Best graphics: EQ2 or Vanguard?

I have seen that EQ2 and Vanguard both have very similar graphics engines and capabilities, having played them both.  I wanted to start a SERIOUS discussion of which game you all think has superior graphics in camparison to one-another?

 

Please discuss in detail.

    i think world of warcraft looks better than both games.

    Imo None of them deserve the best graphics award, but I think its a tie. the animations and effects in EQ2 are clearly better, but the world (except for the water) and characters look better in Vanguard.

    Vanguard looks the best, and will only look better once they add the U3 features.

    Please keep the comments to just EQ2 and Vanguard....not other games like World of Warcraft.  Also, the purpose of this thread is to determine the best overall graphics between just these 2 games and not necessarily the best graphics overall of ANY game or ANY MMORPG for that matter.

    I've played both. Vanguard blows everything away with it's environment.



    Vanguard's character models are more mixed. Some are better, some are worse

    Personally I like them all better than EQ2, because something about the EQ2 character models always bugged me. I never liked them.



    World of Warcraft isn't even the same league as these two with regards to graphics. Any moron who thinks otherwise is using an ancient computer that can't run EQ or Vanguard on anything but the lowest settings, in which case WoW would look better.

    I like VG better.

    Something about the character models and thier animation in EQ2 never really jived with me.

    definitely EQ2

    characters not plastic looking and whole lot more options when creating them

    wonderful spell and melee animations

    great textures and really beautiful cloth and armor movements

    WoW has a stronger THEME than either EQ2 or VG.



    I run a proper PC (Athlon64 X2 4400+, 7950GT) and if you are going by polygon counts, WoW loses. However, in terms of depth, quality and that certain everything-just-fits, WoW AND EQ2 just destroy VG. VG is an endless world of beautiful nothingness ...



    Polygon count =/= Good graphics.



    Keep using the word "moron" though ... it makes you look smart.

    the charecter designer from vanguard is the same as the guy from everquest2

    vanguard is oviously better graphic all in all. astonishing landscape enviorment however.... the charecter modeling in my opinion are weak. wow charecters are better but my favorite charecter designs are from an asian-made mmo

    I played WoW also and it looked like a cartoon straight out of Looney Toons.  No idea where people think it is the greatest graphics.  It has style but I prefer a bit of realism.

    Vanguard, may have its faults but it is by far the most graphically spectacular.



    EQ2 couldnt even get the armour right.

    They have powerful graphics engines.  EQ2 uses its own engine and Vanguard a modified Unreal 2 engine.  However, they don't make good use of the power.  It took EQ2 until Echoes of Faedwar until they started to actually make descent models and textures.  Most of Vanguard looks bleh, it lacks art direction and even technical points to designing.

    What they do win on is excessive waste, such as 800 polies in the roof of a shed, or a 4096 texture map on a gold coin.

    However, they use all this stuff but not well. Most polies don't even define any sort of detail and are just flat or part of an uneeded tesselation.  The 4096 texture maps lack the detail that games pull off with a 256 map.  The models look like they were just stuck on the ground with no thought on how they should stick in the ground, the cliffs are rounded off, and the models use a mis-match of unmatching textures.  The normal maps also were lazily done.  The maps on some grounds are over bumped, while some make use of the Nvidia plugin to generate a normal map without testing and look dulled off.  If I was in the Art Department, I would request my name be taken off the credits.

    EQ2 hands down. Vangaurd has good land scape's but character models and animations blow hard.

    Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

    GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

    I like WOW because the art makes the game look AMAZING, EQ2 and Vanguard both have boring generic art work and look about 5 years old as a result. However i found one really good EQ2 screenshot! On WOW however you can play maxed out in a raid which you cant do on EQ2.

    I like World of Warcrafts graphics better. I much prefer artistic graphics to realistic looking graphics in games. The realistic looking games just don't look realistic anyways so they fail.

    WOW - animations are great but the graphics were outdated when it was released, the artwork is nice though, if you like cartoons.

    EQ2 - good animations and spell effects, bit plasticy IMO

    Vanguard - resource hog, but on highest quality...what can i say, it takes the cake.

    Not at all Vanguard graphics feel lifeless and very bad when your playing, noone has facial expressions and the animations are horrid! The worlds feel barren and the cities have no ecology to make them feel like theres life there. i also felt that trees feel outta place and so do peopels bums.
