A bit off topic here however, is vanguard the type of game where you can go to 1 area and just level up untill your hearts content (kinda like swg was), or do you have to do loads of quests to get xp (like wow)?. I'm an swg vet and love to grind so maybe I will enjoy vanguard. Thnx
It's a combination of questing and grinding. If you simply solo quest, pretty soon the quests get too hard and you have to find groups. Grinding by itself, though, is very slow once you get up to around level 10, but you can find areas and just spend 2-3 levels working the mobs for xp and items.
You MUST grind to level your skills up, otherwise, you wind up with a higher level weak character. I am seeing people complaining about this in other forums. People have run their characters up to 20+ levels and not be any good at using a valuable magic they find or buy.
The best combination seems to be: Run some quests, grind to keep skills leveled, and run more quests.
- How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
- I don't know, but some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?
I wouldn't say complicated. For adventuring, just like WoW, once you figure out what 5 buttons to click and in what order, you can hold your own. Grinding is slow and like was stated, it's good to grind just for skills but grinding to level is silly. You can get much more experience by questing and there are tons of quests if you take the time to travel and look for them. What makes the game "complicated" is that VG does not hold your hand and tell you how to do everything. You actually have to figure out some things yourself.
There are tons of quests and lore but the basic result is the same, kill 10 rats, kill 10 super rats, then kill the rat boss. Same 'ole stuff. I'm level 17 so I can't say what's beyond that or how the end game is but right now, adventuring is nothing mind blowing. Just something a little different so if you're tired of another MMO at least you get some different things to look at and kill
I haven't tried crafting much so I can't say anything about that. Seems boring to me.
Diplomacy is new and unique to this game and if you like Magic: The Gathering, you'll find this in-game card game easy and you may enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, it's no magic the gathering but it's easier to understand if you've played it.
The game is still littered with bugs and server issues. They will get them fixed but if this is something that drives you nuts then I would stray away for a few more months.
Does the game seem really grindy and complicated to anyone else? Both the crafting and harvesting seem really involved, complicated and tedious. I feel like trying to climb over a wall that's too steep, every time sliding back down a bit when I find out something new. I really don't like the game atm. Too complicated and too involved in every aspect of the game. I find the graphics to be boring too. Nothing like the pictures I've seen. Also, the community seems rather spread out. And in the 2 days I've played I've had no or little chance to talk to other people besides in /shout. The zones are too big imo to accomodate that.
No, sorry. Indeed, VG is not a flashy game that takes a month as a newb to get max level.
Thanks for sharing and i hope you gonna find something easier and more flashy (LOTRO maybe?)
I mean its nice they tried to make crafting a little more involved and interesting...but it doesn't change the fact you can't add any personalized touches to any items you make. it quickly becomes a dull, repetitive grind despite its complexity. Everything is just a vanilla copy like everyone else, unless I'm missing something. Questing is just doing fed-ex and killing piles of monsters, moving to the next area, and doing it all over again with no variation except for different scenery and virtually no effort to further the genre like it promised. There is no focused storyline, at least at lower levels, further making it feel pointless and a yawn. Hope it changes, but for now its bland & uninspiring. The world is very large and looks pretty on max settings but the landscape itself lacks interesting details and simply dull to explore. Forests, especially, don't feel like forests just a scattering of trees, while WoW actually made forests feel and look like forests visually and sound-wise.
Dying and paying the exp penalty for things out of your control, like some guy running past with a hostile mob on his tail which attacks and kills you, invisible mobs...ain't fun either. I'm just not a huge fan of the exp penalty and having to re-grind what you lost; that isn't fun or "challenging" that's just pure tedium. They should invent other ways instead of taking steps backwards to EQ IMO. I don't want max level in 2 weeks or something, I just want a quality experience that's actually worth 15 a month because right now it feels criminal for them taking a monthly fee for a game in a state like this.
Thanks for replying. Maybe it's not my kinda game. I'll try different settings too next time. I heard VG would be something between EQ and WoW in difficulty and envolvment. VG seems, at least to me atm, much more involved and difficult than EQ from what I've done in tradeskills and diplomacy. The travelling to other zones takes a lot more time than EQ does atm. Thought it would be a bit easier. I can understand the game perefectly btw, just mean it's pretty 'big', the info and learning process is really steap and involved. ty~

I really dont have a chance do i LOL
Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.
