With the pre-order box there, (ie the £5 one), that is only to get into the pre-order. You will still need to buy the usual box to play the full game (although the pre-order gives £5 off the full game, so you are really gettting it free).

If no one has ever pre-ordered a game before, this is how it works. The pre-order box (ie the cheap one) will only give you a copy of the client + a pre-order code (to get early access to the game). You will need to then buy the full game to get the game-code which will convert the pre-order account into a full account.

The difference in price is pretty big, but I don't see why the usual box should cost so much more than the preordered one Is it because of the 30 days free playtime that the price differ so much, or is it because they have to send it home? Would be nice with a clarification here.

So in your case, you should buy the pre-order (which will let you download the game). That will give you early access to the game. Then buy the full game, using your discount (which they will probably email you).

Being that we all explain things differently, I thought it would be good to link up to their site for the FAQ info, which helped me out when I had some of the same questions in the last week or so.

The BETA/Pre-Order FAQ from the www.lotro.com site.

Pre-order info page from www.lotro-europe.com, I believe this pertains to the EU side but I'm located in the US so if it's not the correct part of their site I apologize.

A note on the Founder's Club pricing, it is $10 but being that it is special pricing, if you leave the game for a couple of months and reactivate your account, you will no longer have that special pricing but their regular monthly subscription price.  Not sure if they've released a monthly sub figure yet, but they anticipate it to be USD$14.99.  I mention this because the orginal poster mentioned trying out the game first, so people may want to keep it in mind.

EDIT: There is also a Pre-Order terms and conditions on the EU page I linked in the bottom right of the information.  I didn't read it, but may be useful for those it pertains to.

This is stated in the U.S. FAQ at least, I'm not sure if Codemasters have set it up differently.
