Man, the day i had today was just SICK!. Beware of sick language o_o
First of all, i was trying to film a scene for my upcoming GW movie, putted my 2 freinds in front of me, and just when im about to start filming, a little level 13 W/R pops up outta nowhere, i ask him kaindly to leave and then he says NO!, and then: I bang yur mothear su hard and se like it (Yes with spelling errors even)
Then he was like, Pay me to leave!, and i was outta there...
Tryed filming second scene, Putted a musican to the left, one to the right. after just 10 seconds, people comes up there like they we're in the candy store, standing right up in them dancing, doing drums, and guess what when i asked them to leave kaindly...
''PAY ME!!!'' and the classic ''shut up n0b'' *Sigh* people dont even know what noob means anymore...
So i decided to leave, and i got packed up with tons of PM's ''Ye i bangd yu mom!!'' all that sorts of crap...
So what have happend to this community
. I can even film a 20 second long scene without getting packed up by small kiddies, how did it go this way?, why are everyne so rude

This is becoming common in MMORPGs, lots of children playing a game and messing up everything, making hard to someone like us play the game... That really sux, but if you want to play a MMORPG these days, you'll need to play with such people... No exception... I know its really bad... but what can we do?
Youkitsu.
Wow. I never realized the community was that bad. I suppose its because I'm always doing quests and other stuff. I don't really pay attention to whats going on in towns and outposts. Where do these guys hang out anyways?

It wasn't bad at the beginning, when the closed beta and those 'open beta weekends' were there everyone wanted to party. People weren't such asses, hell it was so much fun and refreshing i even bought the CE of GW. After being inactive for a few months i noticed my guild was 'gone' after getting in contact with a old guild member he told me why, the community was going downhill for more then just that reason. I guess it has reached it's alltime worst state, this doesn't go for everyone offcourse but the majority of the community are just frustrated kids who can't afford a monthly payment for a mmorpg or something.

I've written this before and will note it again. A-Net doesn't seem to have an easily accessible reporting system for reporting racist, vulgar, or sexually explicit or offensive names or chats. Because there is virutally no accountability, "kids" (including adults that act like them) log on and feel they can get away with anything they want.
I find the racist rants and sexually explicit/offensive character names the worst. Names like "Vagina Man" are right up there with names (from Nightfall) like "Spear Chukka" and rants posted on chat that read, "Jews can't be assassins" and other such racist and bigoted tripe.
Combined with the idiots who spam the local chat with offers to buy and sell, and local chat isn't even worth reading. I have mine turned off most of the time.
As much as I hated what the devs did to the game, I have to admit the very best community I've seen in any on-line game was in City of Heroes. Bad behavior was the exception rather than the rule, because CoH had a quick and easy reporting system built right into your chat window and the GMs were quick to respond to violations of the EULA.
Not so in GW hence the in-game community suffers because of it.
The bottom line though is that GW's community doesn't suck because the game is free. It sucks because A-Net doesn't have an adequate in-game system for reporting violations, and the GMs - if there even are any - don't deal with violators.
towns where you see naked dances -> ascalon pre searing , shing jea , temple of baltazar
other places that people go just to chat -> grotto , lians arch ID1
might have more , this are the ones i remember and know about.
about the comunity , guildwars as 3 million acounts sold , there are all diferent kinds of players.
from my experience you find younger people at lower level zones and older people at end game zones , its not a hard line sure you find young guys playing in end game zones , but not many at all , seeing a 13 year old doing a quest in doa is very rare. then again , from my experience.
I play a lot guildwars and besides the kindergarden in some towns , trade spams in local chat in some towns , i like guildwars comunity. i meet all kinds of people , sometimes have a lot of fun , sometimes not that much fun becose the quest is not going as we would like , the group gets moody , but over all its mostly fun.
RULE NUMBER ONE to have a good experience in guildwars ( imo )
buy - headset with mic , install - Teamspeak and Ventrilo
when u add a friend to your friends list , make notes on a book about where u meet , doing what , when. becose guildwars as 3 million players.

Pre-Searing towns and Great Temple of Balthazar are the worst offenders. Sometimes Ascalon City and Lion's Arch can be pretty bad, as well as Shing Jea Monastery, Kamadan, Kaineng Center, and both House zu Heltzer and Cavalon on occasion. Sometimes Grotto can be pretty bad, but that's mostly just a hangout spot. You also get some nastiness in Droknar's Forge after someone gets a run and can't afford their armor. But by and far Great Temple is the worst.
Still, for as often as I find that junk, I still find plenty of nice players that are helpful and courteous. There's still a good number of mature players out there.

Whenever I have to go to those places you guys have mentioned I usually switch over to the last district because my computer gets really laggy with all the people running around. Not to mention the fact that I usually play when nobody is around since I live in Hawaii. I play around 1am - 3am and I don't see too many people on at that time. I'm sorry to hear about your experience Goddyfather. I would have been frustrated also if those kids bothered me while I was trying to film.

Though I voted this one, because it's true.
Seriously, GW's community is not the best one, but I don't see how that would be a problem. You're not supposed to play with every player in the game : the game is 95% instanced.
Just play with your guild and do your videos in unpopulated districts.

"becuz its true? do you say that cuz you really banged his mother?"
Case in point.
Yes there are (unfortunately) a lot of idiots, in any game, maybe more so than you could meet for "real", since they hide behind avatars and feel safe about it. That is true for any online game as it starts enjoying a certain level of popularity.
Furthermore, as someone has already mentioned, those morons' interferences are limited to hubs, while most of the game is spent within a hard cap-sized group. Therefore it is easy to stick to exporable areas, missions, guild halls and the like.
Should you still want to make your movie in a town or outpost, try International Districts, hardly ever anyone there.
Finally, IMO the key to getting rid of those buggers is to ignore them. Not as in putting them in your ignore list. More like: do nothing. Don't talk, move, use any emote... Nothing. You act as if they (and you) weren't there, they can't get the satisfaction of annoying you and leave due to boredom.

Yes, ignoring as suggested by the previous post works really well for the nut cases.
For the record, I've been playing GW for some time now, and I've mnaged to see some decent players and chat going on about as often as I see some completely inane (and often incomprehensible) drivel. I think there's more of the latter, alas, than in WoW.....but I suspect that without the monthly fee system, the GW support structure probably doesn't have as many patrolling GMs responding toc complaints, or even a complaint system to speak of. Buuuuuut.....the real point of the game, the instances, is so well designed and fun to play that I find it easy to overlook the yokels in town.

I think all the comments on the first page are totally blown out of all proportion. If your making a movie in a town or outpost then you have to expect the public to be there. From the sounds of it you feel that you have the right to occupy that space for filming whenever you want - you dont! You also have to expect that people of all ages and backgrounds are going to be playing the game. So you have to be prepared for stupid comments in the chat dialog box. Thats the reason why there is a chat filter option. How many times do you see people dancing or doing emotes and other random people come up and do the same thing in the same area, alot in my experience. People want the involvement too especially if they are young and think they are missing out on something. As other people have stated why dont you film somewhere else, or try back a different time. IMO there are two different communities, and those can be usually distinguished by age. One where youngsters want stuff right there and then, eg. help, money, items. The second where theres a portion of the overall community who want to develop their character or unstanding of the game in a polite way - this is the main type of player i usually encounter. With the first type of community, you have to get used to this, its in all games to some degree. There is an ignore function too you know. I've played the game since it was released, I think the community is just fine, infact from alliance experience its brilliant, everyone helps each other and you have several guilds with all those players who are like minded. One thing i will say is that it would be good to have more GM's in game, and to have them visible more. Worst thing in Guild Wars = Leechers in Alliance Battles.
The community is just fine, healthy and typical of a game where people play from all over the world. I also think that if you state/advertise that your trying to make a movie your just setting yourself up for grief, especially in a public place.
Yes, Guild Wars players are some of the worst scum in the world of MMO's, its not uncommon for a player to be childish, selfish, stupid and with a severe superiority complex.
Its pathetic.
