I bought the preorder, beta tested, and have cancelled my preorder. I find the game boring. Note, this is my personal feeling about the game. I'm not saying everyone will find it boring, I'm not saying that it's technically unsound (I've beta tested games for over 10 years and this is the most polished, from a technological standpoint, I've ever participated in). I'm not bashing the game, I'm stating my personal preferences, so you assholes who attack everyone who doesn't share your view that LOTRO is the second coming of christ can save your sub-literate chest thumping for someone else.
I don't think anyone (and I am a huge fan of this game) would have anything bad to say about your post (barring the final sentence).
If you look through the negative posts about this game on these boards, you will find that clearly 2/3 of them are outright trolling lies. Not a difference of opinion, not valid concerns, plain and simple lies.
I could care less if someone posts that they don't like the game, I applaud them for finding that out early on, before they invest a lot of time and money. I don't even mind if someone posts "it sucks!" followed by something that they think sucks about it (or followed by nothing at all even). I do get a little pissed about folks who come here and just outright lie though. Things like "This game is totally instanced like GW and DDO". That right there isn't opinion, it's a lie. They aren't even in the same ballpark.. they aren't even the same sport.
You beta tested. You find it boring. You decided not to play it. Who could argue with that?
There was really no need for your final sentence in this post. That is what will draw the flames, not the meat of your post.
I wish you the best in whatever game you are playing.

A lot of people could take a lesson from your response. Clearly, your response (mature, level headed, and polite) wasn't the type I was referring too. I'm talking about posters like JackDawg, Solareus, or JonMichael who rear their faboi heads in every thread and shout down anyone with a dissenting opinion as "trolls" or worse. The same ones that make accusations that any differing opinon from theirs is the result of some vast wow/vanguard fanboi conspiracy. I'm not Illumnati .
Been testing this game for what feels like forever now lol, yes I preordered, but nope, not gonna do the lifetime subscription. Too many things coming down the pike this year like Tabula Rasa (as an old UO beta tester and player/pk I have to see what senior Lord British is bringing to the table.). Of course, not to mention Hero's Journey, Age of Conan and Warhammer Online lol.
What Turbine has done with Lord of the Rings Online is publish a very sound entertaining game. There isn't a whole lot of innovation and its all the same gameplay mechanics that I have been playing for what seems like forever. But, with that said, they have made a game that is, in respect to other recent releases, a very bug free game and a fun game.
Yes, Turbine had me at "welcome to LOTRO beta" apparently. My sole purpose in life now is convincing my friends that still cling to WoW to move on and play this with me
I just got into the beta [and found someone else used my name?! I thought at least my spelling was unique] and it is very pretty, though it seems too easy for the first 5 or so levels <for a minstrel, anyway> never even close to dead/never less than 1/2 morale. I imagine that it gets tougher...
I'm thinking about pre-ordering - I already like it that much - Does anyone know when the Pre-order ends? Is it on Launch day or Open beta day? [24 April vs 30 Mar, IIRC] Nasty Mr VISA is already owed too much to make another $250 charge this month
closed beta wipe ? 29 March, all log-in accounts and beta chars get wiped.
pay to play beta 30 march (new turbine billing accts and pre order beta key req, founders get to carry over up to five chars per server into retail, thus saving names) What will happen is you'll enter your retail product key when you receive it, and choose your payment method at that time. Your subscription will be upgraded from Pre-order to Retail, and you'll continue to have access to the game and your characters.

beta shutdown 24 April 2007.
retail-live 24 april, $9.99 monthly or $199 lifetime subscription.
...edit besides, Whamer & Conan don't retail till nov or dec, so, lotr will do for 6 months till then.
I don't play a game to play a check list. The elusive element of fun can be greater or lesser than the sum of the features list.
LotRO is fun. If you must have an innovative feature, the use of instancing for key quests (as well as the usual dungeons, etc.) is new, and is very effectively used. The quest for leaving Archet (hobbit/man starting area) was probably the most memorable I've encountered in any game since Diablo II. ( And I was young and impressionable then. )
I betad for a long time but I found this game very lacking, and I'm a huge LOTR fan. Just not enough for me, too easy and nothing new. Just my opinion though so I won't be pre-ordering.
"God, please help us sinful children of Ivalice.."
Here in Norway I haven't yet found any shop/webshop who offers pre-ordering LOTRO. So if I wanted to pre-order, I would have to import it. With VAT and other fees it will simply be too expensive for a game I don't even know if I will like.
I probably gonna pre-order it havn't decide yet tho. Does anyone know if you will get like free month or so? If not well i would be really glad if someone could lend me their beta account so i could try the game for a few hours or so before i make up my mind about pre-ordering it or not

Depends if you buy the normal or special edition.Think you get 45 days with the special and 30 with the normal version
One thing I like about all these Trollers ,flamers and WOW fanboy kidies, Its nice to see how many of these pricks wont be playing it !! So we should have a nice freindly mature community

Look.. they are fanning the flames! (in lieu of being mad that there is no Beer-clanking smilies to show my absolute agreement).
But seriously.. Yeah.. I think apart from myself we will have a great, mature community =P
yes I am excited about this game big time. after playing WOW to death and finishing up in EVE I need my MMO fix. This game looks great and I can't wait for the Open beta to start.

When my friends said they would all buy it, I made my mind up.
I have to give a disclaimer to all my friends about LOTRO, I still feel that it is boring.

No pre order for me, but will keep an eye on what is added in expansions etc
Been in beta since September and find LOTRO to be a stable, fun but ultimately unfulfilling MMO.
Just can't face starting again and re-doing all those quests.
