DO you believe there're too many MMORPG coming out this year, or you don't care. My main concern is that, I want to play WoW, EQ2, and GW, but I won't have the time to play it all together at once. The best way to play mmorpg game is to start at the beginning so I can keep up with everyone else, I don't like to start late. I believe those three games will be great in their own ways.

More mmorpg means more competition which is always healthy for the community.
Means they have to make a good game and provide regular updates and good CSR.So personally more the merrier for me.
There is no law that states you must try or play all of them. You can wait for the reviews and pick a game based on the overall reviews for instance .
Starting afresh does not bother me at all.Reason is simple I don't have 100 hrs+ a week to commit to a game. But as we all know many many people do.I been there at launch of UO,EQ.DAoC,AO,horizons,AC2,shadowbane.And before I can even get a couple of levels there is a group of folks that are near maximum in 1 - 3 weeks if not maximum as happened in AC2 in under 2 weeks.
If a game is good you can find loads of newbies around still to play with.Take EQ for instance 2 years into release I made a new character and went to the newbie areas and it was as filled as it was when I levelled my character at launch.Granted now it is probably dead in the newbie areas but you have to remember the game is 5 years old now and has much more newbie areas now then before so folks are diluted.
DAoC.I went back recently and there were still loads of folks in the newbie areas and thats 3 years on!I remember when it was one year old and I decided to change realms had zero problems finding a group as starter dungeons were all filled up.
As for which game I would be playing come end of year I can't really say.EQ2 I will try for sure because I love EQ.WoW I will give a shot too. However,I will only play one of them .Some others I might try if it gets ok reviews.

I am already playing CoH this year. I may or may not play another game this year depending on how they look closer to release, and how long CoH keeps me entertained. More games gives more options which means a better chance of finding one which most fits your play style the best.
One thing that drives me crazy though is the people who will go to a game that doesn't fit them and then complain about it. Like those who go to CoH and complain about the lack of crafting or loot, those who go to any PvE game and complain about the lack of PvP, those who go to a PvP game and complain about the PvP, and those who pick the most expensive game on the market and complain about the price. If one game doesn't fit your needs, don't whine about it and try to get the game changed, pick one of the many other games which surely have that one thing you are looking for.
He's got it right. It is to our advantage when there are many mmorpgs competing with eachother. Makes them push to be better, and lights a fire under there arse to be more helpful in their customer service, keep up with patches and updates, etc.
I voted that there are not too many mmorpgs coming out, and that I would play them all. That doesn't mean I will subscribe to them all and sit at my PC playing 24/7 like a mental patient . . .
I meant that I will certainly try them all out, give them a fare trial to get a good feel for them, and finally pick the one I like best.
More is good. Lots more is even better.
There are not nearly enough options out there yet.
Laying in bed, looking up at the stars, a single thought passed through my head. Where the fuck is my roof?

I think it is great! As many have said here already: "you don't have to play them all" and "competition is a good thing"!
I currently am playing CoH just for a change of pace until WoW and/or EQ 2 come out, which of those I will stick with, who knows. CoH is a nice change for a little while though.
I beta'd L2 and am currently in Ryzom as well. I didn't buy L2, nor do I think I will be buying Ryzom. Both had/have some good stuff going for them, but neither fit the "full bill" for me. Maybe Ryzom will come release, but so far, I don't think so.
I don't think there can be too many MMORPGs for the consumer! Some will die off as there are only so many that people will be willing to pay for on a montly basis, my guess 1 usually and 2 here and there. But the great part is that us players a bunch of options and like others have said "it will probably help force companies to turn out better products with better customer support" and that is exciting!
Beta'd: Neocron, Planetside, ShadowBane, Horizons, City of Heros, Saga of Ryzom, Lineage II, WoW Stress Test
Played: EQ, Shadowbane, DAoC, SWG, Anarchy Online, Asherson's Call 2. Earth and Beyond, City of Heros, EQ
Playing: WAITING FOR WOW and EQ 2
The best way to get this game going for newer players is to either find someone who's high leveled. Or create a group of people that want to try the game and then go from there. 3-4-5+ people in a group.

The bright side of all the great MMORPG's being released this year is that is promotes competition, and each of the companies attempts to raise their level of service to the next level so you, the customer will be treated better. On the downside, I have to make a decision which one I want to play .

I agree wholeheartedly. More games in the marketplace means more competition; which 'should' force the Dev teams to come up with something fresh.
Notice I said 'should'.
Heh! Who among us wouldn't gladly stay with playing just one new game that could really hold our interests for more than a few months?
I'm talking about a non-treadmill leveling system, graphics that are true eye candy - & don't drain lower power comps,
quality customer support & ingame mods, a true real time battle system - without a thousand extra keystrokes to learn, a skill/craft system that's fun to stick with - no matter how high your lvl gets to; & of course... an awesome player community.
Yeah, I know I'm dreaming here. But a lot of games brag about how their game will be the next 'big thing' & how it will forever change how MMORPGs are done.
I'm like a lot of other MMORPG players, these days... still waiting (without holding my breath) for just one dev team/game company to really come through on all their hype.
Do they even exist anymore???
So more is better, if it means that the 'Next Big Thing' really will come along, eventually.
I won't hold my breath... but I will keep looking, just in case.

Personally I think Guild Wars is going to live up to its Hype, I mean so far the Alpha Testers have nothing but excellent comments to spread for the game, and they insist on us that it really is strategy based, guess we will wait and see on May 12th whether it lives up to its hype :P. Course it's not the final product, but it's a taste of it.

The point of competition is to improve quality, and this is not happening in any of the recently released mmorps, so to say that lots of mmorpgs being released will achieve this is just wrong. The only thing the mass of newly released mmorpgs will do is reduce the size of the community in every game. Already most games are running with light of averge server numbers, only the newest games do well because of curiousity value, and it's no good saying you don't care about the new releases because you will only play one game, that might be the game with only 100 peeps on the server.
There are too many mmorpgs coming out, and 99% will be rubbish, but at least one might get a decent player community.None of the current crop of mmorpg's such as coh, swg, lineage 2, horizons, etc have come close to rivalling older games such as eq and daoc.
I can't understand why? devs should have seen what worked and didn't in these older games and implemented the best parts and left out the bad. So why is it non of the new games work?
Coh is a clunky beat em up.....i almost thought i had entered a time warp and been cast back to playing double dragon on a console when i found my scrapper couldn't hit running mobs and i had to be stationary.
Lineage 2 offers nothing at all apart from looking cool.
Swg has taken the route of not even needing you to be at the keyboard to progress. At least you don't miss out on the short english summertime
Or is it me just getting over my addiction to mmorpgs and enjoying real life for a change and not spending 10 hours on daoc??
