The poll should have had another choice which is:

O  Cancelled during last days of beta and will see how it looks in 6 months to see if it is ready.

I played all from Beta 3 all the way up to my first 3 days in the retail game.  the game never got fun.  Just a boring same ol same ol quest/grind fest.  So glad I didn't buy this game when it hit the shelves.  Starting to think Vanguard would be in better hands with SOE than Sigil.
    /played-mmorpgs

Total time played: 9125 Days, 21 Hours, 29 Minutes, 27 Seconds
Time played this level: 39 Days, 1 Hour, 24 Minutes, 5 Seconds

    Coldmeat:

You can use ANY SOE gamecard for Vanguard. If you can't find any with a Vanguard label on then buy an EQ, EQ2 or SWG one (Or planetside or MxO of course).

So yes gamecards are avaible for Vanguard.

I have cancelled my account and will keep a very close eye on the patch notes for the next few months whilst everything is smoothed out. In the mean time i have bought EQ2 as everyone saying this is the 'prequel' to VG so it's worth a look!

I am having fun in the game and it gets a little better with each update, so i will be staying, but if they don't fix the memory leak or whatever is causing my game to crash every two hours, in the next month or so, then i will most likely quit.  it's not a big deal to crash and die at the lower lvls but now when i crash at the end of some dungeon I lose hours worth of exp and it really tests my patience.

Just thought I would mention incase you didn't know you can get all lost exp back by retrieving your tombstone, I am sure you already know this  and are just talking about the bummer of haven to clear back to body :) another option is to get a rogue or ranger to sneak to your tombstone and drag it back to u( /consent name ) The mem leak is an issue everyone is dealing with and have heard alot about so I assume the developers are hard at work on it. Though in game when I start to get sloppy i just reset the performance level to something new and reset it back and seesm to remove the slop.

Just want to correct, even if you do the corpse run, you still get xp loss.  Not a big one but you don't get it all back.  I think it depends on your level for I hear it ranges from 8-10%.  I'm too lazy to measure it myself but that seems right.

Right now stealth is kinda broken as it is very difficult to level so rogues and rangers are getting spotted easily.  I suppose once that's fixed, you can have someone sneak in and drag your body.
  • parmenionparmenion Member Posts: 260
IIRC. Dying has a penalty of 10% of the exp to make next level, getting resed, having your tombstone dragged to you or getting it yourself returns 8-9% making your loss only 1-2% of what's needed for the next level up. You can't delevel, but you can acrue debt if you go below the minimum of current level.

I like that the world doesn't feel pointless and sanitised with mobs that leash after 15 feet and deaths so easy they're just another means of travel, that doesn't suit everyone though.

Man almost our group today almost lost our corpses in the bottom of a dungeon today.  Thankfully, since there are no instances, a group game by and rezzed us up.  It did make us reconsider going into the dungeon with a lower level group.

Cancelled and wondering if going to a hypnotist to try to get this pos permanently deleted from my mind would work.

Gonna stick to Burning Crusade for the next few months because I don't have the time to commit to a deeper MMO like Vanguard.

However, I'm in a position where I can afford to keep my sub for both, and I will do so because I like the vision of the game and sincerely want them to have the resources to get the rest of the way there. Despite the bugs I liked the crafting, diplomacy (interface needs work there though...), harvesting and as I leveled in adventuring I liked the way the character was developing.

Oh, and some of the scenery is stunning.

So yeah, when TBC gets as dull as WoW did, I'll be back. I just hope Brad and Co. have been using my money wisely in the mean time :)

I played WoW but stopped playing after a few months.  Even though I quit, I still think WoW is a great game and offers a lot to gamers.  And the game can be challenging.  I don't know, maybe it's a jealousy thing or something...  Anyways, responses like that do nothing to help VG.
They resort to those kinds of statements because they cannot defend their position. You know what's funny?  In a couple of months, those same players will be cursing at LotRO and saying how crappy that game is.  And then in October, they'll be doing the same for Age of Conan and then WAR and then...etc.There's a big difference here.  People are complaining and leaving VG 2 weeks in.  Those "other" games might or might not have those problems.  I can tell you this though LORTO will most certainly launch with a huge playerbase out of the gate.  How long will they stay?  We'll see.  I don't think anything out there will unseat WoW anytime soon but LOTRO will probably give it a run for the money.

Can you give it a rest with your "WoW is better posts". You are entitled to your opinion but if WoW is so great, then there is no need to be here. I really dont understand why you people feel the need to come here and defend WoW. If it's so great, it hardly needs you to defend it.

    Cheers

I believe there is something wrongly titled in the poll. It is the "Continue to play as normal" option. I wonder if the OP can correct it. It would wrongly mislead a newcomer to believe that he/she can actually play Vanguard as normal.

I find this thread very insightful..

More than half the population that has taken the poll is or has canceled, most saying they will never be back.  If these numbers are real, SOE/SIGIL has to be panicing at the moment.

I hate to say it but don't bet on it. Many who say they are cancelling won't. I'm in that majority. SOE/Sigil know this. I'm not happy with the state of the game at all. Since the end of beta it has become progressively worse (stability wise). We, as MMO gamers, are suckers for punishment and tend to stick around no matter what the state of the game. Some people will cancel, no doubt, but probably not enough to do any real damage. Not yet anyway, should these problems progress, that may very well change.

So far I like Vanguard, granted that im not past  lvl 15 and lots of people says that after lvl 15-20 the game goes to a grind fest, but I don't think this will bother me much since I played Lineage2 for a few years and loved it. My computer like most can't handle max graphics but what it can handel looks just as good as most to me. I'll keep playing while its fun and main thing is to get in a guild with good people to enjoy the game. So as far as the question, I will keep my account going for now.

p.s. I wonder how the bots and farmers are going to like this game?

I agree with what you are saying...

I think the drop dead date for most people will be LoTOR release. My reasoning is fairly simple, the die hard Vanguard fans will stick it out no matter what, Sigil can count on them. However, there is a vast group of gamers who will jump to the "Next Big Thing" if their needs are not being met by their current MMORPG.

Sigil needs to clean things up by then, because the semi-casual fans who are here for potential will move on, because that potential is unrealized, and they'll hope to find it in the next game. That's the group of people that I think Sigil needs to appeal to, and needs to convince that Vanguard is really all that.

I will continue playing as I do now.

Vanguard is everything I want from an MMO game.  I could not play another game and convince myself it's better because said game is more polished and complete.

Just not worth my time anymore.

  • RihahnRihahn Member Posts: 146

I bought the box, so much like every other MMO I've played (and there are many), I'll check on it from time to time and see if it catches my attention. I mean, I have characters I log into on rare occasions on everything from UO to Shadowbane, though my EQ1 druid has been hanging out at the bottom of the Aviak's tree in Southern Karana for something like 3 years now...

So far my reaction to V:SoH is much like my initial reaction with EQ2, which I also paid for 30 days of and cancelled - really nice graphics at the expense of everything else.

So, ultimately, there is no MMO available right now that "does it" for me. I've literally played every race/class in WoW to 60 and 2 to 70 now, LoTRo isn't doing it for me (but neither has D&Do, AC2, or AC), and most of the "up and comming" MMOs look kinda weak.

I'm really hoping Warhammer Online has that "something special", but the current direction of the games industry has me not expecting much.

While it is true that a lot of the people that say they are cancelling really won't, a large percentage will (or already have). And I know I am seeing fewer people in zones and more and more I see people in guild that simply don't log in any more.

But the problem is, if only 30% quit or don't renew, that will put many of the server populations too low to get groups with (and it is bad enough already).

I think I mostly agree with that. A lot of people I see in the game are ex eq2 and ex WOW just looking around to see if it is their next big game. And if things don't get on track by LOTR, I think there will be quite an exodus of those. Which might leave the diehard ex old EQ players hanging out all alone in ghost towns.

It all depends on if Sigil can pull it together by then - I figure they have 6 weeks max.

I knew Vanguard would be disappointing, the hype on their forums, from the very start, indicated that SigilSUCKS was determined to produce a game that had no new ideas but they would try to dress the old ideas in new clothing.

Reports leaked to the public throughout the beta period confirmed that V:SoH would be yet another fantasy world vanilla ice cream cone, and when I finally installed the game I found this to be the case. But, I like vanilla ice cream, and I know from experience that not all vanilla ice cream is alike, some brands can taste better than others. And, I like new clothes. So I bought the game and installed it.

Big mistake---$50 (USD) down the toilet.

Why? I could go on and on but here are the major reasons:

    • Bugs, bugs, everywhere---is this a mmorpg or a bee hive?
    • Lame graphics considering the massive system requirements; I kind of think the artists and the devs never once talked to one another.
    • Lame quests which stayed lame as you leveled up. Laughable storylines, too.
    • A community of players that resembled a petting zoo population of animals who hadn't been fed in many days. Not really SigilSUCKS's fault, howerver, I don't want to deal with beasts.
    • The sleazy feeling of "I've been robbed, again." by a game company who knew their product was half done yet shipped it anyway in order to force fans to start underwriting development.

Regarding the new clothes, SigilSUCKS can have my dirty underwear back. And, for the vanilla ice cream, they can lick me. I won't play Vanguard again, ever.

The Good: The skies are amazing especially cranked up. Uhm.... really trying to think of something else good here... Oh yeah!  Diplomacy was fun. They are trying hard to get it out of it's beta condition.

The Bad:  Overly hyped landscaped graphics - they are mediocre.  The character models are wooden and counter-immersive (!?)even though the textures on them are pretty good.  Still too many bugs.  Aside from diplomacy there is absolutely nothing new or interesting here for me.

The Ugly:  Picture a woman with tons of make up giving you her best fake smile - you continue to watch - eventually her smile falters and returns to a dull maybe even tired expression until someone new comes by - then she flashes her best fake smile again and sucks in her gut...  That is precisely what I am left feeling with Vanguard.

The conclusion:  I don't think I would accept money to keep playing Vanguard let alone give money.  Dumping it.

you guys should give/sell me your box and accounts haha...i doubt this post will last. so many people quitting already! i guess you can judge a game by the mainstream conversation after a month. Whether its about where to go and where to find stuff or whether the game sucks or is good and whether its going to die or live.

Never take life too seriously youre never gonna make it out alive.

This morning was the last straw, again I lost experience and the game crapped.  I just got fed up and deleted this monstrosity off my hard drive.   This game reminds me of Shadowbane alot, extremely poorly coded with bugs galore.

I wonder how long it will take them to fix it, if they ever do.

Great eye candy, but horrible playability.
