What I would love to see is a FFA Pvp server ala Mordred/Andred in DAOC...but these didn't fair well in terms of popularity so I suspect Mythic will pass on creating one this time around. Mythic really seems to have taken to heart the lessons (good and bad) that they learned from DAOC and are making sure WAR benefits from this knowledge....
As far as all the hatred against role players I think its mis-guided.... most RPG guilds just want you to stay in character in the game...don't bring stuff from outside the game into chats/discussion.... they don't require you to make up lore or talk in olde- English...(though some folks certainly do)
Most fun I ever had in DAOC was roleplaying in an all-kobold guild called Shadowclan on the FFA pvp server..... had our own language and everything.... sure ...we were called weird...just before we zerged our opponents to death

Roleplayers are pretty much the same as any other group. The vast majority just do their thing, and leave it at that. Sadly, there's always that vocal minority that make everyone hate the rest. There was a lot of them types on the SWG forums back in the day arguing that anyone that didn't follow their personal vision of what is and isn't roleplaying should be burned at the stake. And of course there was the usual griping about 'kiddies' and how more mature they were than everyone else, pay no heed to the immature generalizations and name calling in their posts.
The ones that see RP as an excuse to do some sort of funky cybersex thing don't help the rather dim view of roleplayers either.

What side are you going to play? We need to roll on the same team when the game launches and smash heads.
No. Let people play how they want to. If they want to do nothing but PvE, so be it. Until you pay their monthly subscription, let them fight mobs all day long. Every single one of your examples are examples of PvE. Lara Croft? Yeah, the boss she fought was computer controlled. So was Bowser and Ganon. I fail to see your point with those examples.
Link fighting Ganon is much akin to your guild beating Ragnaros or Nefarian in WoW. PvP was the core of what DAoC was about until ToA was released and forced PvE content to be able to compete in PvP. Mythic saw this mistake and while it was too late to rectify it, they did allow for Classic Ruleset servers. I doubt they will make that mistake again.
But forcing someone to PvP when all they want to do is bash in some monsters is their prerogative. You can't force anyone to do anything. If you do, you lose subscriptions as a result.
Link fighting Ganon is not similar to Ragnaros.
Link fighting the boss of the water temple is similar to Ragnaros. Why? Because the main conflict of the Zelda is saving the princess. The main conflict (I thought) in WoW was the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance for control of Azeroth (and Outland). Link only fights the water temple guy because it gets him closer to the main conflict. I always envisioned killing Rag as a way to gear up and take control of Azeroth, not just to put him on farm and stand in IF gloating.
I know I voted but do we even think there will be such thing as a PvE server? I think the way they are setting up the zones it wont really be much of a difference between PvP and PvE. They should just offer pve content on the side and still focus the game on pvp.
Edit: There will be crafting. In fact, it's a system that they're saying will be revolutionary rather than evolutionary (something they don't claim often). They've been keeping a pretty tight lid on it, aside from saying that it will focus completely on the war effort (the manufacturing, repair, enhancement and improving of weapons, arms and equipment) and that it will keep the warhammer setting in mind (no Orc herbalists skipping around collecting flowers - if Orcs end up making potions and salves, they'll do it with the meat and bones of dead animals and opponents).
Ooh, that word "revolutionary" peeked my interest. I'm a crafting addict at heart, and it's one aspect I like every game to have. If you were to ask me what I thought of Vanguard, I'd say, "that game sucks in every way, but the crafting was awesome."
Now I'm desperate for some real information on WAR's crafting system. Argh, waiting is the hardest part of game development!
Seriously. It's Are'el. This forum doesn't allow apostrophes in usernames.
Please force everyone to PvP. We've seen too many games which allow players to spend their whole careers grinding mobs which offer no real challenge. This idea of "advancement" allows players to gain money, items, and levels without ever creating a challenge which gives the player the ability to gain skill. I don't want Carebears on my team.
No other game gives players the option to beat the game without facing the bosses. Lara Croft never got by with the treasure without fighting the giant statue. Link never got the princess without facing Ganon. Mario (although he did run under him) had to face Bowser to find out the Princess was in another castle. I want to fight the real problem, and I don't want to see Humans and Dwarfs standing on a line of PvP/PvE laughing and /dancing.
But I digress. I am a "carebear". I have never rolled a character past 20 on a PvP server in any other game, and I never will (until WAR). Most games create PvP content as an addon when PvE is polished. This creates elements of unfairness that do not make a game fun. WoW, for example, offers no real incentive to world PVP(besides some pretty lame World PVP Outland objectives that still require PvE grinding), and therefore there are only drawbacks. I think WAR is going to try and push the envelope by creating a fun PvP environment beside the PvE in order to drive the game as a whole. I think having a war effort constantly going is a great idea, and has actual rewards rather than gloating rights and ganking.
In short, I would like to see an MMORPG (warhammer specifically) create a game which makes PvP a fluid part of gameplay, rather than a game based on PvE and inserts and PvP game in order to tackle a niche crowd that is never appeased. I think Warhammer is going to pull it off.
Also, here's a question.
If you watched the videos he said that you get Much more exp from pvp then pve so it will be thier loss.

Really? I remember hearing that pvp would give as much xp but more? Wow thats cool, i need to go listen to those again.
Even the Spartans had non-combatants in the form of older men and children. Whoever argues that every member of a war society is a combatant needs to do some reading. There will always be non-combatant players.
And then among the combatants you will have those who fight at every chance they get because the game mechanics allow it, and then those that want some reason to draw their weapon. It's the diversity of the community that causes conflict on top of what the game provides in terms of factional objectives.
Just like the OP tells the carebears to not play WAR, I like to tell the fraggers to go back to FPS games where only the kill count matters.

Like I said, pretty tight lid. The only thing I could add is that the system is in Mark Jacob's own hands - it's something that he's designing personally. Should be interesting to see what he has in mind.

Man this topic gets old quick lol.For the people crying out for more PVE what part of Paul Barnett's pop casts dont you understand?WAR is a RVR-PVP-PVE MMORPG in that order.Yes there will be PVE but its NOT the main aim of the game.
People can PVE all the way but they will miss out on top items from CITY RAIDS and PVE is ONLY 20% of the END-GAME 80% is RVR-PVP so that should tell you something.
You are NEVER going to change that so all these people coming to WAR trying to get there ultimate PVE experience ARE WASTING THERE TIME.Top raid bosses in WAR CAN be taken down by a group of 10 player or even less.
Paul Barnett has already stated that if you love more PVE than PVP WAR will not be the game for you. They DONT have to appeal to everybody and believe me when i say there are at least 2million people out there WHO have PLYED WARHAMMER TT or are still playing it.Now that does not include the 500000 people who play DAOC so you PVE moaners really dont make a blind bit of difference and MYTHIC could not care less if you stick to WOW-VANGUARD-LOTR-EQ2- as these are all PVE games.
You cant get it unless you PVP in City Raids, what you gonna do CRY into your nappy and complain to MYTHIC.."no fare i only like PVE so how can i get this staff if its only through PVP city loot" lol unlucky go PVP.Noob PVES GIVE ME THE FUCKING HUMP

I think you're making some wrong assumptions. PvP isn't 80% of the endgame content. The Tier 4 zones are 80% PvP by the area of the zone, not by content. There are 3 end-game PvE dungeons, and 1 RvR dungeon. And at the same time as people will miss out on City Raid items if they PvE, those people that only PvP will miss out on PvE items.
It was stated in the podcast about zone control that the best way to level through the game is a mixture of both PvP and PvE. That you could do either/or, but it wouldn't be the most efficient.
Also I don't think you can say it's in the RvR-PvP-PvE order, since RvR includes PvP and PvE. The order is simply RvR-RvR-RvR. I personally am looking forward to the PvE. Travelling through Night Goblin caves, and fighting against Teclis, and perhaps Luthor Huss as was mentioned lately. I'm looking forward also to the PvP, but I think to say this game is ONLY going to be about PvP is very misleading to people that don't know much about the game or the IP.
If they made a Warhammer MMOG and didn't have any PvE then you'd be missing out on a whole lot of lore. Khorne, Beastmen, Wood Elves, Tomb Kings, Vampires, Skaven, all have been mentioned or shown as concept art as NPCs in the game.

Hmm to the person above me,which part of my post did`nt you understand.I did`nt say this mmorpg is only PVP so you got that wrong.Like i said THERE IS PVE in this game but have know doubt that RVR-PVP COMES FIRST.PVE comes second in this mmorpg and if you have really watched the pop cast you would know this.
Ofcorse your going to see all the classic places from the WARHAMMER world and like you i cant wait but people need to get it through there SKULLS that this MMORPG will always put RVR-PVP first and PVE will always come second.
This game is 20% PVE Early Game meaning you will be doing PVE 80% of the time but you also must remember that EVERY QUESTS you do in WAR will or has something to do with the RVR-PVP side of WAR.Now at END-GAME it turns around and you can call it content or TIERS but the fact remains that 80% OF END-GAME in WAR is PVP.
Like i said and Paul Barnett has said many TIMES Mythic do NOT have to appeal to the everyone cos if you dont like it there are plenty of other mmorpg out there.
In Guild Wars, you can go straight to pvp, and you can also pick an RP character. If you were to keep everyone from doing PVE and made it straight PVP, like the original poster wants to do with WAR, the game would lose a LOT of longevity and probably not be as popular or as highly rated as it is.
And Pauls statement means: If your a hardcore PVE who NEVER wants to PVP then no WAR is not for you, if you never intend to do anything but whack foozles, no war is probably not your cup of tea. Its called WAR for a reason. I don't believe the meant that if you like to pve as much or more than PVP the game is not for you.
Its one thing to design a game with a specific goal in mind. Its another to alienate a good portion of the customer base. As WoW and Guild Wars have shown, even if PVP is what the game is mainly about... sometimes you just want to be left the hell alone or work with a small group, without having to buy another game to do it.

I think I was a little jumpy to conclude that you were saying there Isn't PvE, but still I think PvE will be a bigger part of this game than you realize. Since it's going to scale from Tier 1 to Tier 4 going from 80% PvE, 20% PvP, to 80%PvP, 20% PvE in terms of the area of each Tier (area meaning that the red PvP flagged area is going to be 80% of the zone), not in terms of content, all that means is that the PvE quests are going to bring you into PvP territory. It doesn't mean that the PvE quests are going to be 60% less, just that they'll be a lot more dangerous. So I think that the PvE and PvP content will actually be about even. After all if they weren't then you couldn't go through the entire game just doing PvE, you could go through "most" of the game, and then when you got to end-game you'd "have" to PvP.
I think we're both saying the same thing but in slightly different ways. I don't think the game is putting PvP first though, I think they're putting RvR first, which incorporates PvP and PvE. So when you say RvR-PvP-PvE, I'm saying it's all under RvR, so it's just RvR-RvR-RvR. Especially since a number of the PvE quests will be going through PvP territory.

Guys, the game is RvR. It's not aboud grinding monsters and it's not about PvP. It's about beating the living snot out of your enemies. The Devs have some interesting looking ideas for both PvE and PvP content, and I hope they don't let a few ravid fans screw them up.

I want to crush both NPC and PC without limitation. I would rather not repeat the horrible monster tagging (see: kill stealing) that occurs on the PvE servers of most MMORPGs. If you want to run around collecting rabbit pelts without the fear of a stinky orc crushing your puny butt, play WoW.
I am not a Nazi about it. I am totally in favor of people doing what they want. World of Warcraft has 8.5mil subs. There is plenty of space and friends for those who like to collect flowers and donkey hooves.
Yer, I'm game for forcing everyone into PvP. For PvP and all it's glory, stay to WoW if ur here for grinding, we want a mature community who wants blood and fights !!!
Some dumb jackass always has to bring Nazi's into things... Now that Godwin's has been invoked, it's time to lock this thread, as it can only go downhill to hell from here.
I was actually having fun with the thread too. Oh well.
I'll grab my sledgehammer and bring peace to this villain in the name of sigmar!

Does this thread remind anyone else of the Nazies? "Those PvEers ruined our games! Our UO with their Trammal! Our DAoC with their Catacomes! They must be crushed! They must be crushed with PvP content, and sufficated from their PvE ways!"

Seriously.
It's Are'el. This forum doesn't allow apostrophes in usernames.
