So, many people have heard of the unofficial rumors of Guild Wars 2. For those that haven't, look up "Guild Wars Eye of the North" and you'll run into it at some point. There will always be a seperate divide of people who are for this change and those who are against it.
I am personally a person who is for Guild Wars 2. Presuming that the rumors are true of course, introducing new aspects into the game, and improving the game design to accommodate the new ability of computer systems, such as dual core becoming more popular then ever before, is natural to a successful game such as Guild Wars.
Adding new content is always good, but there is only so much that can be done with a game engine before a new one has to be designed. A new game engine would mean better graphics, frame-rates, animation detail and will improve the overall aesthetic and technical quality of Guild Wars.
But there is always the big question:
Is Guild Wars: Part 2 a good idea, or should A-Net continue to make chapters for the current Guild Wars?
Comments
I wonder why they announce both the expansion and GW2 at the same time.
Assuming the article is correct on this. Some of it seems to be true, the Asuran thing e.g..
Several magazines will get the pet and an article about GW, starting with a greek magazine on March 27th, an US mag on April 3rd, and a german one on April 25 or so.
Let's talk about it in a few weeks...
For now I can only say one thing: If it gets released in 2009/2010 and the IV. Chapter in late 2007, what shall we do in 2008/2009? Don't they fear to lose customers???
What kind of 'merge' do you think they'd try and incorporate from one game to the 2nd.. or do you think that you'd have to start over from square 1 with the new game.. was EQ to EQ2 liks that??? Can't imagine trying to come up wtih another 1000 skills, builds and story for GW2 .. I mean what could they realistically improve on besides a better map boundry .. jumping.. the graphics are tolerable for awhile.. regardless, it's 3 years away minimum. I'll be enjoying the ride..
Peace.
It's probably a good idea, no use beating the dead horse too much.
[blargh stupid double post]
Or perhaps fighting animation between two characters, as in they clash swords, parry moves, and actually look like they are fighting each other, rather then using a set of three animations to simulate that.
Improving characters graphics so that wounds are noticeable, for example, as they get more and more injured eg.health goes down, more injuries and cuts appear and as they are healed injuries regenerate.
Perhaps A=Net could include a place where people can trade items and equipment, as I am sure most are aware of, several areas such as Kaining are tormented by tons of players constantly trying to sell their goods, most of which only specialist people will want or be able to buy, which can cause some problem for some PC users trying to use these areas.
Another idea could include a stylist shop, where a character could change their appearance for a fee, such as hair colour, style, age, eye colour, and allow for more customisation within a players looks so seeing your twin is a very rare occasion.
There are some ideas about what could be included into GW:2. Does anyone else have any ideas/what is your opinion on these current ideas?
Visible injuries: for that to work you need to be zoomed in to notice them, that would not work in pvp where you must look for your own team & the opponents positions. But it would make battles "living".
For the rest of the ideas they all have been suggested before (think auction was suggested 10 minutes after GW was released) & are nedeed (several of the suggestions would make great gold-sinks).
More motion in backgrounds and scenery, for example a setting could be during a naval battle, where ships are actually shooting each other while attempting to evade each other. Another example is less dynamic, but making simple things such as improving some weather effects such as rain, sleet, or high winds. This attention immerses a player into the game world and gives him a powerful gaming experience.
Guild Wars has the core game sussed. It just needs to improve on aspects to keep players coming back for more.
What is your opinion?
One thing I would like to see is that while I am a fan of the existing instanced system, especially for pvp, I would like to see some sort of area that is persistant. Like the shifting border in Factions would be more interesting if it was actuallly made up of persistant zones where forces fight back and forth rather then through a series of matches. Something to make it more warlike. The problem is that I dont really think its possible to add something like this under the current instanced system.
Another feature that is underused is the challenge maps in Factions (Fort Aspenwood, forget the other one). More things like these should be added, and guilds should be able to enter as a team. Basically give more options for gvg than the sole current kill the opposing lord maps. There can be different ladders and whatnot for different challenges. Halls fulfils this to a certain extent, but they still for the most part revolve around killing the other team over fulfilling a more complex objective.
Whether its rumors or not it is something worth discussing because the current GW wont be around forever.
OK, there are pros and cons to all of this.
First of all, none of this imformation has been confirmed by ANet at all. However, Gaile Gray has mentioned that there will be some various serious changes. She has addressed this information and said that some of it is correct, some of it is not, and a lot of the information is misleading.
The best places for official information are the GW website and the magazines being released this next month. The magazines are sure to have a lot of information for answering questions and bringing up new ones. While it seems unlikely that ANet would stop GW after only 4 chapters, there are things to consider. For example, ANet has released info on the new chapter nearly two months after the previous release. It has been over four months since the release of Nightfall. Why is there an information gap?
Probably True: Another edition to GW taking place in the north. The GW timeline of the story refers to a northern region and we know that the Charr came from the north so this is very likely. If this will be an expansion or campaign is not sure. Every other issue is a campaign while an expansion would require a previous version of GW, not introduce any new professions, and cost less than previous installments as the Inquirer report. Also, there will most likely be a GW2 eventually. It would be needed to keep up with competition and technological advances. Hopefully, this would be somewhat connected to GW1 so that it is not abandoned but who knows?
Probably False: GW1 will cease after the next installment. Supposing the inquirer article is true, there would be a 2-3 year gap between the 4th GW installment and GW2. This would badly hurt the community. I assume that there would still be at least minor content updates such as furnace and anguish if not additional expansions.
There is still a lot of information that is unknown. Try some of these websites if you want to see the rumors. I'll let you know anything new that I find.

So Guild Wars 2, some of the changes suggested are no brainers and honestly I would like to see it and would most likely play it. However, I beleive thr rumored realses would be 2010, I would like to see alot more added to the original game (ie. more expansion like NF) and more development in that regards. I still think they are a ways off from the perfect game and would like to see all the little bugs worked out and I would also like to see new features added across all the existing versions out, such as endgame prophecies items. But if they are able to fix these problems I say bring on GW2.
I think a 3 gen. GW 2 would be a smart move in 2010. though the 3 gen games that are coming out seem to not only need new rigs but also high speed internet which is not consistant with the norm in the world at this time . So I wouldn't stop the expansions for GW untell tech. can cache up thats the mane issue i see with making a new GW . But if your going to compete with other game your going to have to figure out a edge in the market some how . I just don't think this is the way !
Do not mistake Indifference for Hate. Nor Kindness for Weakness. for this is the Bane of Judgment !
Are you so sure?
Hm, unfortunately the rumors are true.
Now we can discuss if this is good news or not.
SOME ideas are great - meeting other players outside in a persistent, non-instanced world - and no fee! That's great.
But it seems they also departed from the level 20, no grind and stuff formula, and made it level based for world pvp, while "structured pvp" seems to be like pvp chars nowadays.
Time will tell, they probably do not have much more than ideas at the moment. But what I absolutely hate is...
Sylvari, Asurans - odd, very odd, very very odd races. Very japanophile. Not to my liking. Sigh.
I'll just say I don't like what I read. Guild Wars "to me" was unique. No grind unless you were farming for items and gold, good story lines with in game cut scenes, decent pvp although sometimes it seemed pointless especially in factions. It was one of my favorites, well all 3 of them. Now it seems like it won't be guild wars anymore. Not really anyway. It'll turn into all the other clone rpgs i've played only without a monthly fee, or item mall.
If they want to rework and upgrade the engine, fine! More power to them. But to flip the whole idea of GW upside down in my opinion is a bad move. I admit I was a little skitzo about the level 20 cap. Part of me said that's great, more skill and build based rather then "i played for 7 hours a day for 3 years and I pwn you". Then the other part of me was dissapointed that after you reached level 20 most of the quests were pretty much pointless besides for entertainment and some extra gold. They should of at least kept the skill rewards for quests like in prophecies.
I understand they are trying to cater to players who have beat the campaigns and can't find much to do now, but there has to be other ways to do this. I had great times in GW partying up for the story lines, and doing a little pvp on the side, but now, well, it seems that GW is going to join up with the rest of the mmo's out there. Grind, boring, no point, basically as somebody put it before, the same cake with different icing. Luckly there are a few and I do mean FEW other mmos in develpment that show some promise. But i'll have to wait to see. I still plan on keeping an eye on this though with some hope that maybe they will try to cater to the old school players that like the game, and the people who want more. Personally i'm a bit of both. I like the old school GWs, but there is always room for improvment, and by improvment, I don't mean a whole new game with nothing to do with the other titles, ideas, or mechanics.
