WoW is the greatest MMORPG

It is. MMORPG's involve nothing but endless grinding towards a goal that is actually impossible to reach (although this fact is withheld from you until it's too late)

However, WoW is a horrible PERSISTENT WORLD game. I have recently decided never again to play a game that is overly centered around statistics/levels. I also decided that the moment I find myself bored with a game, I will drop it not play anymore. To me, MMORPGS have been nothing but a boring, unrewarding grind.

However, I dream of the day when a persistent world game comes around that does not involve increasing the statistics on your character. No STR, no AGI, maybe not even HP. It's bullshit, and it's boring. I would like a game where you are no longer bound to a character but instead hop between controlling different warriors that are part of your 'nation' and can permanently die. Where guilds are a town or castle or fortress rather than a group of silly players running around wearing random armor hopelessly trying to draw attention to how much cooler their character is than anyone else's. It would be great to have drama between gulids like in shadowbane, and fight for resources. Have great battles and adventures, spy on one another, deal with the horror of watching an enemy guild take over one of your cities and experience the joy of winning a great victory. Adrenaline is what I play for, not for repetitive instances that offer no risk, only a reward that is based on a logarithmic factor of time. Character developement sucks, it's boring as fuck. I cannot imagine a non-grind way to incorporate character development into a game.

Grinding is a one-way choice, there is no way to grind and have a dynamic experience. It is a static, linear path. Any time that you are trying to increase any sort of number on a character, the gameplay is not being changed - just silly numbers on a screen. Anyone that cannot grasp that facade needs to play WoW for about 1500 more hours.

FOR THE IGNORANT - I encourage you to continue playing WoW. Give you money to WoW and gold farmers and whatnot. Sacrifice more time to the game and try to get your friends to play more. I want you to do this so that you will be educated. Your homework is to learn why this game offers you nothing, and realize it without being forced to do so.

EDIT: changed the poll while posting... durrrr. Say YES If you would prefer a dymanic game. No if you would prefer a static.

WoW is nothing and will fade with all the other MMO's that have come down the pike.  Personally I hope it is with more speed that its predecessors.

OP did I now understand correctly the intention of your post:

1: You think that MMORPGs are bullshit, boring, and offer nothing to players.

2: You think that "PERSISTENT WORLD" games are better than MMORPGs

3: You went and picked the most popular MMORPG, and attacked it, because people who happen to like MMORPGs need to realize that they are wrong and you are right.

In this you have a rather nasty opinion about people who do play and enjoy the game.Who are  you to say if they play out of ignorance? And if so..isn't ignorance bliss? NAh i don't like the way you stated this, so i say you want a game without HPand statistics?Go play second life. And if you want adrenaline try eve online.Unless you can't handle loosing to work to a goal for months and months and loose it in a second.

And no  ,  i am not a wow fanboy..in fact i hate the game really really bad....but i ain't pretending to know why others should or should not play...because one simply can not know.

You know.... caps and apostrophes are your friend, double negatives aren't. Maybe you should waste less time playing whatever MMO or game you are playing and go back to school.

WOW has 8.5 mill only because they have had a head start in creating a large fan base from the Warcraft series not to mention people who played Diablo 1&2 and Starcraft played Warcraft as well. TBC expansion was only made for high levels which was kinda weird, bummer that people who are new or dont have level 58's yet can't enjoy the expansion when it was released. I bet once the other new MMOs hit the market you will see WOW numbers go down. TBC expansion doesn't offer enough content to keep WOW players busy for a decent time. In a month of  TBC release many have seen level 70's already. I guess if you enjoy grinding for rep is people's idea of fun then by all means enjoy lol

You love WoW because it has 8.5 million subs and it can't be compared with other MMOs?

We all have opinions on things. This is one persons opinion on a subject. Its not opinions I discredit, just the assumption that one persons opinion stands for all other peoples tastes. I hate mustard. Im not going to sit here and tell you why you should also hate mustard. Some people just like mustard. I feel that WoW is a great game, I currently play it, but by no means does that mean I think others should like it the same as I do for the same reasons. Ive quit and reactivated a few times. There is no black and white on this subject. Its all grey, I like some aspects, but dislike others. Lets just try to remember that what we think may be right for ourselves, could be completely wrong for another. Some might like a grind, just look at most of the korean and asian MMO's available. They seem to do fine despite a the grind. I love to quest in games, but i know several players who could care less for storylines. Whatever game someone finds fun is always right for them, whether you agree or not.

All I can say is that person who doesn't understand the concept behind WoW which poster explained in greater details and keeps playing is mentally ill. At the end of the day no-lifers > anyone else.

I find it pretty sad that people act like I know the exact reason that people play the game - which I don't. I am just sharing some general observations.

Perhaps I hurt people by going into the no-life discussion. I think it would be good if we would come out and really discuss that subject, as there are many people who have been hurt by this game.

...agreed. touchy a subject as it is, fact remains that there are people out there who clings to WoW tooth and nail because theyre either really addicted to it, have no social life whatsoever, or both. its sad when that happens, but i dont blame them. aside from the fact that WoW is a great game (although im not very impressed with WoW atm, i still like it), perhaps they found people there that sort of supplements their social needs.

    my 2 cents.

The whole "best" topic ideas are subjective. It is 100% opinion based. I may think NBA2k7 is the greatest game ever and you may think that title belongs to Pokemon Red. The fact of the matter is that neither of us are wrong, but neither of us are right. It is an opinion and there is no best.
