The Question I asked myself is: In a game like EvE where content is truly EPIC with galactic domination, years of effort at stake in war and extremely difficult to obtain BPO's, should they? WoW and other games answer is simply yes. DEVS/GMS being corrupt does not really affect their customers. Games like WoW have very little at stake. However, in EVE, years of effort could be at stake. Time is invested into Outposts which could fall with simple dev corruption and not to mention the Severe Advantages that could be gained with corruptoin. With so much at stake, the answer is no. Since dev Corruption is bound to happen. WoW/Diablo 2 have had corrupt Devs... many other games have had corrupt GMS. It's GOING to happen, they should take steps to prevent it. Prohibiting them from playing with customer alliances is one way, make them all part of the ISD.
I agree with this, because of the nature of EVE. One server. Very competitve. All kinds of temptation to tip the scale one way or the other. Paying customers should not be competing with developers in a game like EVE.
I gotta say no if things like this happends I been reading and been some talks about this before + unfair lottery in eve to towards blueprints and stuff.. and been DEv/and GMs involved in that too CCP need to learn some basic's to stop this bs
Devs/GMs should be allowed to play the game as long as they do not have unrestricted access to tools where they can create items or affect players in the game. They should also not be allowed to assume leadership roles in an alliance or even a major corp for that matter.
In addition, anyone crafting events in the game should not be allowed to play at all. Even the knowledge of an upcoming event if too dangerous for *any* player to have.
Anybody who has undue influence over what happens in the game shoud not have a stake in that game that would tempt them to tip the scales in their own favor unfairly. I can appreciate that the makers of this franchise enjoy their own product and I think if more devs did they would understand their playerbase better however getting involved in the game to a point where you might use your authority for unfair gain is unacceptable period.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
you don't have to be part of a major faction/alliance/guild/etc in order to experience all the game content. dev activities ingame SHOULD be monitored, like as in, how the thought police would monitor folks.
why?
if a dev is playing a game, they should be beyond reproach, absolutely, positively, no chance in hell of ever even thinking about cheating. ccp has rules that state cheating by devs is something you're terminated for, no questions asked. unless you're a ccp dev, then it's ok, until too many people rat you out. then you just change your toon's name and look and keep on playing, while telling everyone your toon was deleted. i'm not sure if ccp's rules specify that their rules apply to devs/employees who actually work at/for ccp, or if it's just some fictional devs/employees at some fictitional company...
is that what happened? 9 months of cheating and covering up, we only know of a tiny amount of the cheating. think long and hard of the implications... one single dev cheated... ONLY the stuff that was uncovered was admitted to... yet he cheated for about a year (that is known of)....
that is such utter and complete bull hockey.
i guess we'll never know if that toon was deleted or not, until the next person uncovers some nontinfoil hat 'truths'...
but it's nice to know that the cheating corps and alliances have not been punished. that the cheating dev still has a job, and he's the ONLY one that was involved (cuz he surely wouldn't lie), and the BEST part... the person that exposed the cheating douches --- all his accounts are banned~!!!
bravo ccp, bravo...
wow might suck, but i haven't heard anything of folks at wow pulling this garbage. or any other company... matter of fact, ultima online terminated a number of folks, back in the day, for doing bad things like this.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
The problem I have with Devs in a major alliance, they know all the shortcuts. Nothing like BOB having all the inside info. No matter what the protestations at CCP, you know info was passed on to BOB besides just BPOs.
Bringing up that dreaded subject T2 BPOs, CCP has known forever since there has been many posts on their forums about it that a really simple and solid solution to the lottery mess they created, was to make all the T2 BPOs into BPCs. Now we know why they have continued to ignore such an obvious solution. The devs don't want to lose their precious T2 BPOs in game.
Anyone being a CCP fanboy needs to have their head examined, their true colors are showing.
I voted no, however if a corrupt DEV wants to give some friends in an alliance the edge in a war his char doesn't need to be a member for him to cheat. So we either way we end up having to trust the DEV and hope they don't abuse their position, it's a pity that some people are wankers but a tragedy that CCP lets them get away with it (BTW what exactly did his "reprimand" consist of?).
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
The corruption of GM's in EVE is not a new issue. The fact that CCP knew for a prolonged period of time about the issue and failed to address it in an appropriate manner tells everyone everything they need to know about the ability of CCP to police their own staff playing the game. This is NOT the first time accusations have been made, this is just the first time anyone has produced so much proof that CCP cannot bury the issue, they can however ban the person responsible for the release of the information using grounds that should have got members of the BoB banned as well, but they have not been, yet another one sided decision.
The simple fact is the Dev's do (and always have) used their knowledge of the game and their DM powers to skew the game in favor of their alliance, they have actively used their Dev accounts to perform acts related to supporting their alliances at the cost and expense of the customer base. Reports about such abuses generally get a warning mail from CCP threatening action if the information is made public, thats is a FACT.
