SOE announced today from the E3 show that they will soon be introducing price reductions on some of their expansions as well as a new one year plan that will include all 7 expansions for one price. Here is the official press release:
LOS ANGELES, CA - May 12 2004 - Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online gaming, today announced new pricing for its three most recent EverQuest® expansions. Additionally, EverQuest fans will soon be able to purchase a one year subscription to the game and download all seven current expansions for the low price of $119.95.
Beginning today, players will be able to purchase the three most recent EverQuest expansions, EverQuest: Legacy of Ykesha&, EverQuest: Lost Dungeons of Norrath and EverQuest: Gates of Discord at newly reduced prices. Ykesha suggested retail price will be $14.99, while Lost Dungeons of Norrath and Gates of Discord will each carry a suggested retail price and digital download price of $19.99. All three products can be purchased either via digital download from Sony Online Entertainment or at retail.
Sony Online Entertainment has also announced plans to add a new incentive program for all new one year subscriptions to EverQuest. Starting soon, EverQuest players who purchase a full year subscription to the game will be able to download all seven expansions for the game (from the first expansion EverQuest: Ruins of Kunark®, through the most recently released, EverQuest: Gates of Discord) directly from SOE for no additional cost. Soon, one year subscribers will need only the original EverQuest game to access the thousands of hours of gameplay found within the enormous 3D fantasy world of EverQuest.

Was figuring this had to happen pre-WoW and pre-EQ 2. Get that money while SoE can hehe
Sounds like some great deals for those wanting to continue with Everquest. I know I just posted/linked this info to my old guild.
Beta'd: Neocron, Planetside, ShadowBane, Horizons, City of Heros, Saga of Ryzom, Lineage II, WoW Stress Test
Played: EQ, Shadowbane, DAoC, SWG, Anarchy Online, Asherson's Call 2. Earth and Beyond, City of Heros, EQ
Playing: WAITING FOR WOW and EQ 2

Hmm, lets see: $119.95 for one video game made more than five years ago and a one year subscription with no money back guarantee. It bothers me how some corporate companies attempt to squeeze every cent out of people and do it so bluntly it's accepted as a comonality. GG SOE, gg.
It's a great deal since it basically gives you the game and all the expansions minus Omens of War for free compared to paying an additional 60-80$ for them all. Even if it's getting old, there is still more content than all other mmorpgs by far and they are retooling the graphics with updated ones. Consideration should however be made to open a new non caracter transfer server for people who get this deal since starting out on a well established server from nothing is a chore as everyone you meet is an alt with hundreds of thousands in gear even at level 1.
It however does not remain a very good deal for those planning on getting the all access pass which gives you both EQ and EQ2 (with the other SoE games) for 21.95$ or whatever the price is since you will then be forced to play for both games.

This is no worse than when kraft said they where decreased the amount of all products and then increased prices on all products because they were "concerned to many americans where over weight"
That was much more blatant, companies will cash on anything. I'm not saying this a correct or not, but it's just something you need to aware of. Companies only exsist for one reason, to make money. You wouldn't work for free.
For those that want to play EQ for the next it may not be a bad deal, but we all know that EQ is fading, and it's successor, EQ2 is just around the corner.
Wouldn't it suck to buy a year of a game, then have all your in-game friends leave for something new 2 months into the year you just bought?

This deal will appeal mostly to those intrested in a second or 3rd account. Here is a chance to get all the expansions in a go and get 1 yr paid off .Considering it will cost more to get a sub for a year only on that account its a sweet deal. And they don't even need to download the game just punch in the keys and load the expansions from their CDs.
I doubt many who are new to the game would take this offer.Or that it will bring back many old players to it.
But from all i seen SoE do in the last 1 year it has been geared into keeping the 500,000 in EQ to stay on in EQ and not go to EQ2.EQ2 is mainly meant for the retired players and new ones or at least thats what SoE wants.
I remember when EQ2 was announced nearly every single EQ player that posted on EQ forums said they would not move unless their characters move with them ,which of course is not gonna happen.
Also i see many companies are going the way of download and buy the key online now.Fact is this is the best way to go .CoH has started selling keys and download online (and they are certainly not doing bad in sales at all).AC1 is doing it.It encourages folks to buy the game without having to wait fo the postman or go to the shop and most importantly it has broken the barrier of international players not been able to play because they have to import the game.
So hopefully this trend will continue with not only EQ,CoH,AC or the others doing it but will become a norm.
