because I don't want to spoil the fun in beta!
Graphics are stunning and beautiful. Character models fit with environment (they were made for each other!)
Leveling is progressive. Not too easy that they fly by, but not too dull that you are stuck grinding.
Monster play is an amazing idea. Points you get to spend on your monster OR character is a very nice choice. GREAT variety of choices on what to spend the points on.
Crafting seems nice.
I enjoyed it so much that after playing it for a little bit, I decided I wanted to play it, but I didn't want to play unless I got to keep my character... so I'm waiting until the beta to let you keep your current character.
So great I didn't want to spoil it. Beautiful game.
I'm going to pre-order this most definitely.
Can't wait!

I think the game has bland graphics, dull gameplay, and is targetted towards early teens.
To each his own.
Bland graphics? Are you joking?
I played Vanguard on max settings and then LOTR on max settings.
LOTR graphics blow Vanguard's away.
I say that because Vanguard has great graphics.
What do you think of Vanguard's graphics?
IMO their character models (at least the humans) are cartoony while the environment is beautiful. (The character models and environment graphics DO NOT MATCH.)
If you're going to go cartoon models, go cartoon environment. If you're going to go realistic models, go realistic environment.
Don't try to mix cartoons in a realistic environment.
I'm currently playing vanguard but with my hardware I don't really get to experience the graphics to their full potential. Some screenshots do however look amazing.

Really? I play/played both games on a high end machine and find LoTRO to be superior in every aspect. Animations and textures are superior in LoTRO by several orders of magnitude. About the only saving grqace of Vanguard graphics were the distance view which was good. However the muddy textures in Vanguard, it's bad animations, and the horrible performance were just not worth it.
I miss DAoC
Poly count does not make better graphic, its good texture work, an artisit style/theme and talent, some thing VGSOH does not have.
ummm wrong, Vanguard could only wish it looked that good LOL
here is another Lotro screenie stolen from the screen shot thread

mmmm yeeeah, thats greeat, a little to the left would be greeeat, ::sips coffee mug:::
All in all there is no saving grace for this title. It will be a huge hit because of the name and its ease of use. It's definately a game ANYONE can pick up and understand the first day (some will say this is a great feature... I will say that I enjoy a challenge).
That version is not in the hands of the betatesters yet,so you're not seeing the best yet.
Turbine is currently setting it up and will make some comparisons between the different versions.

Well, in LOTRO, the higher you go the better the gameplay elements seem to get.
There are some absolutely beautiful weapons and armor in game. However, there does seem to be a share of bland lower lvl equipment.
I've noticed that the characters do render better when you put everything on the highest settings. I wouldn't say the graphics are on par with WoW but they do utilize rich colors and in some instances can evoke a sort of Maxfield Parrish feel. Because of this, I can see some not liking the art design.
As far as being lvl 6 in Beta, the game play does get richer. I have a lvl 19 Guardian and the instanced/story quests are starting to get really good. Does it continue to do this? Have no idea.

Not to complain, but those screenshots really weren't that impressive.... just the usual run of the mill fair I think..
Which is fine btw, I'm not one to favor graphics over gameplay and performance....but i just wouldn't run around bragging about the graphics just yet. (at least until the high rez ones are released)

Though I'm not sure that these shots do the game justice. You kind of have to see how the light reflects off the world to really get a good idea.

I think the Grahpics in LOTRO are fantastic ! Of course i'm happy playing Ultima Online in 2d . The main factor for me in preordering wasnt the great graphics, it was how the game played. And that my friends is the bottom line. The great graphics are a bonus to me.
I have no idea how anyone is not impressed with the graphics in LOTRO. Not only are they great but my machine handles them flawlessly. No problems what so ever. Sort of like WOW. To me I want the graphics to be just under too realistic, if they are too good, then it becomes less of a game and more real life, and I play the games to escape that
rofl the stupid thing i ever heard, wow don't even have textures and many things are not even 3D
How come when I load up the game, with max settings mind you, I get screenshots like these?

I'd have to personally say that in my experience, the graphics in Vanguard simply blow away LOTRO.
I haven't played through the entirety of either game mind you, but newbie areas are your first impression to a game, and LOTRO has left me with a bad impression of the game. (In addition to the fact that I don't like how similar it is to DDO).

Because you are in the noob instance for the elves and dwarves which is completely uninspired. I'm not impressed with the Dwarven starting point (which is essentially the noob instance except that elves then go to Celendom which is very nice.
Part of what makes the graphics in this game is the use of color and how light plays off of surfaces. The blandness of the Dwarf (or dwarf/elf starting instance) makes it hard to really appreciate anything the world offers.
Believe me, I wasn't impressed until I left the noob instance.

Fair enough Sovrath, I'll try to hold judgement until I see the other areas. However, I wish someone would tell turbine that a first impression is important. If your first impression with LOTRO is these bland and uninspired newbie areas, how are you supposed to be motivated to see the rest of the game (If you're not that big of a lotr fan)?
