I quit Vanguard to play LOTRO in beta

RudedawgCDNRudedawgCDN Member UncommonPosts: 507

Hi all,

I'm sure this is not going to come as news to many who have tried Vanguard, but LOTRO is better in beta than Vanguard is in release.

LOTRO is polished and the character animations are not glitchy and buggy like in Vanguard. If you haven't tried the monster pvp in LOTRO well it's just - a blast. While I understand some will like Vanguard more because it's "harder" I honestly don't need a second job, I have a successful career and I have never understood people who can work 8-12 hours a day and then play a video game for another 4-6.

You may call it "relaxing" I call it wasting your life.

I'm not a LOTRO fan - I really could care less about hobbits and what have you - but I do find the quests immersive, which in turn makes the game immersive. LOTRO is definately a game you can play for an hour or 2 and get something done.

LOTRO also has some nice features like voice - very nice!

Final thought:

LOTRO is WoW only better. If you didn't like WoW you won't like LOTRO (I liked WoW from 1-59)

    heh, I quit LOTR Beta (since last summer) to play Vanguard (which I was also in beta for). LOTR and Vanguard can't be compared, they are two very different games. Some people will like LOTR, and some people will like Vanguard. Maybe I'll go make a "I didn't go to LOTR, and am still playing Vanguard" post now ;P   Posting a thread like this is pretty pointless man.

    Than you need to post this in the LoTRO forums as posting it here is nothing more than a blatant, all be it pathetic attempt at starting a flame war.

    I'm all for conversing about the issues on either game but a post like this is just completely counter productive. In other words, you fail... at life.

    Is there any point at all to this thread.....if LOTRO makes you happy then go there....noone cares.

    It's obvious that since you liked WoW from 1 - 59 then VG would not be the game for you.  It's way above your play level.

    For the record I beta tested LOTRO and in my mind VG blows it away....LOTRO to me seems like a not so good version of WoW (and I didn't even like WoW).  There is no community in that game since noone groups.....its a solo player MMO which I'll never understand the need for.

    Anyway enjoy LOTRO....im sure you'll be bored and on the next new MMO after that.

    If this is your viewpoint, a viewpoint I mostly agree with, why did you ever even start playing Vanguard?  Its clearly "not for you"™.

    Lol I haven't logged into LOTR since Vanguard was released.

    Then again, I could barely bring myself to login before.

    I wonder if you posted this in the LotRO forums......

    Nope, maybe next time you'll post it in the correct forum next time...

    I hear ya i have a busy life and LOTR fits the bill perfectly. Vanguard if you got it running without bugs is too much of a time sink as is with the bugs etc just makes it way worse.

    I think the point of his post was to get people to waste their time replying.  I doubt he's even around.

    Wrong forum maybe?

    Lotro is a good game, but it is a Guild Wars in Lotr skin and that totally ruins the game for me.

    I've played both WOW and VG....and believing that somehow VG requires any more skill to play than WOW is false.  The only difference really is you have to grind a lot  more in VG.... but actual skill? Puleezz...

    Huh?  LotRO is *nothing* like Guild Wars.  Not in any way whatsoever.  You need to actually play these games before posting.

    LotRO is also nothing like V:SoH.  It is true that LotRO is much closer in heart to WoW than it is to EQ1.  But then, these days, most MMORPG are closer to WoW than to EQ1.

    It will be very interesting to see where V:SoH is in 6 to 12 months.  I would be willing to bet (If I could find someone) that V:SoH will have its own little NGE (slowly, over time) that will move it closer to the WoW camp than to the EQ1 or EVE camp.  Hmmm, now lets talk about that 2x Exp weekend.  Man, that's some hardcore stuff there.  How long before camping in an Inn or City allows you to build up 2x exp?

    Apparently actual knowledge of the games is too much to ask.  If had a dime for everyone who posted completely wrong things about Guild Wars I'd be rich.

    LOTRO is boring and small. While I don't think it's a bad game I can't see it holding interest very long... it doesn't hold a candle to Vanguard.

    There have been other posts like this.

    LotR = Casual

    VG = Hardcore

    Was pretty much the outcome.

    While I agree that posting how good LotR is on a Vanguard message board is in poor taste Vanguard is not above anyone’s play level.

    It may more time than many of the newer MMOs but that does note make it harder.  You still use WSAD to move, you tab or point click to find mobs and auto attack, you cast spells/specials off your hotbar using 1-10+.  You lose hitpoints when damaged, you die when they run out, you burn energy and mana on specials and spells.

    It dresses the process up a little with reactions, chains, and counters but none of that changes the fundamental nature of the game which is very similar to EQ, WoW, DAoC, etc…

    LOTRO is better for you.  If you have more fun in it, great!  What more can we say.  It's better for YOU, not everyone.

    I'm happy that you are having fun in LOTRO.  There's mmos for everyone out there :)  I'm a gamer with a job.  I play VG casual and having fun.  I can play 4 hours a couple days during the week because, well... i'm a gamer with a job ;)

    That was meant as a comment to all the instances found in LOTRO. And that the entire game world feels like one instance after the other.

Why do you think it takes so long to organize raids in WoW?  Because everybody solo.  They have no group experience until they reach end game.  It's a shame to show someone that is 60 how to play in a group.

    Thats just my opinion.

    The funny thing is, I quit LOTRO Beta for Vanguard...

    LOTRO was just to immature, bland, boring missing in depth, not complex enough.  I hated the animation in LOTRO, look at elfs running...

    It is subjective who likes what. On the other hand, whoever said 2 games are different is right. One is a sinking ship of an unfinished, buggy, crunky, mishy mash grindfest with gross graphical inconsistencies. The other is a polished and balanced product with meaningful quests, deep lore and immersiveness.

    CONTRIBUTE INTO THE GAMING INDUSTRY! STOP PAYING FOR BORING COPYCATS, UNFINISHED BUGFESTS AND CRANKY JUNKWARE. BE A RESPONSIBLE GAMER!

    Yep it is subjective.  I wouldnt call LOTRO a mishy mash grindfest ;) It is more like a those old school arcade game, throw a coin into it and have 5 minutes of stream-lined fun.

    I do agree with you that VAnguard has  meaningful quests, deep lore and immersiveness ;)

    When people have a passion for MMORPG then they probably will like both games, because both games have so much to offer, though I must say VSoH is more of a world you can life in while LotrO feels like more of a game you need to play.

    Had great fun in beta but stopped before I knew to much of LotrO so I can enjoy a fresh start when its released, playing VSoH and really enjoying it, must admit its still sad to see all those level grinders in game, its also that crowed that is the loudest about complaining about bugs cause its very hard to get to level cap in a week with VSoH also due to bugs people get at higher level’s.

    If people would forgot this stupid level grind they doing in MMORPG and try to enjoy the world, act like they belong in that world the mmorpg scene would become a much better on. I’m playing almost since release (been in beta for bout 2 months in VSoH) and the many bugs I hear people complain about I can almost say I feel jalouse cause I seem to be left out and almost never hit any bugs, and been in many groups, the only thing that happened a couple of times where targets suddenly disappearing, but little movement around them and they become visible again, no game stopper here

    Seriously those people complaining about paying for beta are really sad people, if I go out with some rl friends to a club/bar I think that in the first 15 minutes I spend already more money and sometimes have to listen to music I don’t like, then the lousy sub-fee each month, people must really be greedy persons if they get upset for such a small amount each month.

    To many people are obsessed with DPS, XP, overall Stats, its really funny, I wonder if these kind of people will measure their height everyday, count their teeth in their mouth, check the strength in their arms everyday, all these things makes me wonder why people are treating their games like it is their job, try to enjoy games for what they bring, try being a adventurer in MMORPG’s that’s what I think is what makes these games great, double xp weekend and all that sort of nonsense is for those that treat their game like a job cause with a job you don’t want to loose items, when you play for pleasure you don’t worry about tiny stuff like that cause for me that is a attitude that belongs in single player FPS games or regular FPS online games not in MMORPG’s.

    Other then that I’m happy for the Poster that he like LotrO more then he does VSoH and from a level-grinders perspective I really can understand that.

    Yes VSoH is a time-sink but most people think when they read that they need to spend like 24/7 in game to get anywhere, for level-grinders that is true, for mmorpg-players there is no such thing, what we can not complete today in the hour we can play we might be able to do tomorrow or next week, no rush in MMORPG’s not even if like some people say “well my friends have more time to play” just think” good for them” get mature and except that not everything can be your’s.

    aka

    LotR = A game

    and don't tell me that VSoH requires more brainpower or skill than other games, you are lying to everyone including yourself, it requires no life and no common sense.
