When it is polished, polish it some more.(Honestly, ask yourself, do you really think Brad and everyone else wanted to send the game out in its current condition? Do you really? (There is no way to do this in a level based game, I wish too that VG was all skill based but sadly it is levels, and I accept that, you want a skill based game go check out SWg...wait nope cant do that, Thank WoW for that one too) Start small. 1) I think 1 is inaccurate. No validity/purpose.
2) I agree. They shouldn't have re-vamped the game... what was it..... 3 times? This is their fault, and they should be accountable for it's pathetic performance.
3) Vanguard is the most tedious MMO I've ever played, in all honesty. A close second is Asheron's Call 2.
4) Not sure what he's talking about...Warhammer isn't out yet.
5) Boats don't work, flying mounts are meh. I agree with this; they bit off more than they could chew to try and impress people with flare, but fell far short of the bar.
6) I agree. This is 2007, let's get with the times.
7) This game has zero innovation. Boats are broken, Diplomacy was called "Magic the Gathering" a few years ago, flying mounts are present in other games, player housing is not a new feature by any means, 15 classes which have absolutely ZERO originality, the races are re-hashes of each other (multiple elf races, multiple human races, multiple barbarians, etc etc.) Don't give the game credit where it's not due.
8) You're actually wrong here jiveturkey. In FFXI, you could get this thing called a "Golden World Pass", which would give you and a friend a piece of equipment. You could activate it, and it would lower you to a certain level to play with your friend. In other words, let's say a 40 and a 10 wanted to play together; simply have the 40 activate his helmet, and he temporarily becomes level 10, and can exp with his friend.
9) I agree again. Overachieiving is always preferable to underachieving. Smaller, more complete games are much more preferred over large, empty, broken ones.
To clarify point #1, they need to put in place mechanisms to make grouping faster. I should be able to login and get a group within 15 minutes and not have to spend 30 minutes traveling to a group. Casual does not mean solo. Soloing is boring as hell. However, put in meeting stones, summoning capability, limited instancing, double bonus grouping XP, etc to make grouping quick and less painful. As it stands you need a substantial amount of time to get in a group and get going.
To clarify point #4, I meant to be aware of your launch dates. Vanguard launched at the same time as the 800 lb gorilla WoW-BC. The 800lb gorilla this year will be Warhammer. If a game company is bringing out a game this year do not launch with Warhammer the same way no one should launch with anything associated with WoW.
To clarify point #8, EQ2 implemented mentoring whereby you could play with different level characters.
To clarify point #9 they should have started with 1 continent and worked on getting the game mechanic solid and filter people to one place. Then open other areas after the gameplay base and player base is solid. The core mechanics in the game are broken. They can fix the game but they do not have a solid foundation. Software development is just like a house, you need a solid foundation. I don't write code for games but I write business software and I can not imagine that it is that much different.
Why do you guys want to change the game? Are you so frustrated with MMO right now that you want VG to fullfil your needs or you wanted to like VG so bad that you want to to make it more casual (ala LOTRO) so you can play? The game mechanics (basic ones) been there for so long that you guys knew what to expect. Right? Bad decisions or not, you guys knew what to expect and decided to not accept it.
And don't give the impression to people that they broke promises. FAQs aren't bibles. It was clearly stated (by those who actually wanted to see it) that NOTHING WAS SET IN STONE. It's the same for all MMOs.
Allow people to play together whether or not they are level 10 or level 40 somehow. (There is no way to do this in a level based game, I wish too that VG was all skill based but sadly it is levels, and I accept that, you want a skill based game go check out SWg...wait nope cant do that, Thank WoW for that one too)

Another pair of level based games that allow for this are City of Heroes/Villains.
A higher level player can take a lower level player as a Sidekick (for heroes), or a Lackey (for villains), and they can do missions together. The lower level player will be artificially raised to one level below their mentor. For example, if a level 17 player sidekicks a level 11 friend, that person will be fighting at level 16 for the duration of their time together while keeping their current abilities (i.e., they won't gain any more powers, but the ones they do have will work at that artificial level). However, there are a few restrictions:
1. The two players have to be at least three levels apart. So yes, a Level 50 could, in theory, sidekick a Level 1, but a Level 11 can't sidekick a Level 10, since they're too close together.
2. The lower level player will gain experience and money appropriate for their level. So while a Level 50 could sidekick a Level 1, that Level 1 player isn't going to be making thousands of influence/infamy or gaining thousands of XP per kill like the level 50. They're going to earn what they would normally get on their own.
3. There's a distance limit of 200 yards, I believe. If the lower level player gets too far away, they immediately drop back down to their natural level. This prevents people from simply parking a Level 1 in a safe spot while that Level 50 does all the work. They've got to be right beside that other player for it to take effect.
4. The lower level player isn't going to be able to get into any level-restricted zones they would otherwise be prevented from entering. The zones read your original level, not any artificial boosts from Sidekicking.
There's also a level restriction, but that's a standard game mechanic across the board. A Level 39 adventuring with a Level 50 isn't going to gain any XP (or even be able to hit the mobs that are being fought) on their own because they're too far apart, so the 50 would have to SK the 39. This means that a Level 1 isn't going to get any XP from a Level 50 on their own because they're too far apart. Of course, there are ways around the level restriction, but the basic system tries to prevent PL'ing by imposing the level limits.
By the same token, it's also possible for high level players to artificially lower their levels by becoming an Exemplar (for heroes) or Malefactor (for villains). A player that has a lot of XP debt to clear, or who needs cash, and who wants to hang out with some lower level friends would find this attractive.
While Exemplared, the higher level player is dropped down to the level of the lower one, losing access to any powers and abilities they would otherwise have (i.e., a level 50 who Exemplars to a level 20 would only be able to use whatever powers they had by level 20, and nothing else), but the uspide for this is that at the same time, any experience gained goes 100% towards debt payment. Once all of the XP debt is paid off, you would earn 200% of the money you'd normally get instead. Unlike the Sidekick system, though, there isn't a distance limit. As long as you're Exemplared down, it doesn't matter where you are in the zone. The effects remain.
It's not a perfect system, but in the CoH/CoV games, they try to make it really easy for players at different levels to play together, which makes it easier for friends to get together.

I beta tested LOTRO since it opened and the skill system is far from complex. You DO press a couple of buttons, it is the same as previous MMO's because that is how they inteded it. As a hardcore gamer I can tell you the crafting is for casuals, the level grind is for casuals. They take pride in knowing that you can get a ton done in two hours time. Also, as the game is still in a beta stage you hurt your validity claiming to have learned everything in it. Unless you have characters as level 50 I doubt it. I played the beta up until about a month ago and since I have been beta testing other games, I gave my account away to somebody on Gamefaqs.com that had a level 39 and a level 37. It is a good beta and will likely be a good game, but it is not satisfying the hardcore hunger side of me.
On the system being more complex you know what my loremaster does? Send the pet in to tank, wait three seconds and cast two spells, wait another couple of seconds and heal pet. Sounds tough right?

Dude , System uses combination skill system, it also levels skills the more you use them.
Vanguard system was like Lineage 2 .
Learning everything = Seeing the effects leveling my skill havem, seeing the trait system attributed effects, learing how the skill combo system function, so yeah , I haven't Learned it all but learned enough to understand the system and see what it can do.
I played 20 levels of vanguard , and it was nothing but hack and slash , skill button spam.
The combination system is similar to FFXI. You use a move, then I do, then somebody else does one, and then somebody else caps it off and a special effect happens along with a stun or damage. It is not new.

Wrong , You are talking about the Conjuction system . Skill combination is this, if I doe a shield stun , my shield smash skill is now avaible. I can't do certain skills until something else activates it.
Vanguard has moves like that as well, where you can only access them if something is done during battle. Certain skills open up others, health % opens up others, and some classes have special traits about them, like the Blood Mage, who becomes a better healer with the more blood union that is used on the mob.
I know it seems like I am picking on you, but you have amazing ideas for games, it is just extremely hard to put all that into a game that thousands of people can play at once.
Again your concepts and ideas have been awesome, it is putting them into a game considering where we are in MMOs and how most developers want to go with proven things rather than revolutionize MMOs.

The problem me and a lot of "sad people" is this, we where lead to believe this game was the revolution.
Thank you for you compliments, and I feel with the quad core technology , these type of ideas I listed will become a reality.
Ahh, see I was deep into WoW, FFXI, and SWG but recently just dropped all three for different reasons but I never read much on the Vanguard hype. I read about it about a month ago and already read most of the reviews that claimed it to be bad but since I was just on a trial account it didn't bother me. I got hooked for about a three week period but now it is starting to slow down and I honestly went from playing it 5 hours a night down to 3 hours one day and not play it for a couple more.
I agree unless something drastic changes or they get a lot of the kinks out, Vanguard will be like it is now, I just had to see where you were coming from with your points of view.
9. Start small. Make it great and then release expansions.
Sure. So the people who will have grinded in 1 or 2 weeks to the end of their small world will be sitting there without anything else to do. So they will come back in masses to Vanguard's huge world which will have improved by then.
As important as that type of player tends to think of themselves, that kind of 'content devouring' player is in the minority. Any game that tries to cater to the player with no life who can play 8-12 hours a day, can never keep up, nor should they even try.

Do you work for Sigil? You sure sound like it. I don't care if Brad didn't want to release it now or some crap: as a customer I expect quality out of the box OK. It's just bullshit the game was released as it was. Secondly, the point is the game is not supposed to feel like work: its supposed to be fun - if doing unimaginative grinding all day is your idea of fun can't help you there. (You even admitted it feels tedious I guess you're payed for the box and the monthly fee and are in denial of its horridness, maybe, can't blame ya.) It's not the grinding itself; its how its presented and VG did a really bad job of it. Thirdly, WoW does have flying mounts you can purchase. Granted, it can only be used in Outlands but its there. 16 races do not hide the craptasticness of the game. The races don't feel unique to each other half of them are just humans with animal heads stuck on them with the exact same animations.
Hey guess what?! THERE HAS TO BE SOME TYPE OF WORK! seriously what do you people want? a game where everything just gets handed to you? where you just get to have fun all the time and never have to worry about death or corpse runs or anything. You know what thats called? thats called animal crossing online. Is that what you want? to run around in a safe nitch town all the time with no fear of anything but tom nook collecting taxes at the end of the month. Then fine go make it, go play it.

o yea and to the guy that said the thing about FFXI your an idiot because thats not the type of gameplay hes talking about. He talking about a game where you are not bound by your levels. Not that you can put on your gold helm and play with someone lower level and help then get exp while you gain nothing. I could do that anyways, it just wouldnt give the other player as much exp in a normal game witout the gold helm.
I really wanted this game to work. But after several weeks its clear that this game is still in beta and should never have been released so early. Even the devs admit it.
Many of the features the vanbois rave about are bogus.
Seamless World? - well yes if you can call chugging performance when your client stalls constantly whilst loading seamless.
Crafting? sure, have you got dozens of hours to spend levelling your skill up so that you can make something useful?
Diplomacy? A nice touch, really, cept it is pointless. yes thats right diplomacy gives crappy buffs
PVP? yes there are pvp servers - but guess what the devs have said that pvp isnt their main priority and probably wont be addressed for around 6 months. Course you can still pvp now just its full of bugs and many spells/debuffs wont work in pvp.
Class Balance? well this changes weekly - expect your class to be uber/gimped one week then the opposite end of the spectrum the next.
Sadly I didnt listen to the warnings and bought the game. Still it can only get better cant it? After all the devs have said they are working to fix the problems - they wouldnt lie to us would they?
Hmm - if the client is this buggy/laggy now and they still need to add lots of content?
Dont think I need to elaborate on the above. its such a shame that I can get 25-30 FPS whilst outdoors and alone and when a single PC shows up the game has a seizure.
Vanguard looks beautiful and has lots of potential - but how often have we heard that before?
Until the performance is fixed I wont be back. And about that im sorry because it seems the game had so much to offer ...
Yes, you should not be able to craft "uber" gear within the first weeks of launch.
Diplomacy buffs pointless? You can get some really sweet buffs from that, makes it seem like you are scoring it even though you don;t know what it is capable of.

again if you have to put many many hours into crafting (plus of course adventuring) it makes for an insane grind.
Are the diplomacy buffs worth the many hours that you have to put into raising your dimplomacy skill?
Diplomacy is a nice feature but I think it should be more of an alternative path to adventuring rather than a side path that leads no where.
The devs have stated that they want Vanguard to be casual friendly - but how could someone with 1-2 hrs a night free be able to level their crafting/diplomacy and adventuring skills?
What im saying is that both crafting and diplomacy are not worth the time that has to be put into them

The stuff you can craft at the beginning is useful, it just isn't swords and shields and bows right off the bat. Casual crafting and diplomacy can make you money so that you can buy better gear off the broker.
This is how casuals can get gear to grind with, casuals can enjoy the game. The good part of this game though is that it rewards the players who have more time to play. Which is how it should be.
Obviously as a casual you will get there slower than others, but to call crafting or diplomacy useless is borderline. If you don't have the time to put into the game, then you should not be able to craft the best stuff, and diplomacy one you reach a certain level gives amazing zone based buffs that help adventuring, diplomacy, and crafting.
You are mad because you can create arrows and such, but not full fledged weapons, full suites of armor. You aren't supposed to.

That may be so - but I'm just stating how things look from a casual player's perspective. Im sure there are many other people who feel like I do about the game.
Indeed the game designers have stated that they are concerned about the game being pidgeon-holed as a hardcore game.
I think there are areas of the game that could be improved in respect of this - espicially in the lower levels.
Of course any who puts in more hours will have an advantage - thats true of any mmo. But Vanguard cant say they want it to be for casual gamers and then not put in any features for the casual gamer.
The reason so many more people will play LOTRO (not for the record because it is a better game, LOTRO is much more constricted and spoonfed) is because of performance issues and also the fact that it is more casual friendly.
I say again that I would love to see vanguard work - but the problem is this game was supposed to be released in 6 months time when new pc's would have no problem coping with it.
I just think its a shame that the designers have rushed this game out and dont seem to have the answers to fix the problems.

Not hours... It's a group game. The more that work on it, the faster it will go. Work with people. It's a MMO after all!
Diplomacy is a nice feature but I think it should be more of an alternative path to adventuring rather than a side path that leads no where.
It's a sidepath that leads to more adventuring quests. Only the high end diplomat will be able to receive quests from kings and queens.

By playing 1-2 a night. Doing quests with their guild/casual friend or crafting/dip when they are not online
What im saying is that both crafting and diplomacy are not worth the time that has to be put into them
They are. I do money as a lvl 13 armorsmith. Diplomacy is a nice story telling game and at some point, you even get diplomacy mission (not the lever thingy) from other town.
I agree with the thread title, mainly because even if VSoH does fufil it's "potential" it will be too late because of the new and exciting mmos to be released.
There will still be subscribers left but certainly not many.

Are you kidding me? Seriously can you honestly have just said " Nicely put you made alot of good points let's hope the companies of those games read these forums"
Are you actually Tnice? or are You just some Troll and use two accounts to make yourself look better? because everything that he just said is ******* retarded, want me to go through the list?
Make the game fun for regular people not just Geeks in a basement playing 20 hours/day.(ok lets see here, well I have a level 14 Dread Knight, and i only go on for a few hours a night go through a few dungeons, talk on Ventrillo, hang out, etc. and I seem to have leveled through it just fine, I also in the time I was getting to level 19: Went to a Ballgame, Slept with my girlfriend, Worked 4 days a week, Went to school, and watched new episodes of LOST on TV. Just to name the most important things not in that order.) Polish it. When it is polished, polish it some more.(Honestly, ask yourself, do you really think Brad and everyone else wanted to send the game out in its current condition? Do you really? Yea cause im sure when you spend 5 years of your life doing something and working hard on it everyday, you just decide to half ass it, towards the end like a ******* high school project and say" **** this **** **** im ******* done! ) Remove tedium.(See this really ticks me off, Tedium? are you serious, Everything in life has some sort of work involved buddy, everything, when i wake up and go to work, thats tedium, but then at the end of the night i get to go home, chill, hang with girlfriends and friends, and relax. Now take that concept and think VANGUARD, yea I have to work my ass off in vanguard to gain a few levels, ill admit that, its tedious, work, it can be dull sometimes but for the most part its fun stuff. The extra levels i gain allow me to go back to that guy "Hogar" that ganked me earlier on in the week, and kill him. I also get to equip new gear, travel to new and interesting places, get new skills to kill bigger better monsters, etc. What the fuck else are you ever going to do in a MMO when you level up? What do you want to be able to do? tell me cause i really want to know. Do not launch at the same time as Warhammer.(No comment here, seeing as anyone who looks at the front page can see that Warhammer is obviously not out.) Do not set expectation too high. Boats and grifs my arse. Maybe in 4 years of grinding.(You can buy a boat at any level nuff said and what the **** did you mean griffon? ) Learn from prior games. Do not bring back old concepts that were painful the first time. (Listen I understand everquest is old, but you know whats funny, if Brad had not been removed from the game development people would probably still be playing it. So in turn he created vanguard, Yea its EQ2, the real EQ2, maybe people just think its supposed to be WoW 2 and when they play it and its not like WoW they are dissapointed or some *** **** like that.) Be innovative. Do not just repackage the same game with new graphics. (The game has flying mounts anywhere in game, WoW does not have that, the only game that has real 3-d flying is Flyff, if you want Flyff go play it. The game aslo has boats, player housing, 16 races and 15 classes, Diplomacy, and a slew of other features.Just because the game lets you find these features on your own, does not mean it lacks inovation.) Allow people to play together whether or not they are level 10 or level 40 somehow. (There is no way to do this in a level based game, I wish too that VG was all skill based but sadly it is levels, and I accept that, you want a skill based game go check out SWg...wait nope cant do that, Thank WoW for that one too) Start small. Make it great and then release expansions. (How about instead they dont do that, seriously I cant even ******* comment on this huge puke of **** less ****, this makes me wanna puke ****)

I love how Jive starts off calm and edits his own curse words under point number 1 but then under point 3 he gets fired up and gives us the F-word! He then clams down and goes back to editing his curse words in point 5 and 9.

But, i'm having fun. It's still funny how people want the players to dislike the game....
eqnext.wikia.com

Dude , System uses combination skill system, it also levels skills the more you use them.Vanguard system was like Lineage 2 .

As important as that type of player tends to think of themselves, that kind of 'content devouring' player is in the minority. Any game that tries to cater to the player with no life who can play 8-12 hours a day, can never keep up, nor should they even try.
-jive
o yea and to the guy that said the thing about FFXI your an idiot because thats not the type of gameplay hes talking about. He talking about a game where you are not bound by your levels. Not that you can put on your gold helm and play with someone lower level and help then get exp while you gain nothing. I could do that anyways, it just wouldnt give the other player as much exp in a normal game witout the gold helm.

Im sure there are many other people who feel like I do about the game.Indeed the game designers have stated that they are concerned about the game being pidgeon-holed as a hardcore game.

It's a sidepath that leads to more adventuring quests. Only the high end diplomat will be able to receive quests from kings and queens.

By playing 1-2 a night. Doing quests with their guild/casual friend or crafting/dip when they are not online

I love how Jive starts off calm and edits his own curse words under point number 1 but then under point 3 he gets fired up and gives us the F-word! He then clams down and goes back to editing his curse words in point 5 and 9.
