On one hand, I like the DC universe, but I HATE SOE right now. They made me call them to cancel my subscription to vanguard. Seems there is a known flaw with the system not taking cancellations and they know about it. They don't seem to be hurrying to fix it either.
On the other hand, I like the Marvel universe and LOVE the RPG (now not supported). The Ultimate Powers Book is still an awesome treatise on super powers. But... I dislike Stan Lee immensely and wouldn't want him to see another dollar. He is an arrogant wanker.
And, I dislike miker$of with a passion. I won't touch anything they put their mark on, so if they're involved, I'm not.
Additionally, I remember someone posting some notes from the marvel game announcement and it stated that cryptic was developing it for the eksbokz and vista, not miker$of winderz. This leads me to believe that it is going to include Direct X 10, also known as "gamers by vista or else".
I won't be loading vista on any of my PCs for at least 2 years. Even then I might not. So, unless someone hacks direct x 10 to run on XP or they decide not to use direct x 10, then I'll be out in that instance.
CoH / CoV I'm playing now. I like it, but as others have mentioned there isn't much to it. I'd definitely label it mmorpg lite. It is extremely fun to play off and on though.
If only they'd fix the character power system to be more flexible I'd be thrilled. Add some random missions with a considerable amount of flexibility and I'd be overjoyed. Put in a marvel super heroes (RPG) ultimate power type generation and I'd pass out.
So, I guess my vote at this point would have to be CoX if they innovate to compete with the Marvel and DC games.
I doubt you'll see CoH/V get developed to compete with Marvel Universe. I suspect there's a no competition agreement between Cryptic and Marvel. Features that you want to see in CoH/V will probably go into the Marvel game.
