would be more likely to have more problems based on the way it operates.

For those with nvidia cards, enjoy many errors. Each time I entered any body of water my screen went black. Sometimes typing /flush fixed it. Other times I had to reboot.

7800GT SLI here as well (also with 4GB RAM.)  I haven't had graphics problems at all.  Drivers maybe?  I'm running the latest ones here.  The game runs the same with SLI on and off here, but nice try at making presumptuous blanket statements regarding hardware faults/incompatibilities.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suspect some bad shader cache files, and would recommend that the /bin/cache/ directory be emptied since "/flush" does not clear that.  Maybe changing certain game settings which may invalidate those cached shader files could possibly cause that behavior.  If that is the case, then "/bug" it and they could rework the shader caching to fix that when certain options are modified.

I could go on and on about many other issues but who has the time.

Obviously you don't...Or do you?  Seeing as that you wasted your time to write all of this.

And it seem SOE knew this game wouldnt be that big of a hit when it launched...i saw 6 servers to choose from roughly, not a lot of confidence there eh SOE. To put that number into perspective, Matrix has 3 servers and its one of the lousiest mmo's of all time.
Ah good point!  I'm sure they were expecting failure, that is a great business model to strive by!
Did you know that Eve Online has only one server?  Over 30,000+ people log into it simultaneously every day at times, it is fairly popular, though it is not my cup of a tea I'm afraid.  I am sure they command a healthy subscriber base.

Saga of Ryzom only had two servers, one for English speakers and one for European languages.  It had at least 150,000 subscribers I believe.
Do you even have the slightest clue how huge the land mass is on this game though?  A landmass this size could fit at least 10,000 simultaneous players comfortably.

I've yet to really see anything like the Station Access and Station Players features with other games.  Station Access is a real rip-off isn't it, saving over 70-80% on all of the combined game subscriptions?  You save a few bucks if you just have EQ2 and V:SOH alone, not to mention anything else.

I recall only being charged for the base subscription price when I signed up for V:SOH though.  Maybe I missed "all those little surcharges" going through the process.

Saying something is "useless" is purely opinion or speculation.  Your views and opinions (and mine as well, don't get me wrong) do not always represent the majority.  Alone, they are useless toward the argument without stating exactly why.

The only reason I even tried this game was a friend of mine bought the game, tried it for one day and gave it to me. Due yourself a favor, dont waste any money on thi game. Like all SOE products, there is some potential there but it will never be realized.

Because all games covered by SOE have always resulted in total failure, right?  Seems like you are just too biased towards Sony and just blathering really.

Oh, here is a tip on the way out...  Don't be a lawyer!

False rumor. So also is the one where they wanted us to make it Xbox 360.

This pricing is fairly standard among all games.  I fail to see how V:SOH is much different there?
Example:  Phantasy Star Universe pricing is $9.99, but also has about 1/1,000th of the size and depth as this game (maybe even more!)  Most other games are very small compared to this as well, but many charge just the same; possibly $2-3 less, at best.

    Sooooo pwned!

I was playing in Beta and was concerned that the game would be in terrible shape at launch. I started during headstart and since....I crashed one time only on day 1 of the three day head start. I have not crashed one time since and have logged in at least daily to play. I run into some clunky graphics issues but nothing earth shattering or bad enough to make me go away. I have experienced next to no real lag to speak of and am getting around 35-30 fps even when it appears crowded in my area.

I am playing on high because I have a good system and overall, I am greatly enjoying the game. It is not in as good a shape as it could have been but improvements have been huge since the end of beta.

What has not worked? Well, some quests seem buggy but I have been able to complete them all so far. It looks like they have tightened up XP rewards and made Diplomacy and crafting harder but not to a point I hate it. They need to add more diversity to character parts such as hair, etc but I understand that is in the works. Since you can alter your appearance after creation this is OK with me.

Basically, I have not really experienced anything to indicate that SEO has its "stench" all over it or that would demonstrate a train wreck in progress.

This has been my experience so far.

Proves, you got a fetish for that word I think.  See you using it a lot.

This morning, on my way to work, I saw a purple rabit smoking a crack pipe.  This proves that crack addicted purple rabits exist.

Games fine, could be your SLI or excessive ram giving you trouble.  Like most people are saying, I run on a rather average card, ATI x1300 and it does fine on balanced, looks great even.

Well if you played in the open beta then you probably realized that when it launched, things that got fixed became broken again. hmm, maybe a recent patched broke everything? no. They just didnt use the latest server build. If you payed attention to the open beta patch notes and the launch patches over the last few days (to 2-2-07) you'd notice they same exact things were getting patched the same way. most obvious of these is the auto roll system. it looked plain with only white text and wouldnt work properly. on 2-2-07 they fixed it with different names for the roll threshold. it looked just they way it had been in open beta. Coincidence? no, they just decided to recycle the patches of open beta while they collect the money from the box sales. thats just how SOE is, they do it with every game.

the fact Sigil claimed SOE wouldnt have any influence on the game and was just there to publish it and run the servers was a blatant lie to every one. the most easiest thing to see harmful influence of SOE is mainly with the billing plan. SOE Station access was made for SOE only games because the $24/m would have to be split with partners if they allowed it (some deal making must went into that or just the fact SOE has more control over it then one would of been let on to think). look at the terms. SOE incorperated the strict toons per account as they did with EQ2. the whole billing system came from a copy of EQ2 (a bad game to copy anything from imo)

there is just so much to point out and not enough things to look forward to. even the damn pvp spell damage and affects was nerfed with a quick fix with no testing to see how it would affect other classes. 50% nerf saying it was a bug that spell damage and debuff abilities (snare, root, stun, ability leech, timers, effect % etc) would go to the numbers the spell info said it would ("fixed a bug that would cause inflated spell damage in pvp.").

I agree when people say Fuck SOE and Fuck the games that are published by them
