Does the OP realize what a hypocrite they sound like? I guess me falling through the world during launch was a "feature"

Many (including myself) will argue that PVP was great untill they started adding 'PVP content'.  I missed the days of world PVP before the instance PVP and 'Honor System'.

Look, i work in computer entertaiment industry myself.

There is no such thing as a game or a program withouth bugs. Even your XP has bugs.

As for WoW bugs you stated.

    It is completely true.

    - I fell trough the world once - But because i used to run and "blink" constantly (mage spell that teleports you 10 meters ahead).

So in a way , i was raping the system. Hardly soprising that you would fall trough the world like that

    - Loot stuck bug - Yes happened to me few times

    - Stuck in the instance - Also happened to me , you had to restart the client

-Queue and Lag - Never had it , i played on RP server (not so popular)

So , 3 really minor bugs are compared to "Horrible state at launch" ,

I just posted this because Vanguard defenders, claim that Vanguard was released in better state than WoW

Some of those bugs are still around.

    - Falling through the world also still happens.

Example : Fell through the map in caverns of time, ended up somewhere in tanaris. Relogged : fell for don't know how long until i got to Undercity, there i kept falling through the ground at the zepelin. Relogged : Ended up standing inside Undercity with my body behind a wall i couldn't get to, finally being able to get to a spirit healer :) (this is 1 of many :P )

    - Loot bug, Still happens, you keep kneeling down until you relog, but you aren't able to loot anything ;)

    - Stuck in instance, yes happened to me 2 times, ZG and AQ20 took about 19 hours to get "unstucked"

    - Queue isn't a bug is you ask me, Lag hardly noticed.

    Not sure...

When i got WoW, a year after release, i had to wait an hour every night to get in my server... let me tell you that WoW hitted the trash bin FAST.

I will also add that WoW was not finish at release either... Key features were missing and got added later on.

Now, flame me all you want.  This is my only post in this thread.
There was a simple answer to avoiding the queue, choose a server with a lower pop.

Hmm then I guess that tracking player positions on the Client instead of the Server was a feature...

    Waiting on Guild Wars 2

Simple hey? Considering we are talking about 'at launch' I don't see it being that simple. Considering most of us here joined the first week when almost all servers populations were 'low' but within a few days of joining one of these low pop servers they were now high pop with 1-2 hour queue's. Not to mention that server transfers weren't available for month(s) after release: & when they finally were organising to move all your friends and guild mates was no easy feat.

    Simple? Not really.

Not to mention that Blackrock server (one of the few pvp servers available) was up and down like a yoyo.

    Polished? Yes (comparitively speaking)

Good launch? No. Huge queues, lots of server downtime != good launch IMO.

WoW had a few bugs, but what game doesn't.  It's all relative, not black and white.  Some people just have what's called a lack of perspective.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Yeah I hated just getting stuck at random while walking around, and that dumb loot bug. Don't know if it was lag or what, but spawns were breaking pretty often too. Would get invulnerable monsters packed in or just none at all and they'd not go away until there was a reset. It was one of the more frustrating games at launch, especially when the Queue's came in so you'd be getting stuck/loot bugged, forced to relog, and be done for the day because of the 4 hour line. I changed servers 4 or 5 times just in the first month, not that it helped.

How can people praise a game like WoW for being polished at launch? Its a cartoon game with very poor graphics. Its theme has been in production for countless years. Its concepts are old and used, taken from actualy good MMO games. All that was done was a blanket of horrible graphics over old concepts. Instancing was somewhat new though, I admit that. Blizzard was very smart. "Lets make instances so we can run 30 of the same zones at the same time instead of actualy making enough content so everyone can play in the same game!!".

WoW was a terrible game at launch, the lack of bugs was due to the small world size and the lack of content they had. Good call all you WoW fanboys. The only reason wow was and is so popular is because a good 95% of their players are 13 yr olds or younger that have never played a "Real" MMO.

You all can call me a WoW hater, I could care less. I had a helluva lot of fun in WoW cause I played with friends, as far as the game goes, it was boring and pointless. WoW was just another trash game recycling old concepts with new corner cutting concepts such as instancing. If  you want to give kudos to Blizzard, it needs to go to their marketing team, not their dev team.

I dont play WoW, it doesnt appeal to me. I think they reason some people are saying about WoW/SWG/EQ2 and any other game you can think of, "was buggy at launch" is to justify the current state of Vanguard SOH and its bugginess.

The degree of polish has nothing to do with graphics style or concepts. It refers to the technical quality and 'completeness' of the product. Compared to other big launches like SWG, EQ2, AC2, Shadowbane, and Vanguard, WoW was released in very good shape. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Again, go back and read the thread title. You are way off in left field.

It didnt have a lot of bugs, but saying it was "complete" is just nonsense.

    Honor system anyone?

    How many 60 instances? one?

    LFG system?

    Missing many features.

Not to mention crap server stability. Mine went down for 72 hours after about 2 days of playing on it. OP said it was fixed in 2 days? Odd considering I think at least 4 of them were DOWN for longer.

Although not many bugs, my favourite was when zoning across on the zep you would fall into the ocean on the other side.

and how about polished? You do know they had to revamp EVERY class? If it was totally polished they wouldnt have needed that.

    So buggy? Not really

    Complete? No

Polished? Yes in some respects, No in others.

    Stable? Hell no.

What I remember most from WOW's launch is how they DOUBLED the servers within 3 days was it? of going live.  They went from 40 something servers to 80+.  My friends and I immediately rerolled on one of the new PVP servers for (relatively) lag-free gaming.

The loot bug was the only thing I ran into consistently at launch.  Compared to other MMO launch bugs, that was like pissing in the ocean.

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

In all honesty, I didnt like WOW, stopped after 2 weeks.   But the only problem I ran into was lag and waiting to get into a server because so many people were playing. Other than that I felt is was released in good shape.

I didnt quit because of bugs and problems, I just didnt like the game.  My computer ran it fine, I didnt run into any major bugs and it played smoothly.

I have no idea why people refer back to WOW"s release, and how bugged it was.  You got me.

WoW buggy at launch.  Well some, but not many.  WoW as a game and an engine was very polished.  Everything they had in the game was very polished.  Did much content actually make it into the game at launch? nope.

Now Blizzard as a server maintainer.  Total and utter crap.  They currently run the worst servers ever.  They went down all of the time.  They would just add new servers on new machines and leave the old servers on old equipment.  They would need to take down the servers a lot.  They lost the continent that the Orcs start on (kalidor spelling?)  for awhile.  Not to mention that there is no reason they should need to take the servers down so often.  Once per week for about a half a day is just plain stupid.  It is not like they have more characters on each server then other games have,  they just have more servers total.  Use some of that cash they are making and higher more employees.  There is no reason why the maitenance should take so long and should need to be done so often.

Blizzard still has a great reputation for putting out an excellent product.  Well polished and easy to use.  I would guess though that Wow has seen its peak already.  It will slowly lose its subscriptions (at least in the NA market)  over the next year.  If a company with as good of a following and as good of a reputation as Blizzard puts out a MMO, I would say WoW will lose a lot of its subscriptions.  Someone like Bioware for instance.  :)

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

I can feel for the Vanguard players that lost levels, Lost 20 levels on my WoW character at launch. went down for that tuesday maintaince at lvl 20 something, and when the server came back up I was back at level 1.

Adding onto the loot bug (For a item based game you would think people would consider not being able to loot something more than "minor") and  Falling through the earth (really bad in the night elf areas), you have the old and current massive issue of Desync. Try watching 4 people play next to each other on a Battleground. No 2 computers will display the characters at the same spot. I remember dying many times because I couldjn't hit the mob.

I wouldn't say that WoW was exactly polished at launch. It was playable but it still had its problems and the severity was all dependant on each persons point of view. For me the loot bug was increadably annoying while trying to mine.
