Auto Assault: New Game Added!

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

We have just added a new game to our ever-expanding list of MMORPG titles - Auto Assault!  This game is being developed by NetDevil (creators of JumpGate) and will be published by NCSoft (City of Heroes, Lineage II, Guild Wars).  The official site opened just 2 days ago and does a very nice job of showing off the current state of the game.

You can view more screen shots in our gallery, and get even more information about this title at the official site.  Make sure to check the game out and let us know how hyped you are about it!

Looks like NCSoft is publishing another genre-bending MMORPG. definitely different, hope to see if it turns out as well as City of Heroes did. Or maybe just another Lineage II let-down. Not sure how it will actually work though: just like a persistent Twisted Metal online game or something?

Didn't EA (earth and beyond) have a game like this?

It looks allot different than anything else on the list always a good thing :)

While it looks like the prefect game for open PvP, sort a "Road Warrior" type game, it seems to not be. Looks like PvP only in mini-missions.

What do you kill to level up? Do you start smacking around grasshoppers on your windshield, then at level 2 you start to hit small rodents, maybe level 4 you nail raccoons. By level 20 your mowing down steer.

    Clever,

Thats one of the big questions I have, too. Right now, we can only hypothesize.

There are screenshots which show people walking around outside of cars, so one would questin whether or not you even get a car to begin with. If I was making the game, I would have it where you start off in a newbie zone (Like in Anarchy Online), which you cant leave until you reach a certain level, by killing stuff while on foot. After that, I would have the first quest, by whatever group you are in, give you a standard loaner car.

But, there are also screenshots of what look like AI controlled cars. So, maybe you start off killing very low-level weak (AI) auto-combatants, maybe even drones like in I76.

I just cant wait untill they put up their message board, so we can ask them such important questions.

EA had Motor City Online which was just a racing game really, no combat. You drove around in circles alot, winning cash to buy new cars or upgrade the one you had so you could go around the circles even faster. I played it for a while, I liked it if only for the fact that it was all old muscle cars and I'm a big musclecar fan. But it was plagued by hackers and speed hacks, people getting 9 second times on tracks where you shouldn't be able to do better than like 20-25 seconds.

Auto Assault looks like a mmorpg version of the OLD pencil and paper tabletop RPG Car Wars if anyone else is old enough to remember that game much less have played it. :)

As for levelling up I'm sure there will be mobs of some sort to kill, npc cars, gangs, etc. If there are enough options for the vehicles: many different chassis, engines, weapons, armors, accessories, paint jobs, etc. Basically customization like in CoH.

I see definite potential here... :)

I like Car Wars quite a lot myself but only got a few chances to play it image

One thing I am a little dissappointed with is the graphical look of the game. I swear I read somewhere that it would be like MMORPG meets MadMax(maybe that was all in my head and hopes, but I swear I read that somewhere...really). I think I got myself very hyped up on that thought and was kinda dissappointed to see the screens that make it look cartoony in my opinion.

I still think it is a great idea and will have to give it a try, but man did I get hyped on the MadMax theme hehe

Beta'd: Neocron, Planetside, ShadowBane, Horizons, City of Heros, Saga of Ryzom, Lineage II, WoW Stress Test

I made one reply that got lost, so I hope this doesn't end up as a double post (my apologies if it does).

I suppose I should start by saying I'm a dev on Auto Assault, so you've been warned.;)

First, thanks to everyone who made a comment that they were looking forward to this type of game, it's very encouraging!

My comment is for those who were wondering what the enemies would be like... basically we've got everything from assorted bad guy infantry units to mutant creatures to autonomous alien machinery to of course, lots of different vehicles and fixed structures to destroy.  Not to mention you can blow up pretty much everything else just for fun.  And there will be several options for PvP, the main focus of which will be Outpost scenario battles and Arena matches.

We'll be revealing bits and pieces of how the gameplay's going to work on the official website over the next few months.  Everyone who played at E3 seemed to walk away really excited, and all we were showing off there was "killing field" type highways and a very simple PvP outpost battle.  We've got a pretty cool mission campaign system and triggering tech that can make some very cool private instance missions...

We're very excited at NetDevil, because no one really knew what to expect from E3, and we've been in development for 2.5 years already.  For all you folks that mentioned various old skool table tops and computer games and movies (Death Race 2000 anyone? David Carridine + Stallone is better than PB & Chocolate), well... we're hoping to mix all that up with a dash of Diablo II pacing for taste, into a really fun and fast MMORPG.

Anyway, I can hear the marketing and PR death hounds sniffing me down already, so I better shut up.  I'll try to keep an eye out on these forums every once in a while to help answer questions, until we get an official community site running with our own.  I don't get a lot of free time unfortunately, so please don't be offended if I can't reply, but I do try to read everything I can find.

In the mean time, keep an eye on http://www.autoassault.com for any updates, etc... we'll be putting up a couple of trailers from E3 pretty soon.

    Cheers!

Jumpgate was a really great game, so I hope ND keeps up the excellent work and this one is even better.

Also I hope that the graphics are a bit better then Jumpgates which the screenshots seem to indicate. If that's the case then I can't wait for it to hit the shelf.
