Actually, I think a complete wipe is what SWG needs, it would cut down the number of player structures, enable consolidation of servers, and trim down the number of items in the Database like datapad locked pets. I think it would get a lot of the lag taken out of the game.
Would I go back? Absolutely not. I enjoyed grinding in the original game, NGE combat is just not compelling enough to make me go through another 90 levels of that crap. And the storylines of the legacy are just not compelling enough to hold my interest. The old SWG still holds a fond place in my heart. So possibly a full wipe will make the game better, while, at the same time, alienating the rest of the playerbase to make SWG's journey to total failure complete. That is what I look forward to. This game needs to be cemented in history as the text book example of how NOT to run a successful MMORPG. Let NO ONE follow in their footsteps.
I would jump on a fresh preNGE server, in fact I think I would prefer it. But there is no way I would grond up in the NGE a new toon.
As for the poll, most of the people left playing are still there becuase of the cummonity, friends, and what they have accomplished. Server wipes would just about destroy all of that. I could see many people finally hitting the cancel button for that.

The only reason i went back to SWG (for 1 month) last november was because i missed my character, my equipment, and my guildmates so much. If they wipe, I will never go back...SWG was my 1st true mmo (D2 was my 1st online game) and I truly miss those bygone days. But I really hated the NGE's new skill trees, most of my equipment was obsolete, and my guild had disbanded (only 1 guildmate was still around, and he was surprised as hell to see me log in) True, some of my nostalgia is because it was my 1st mmo, but damn, I wish the NGE had never happened!

So basically what I am saying, you liked SWG because it was a hell of a MMORPG.

Yep .... i still remember that one evening ... my first experience with an mmorpg.... where a friend of me guided me through Corellia ....
I remember i didn't want to stop, and he begged me to go to sleep at six in the morning .... it was my best game experience ever in the 24 years that i'm playing. I regularly got up in the middle of the night, needing to login ... couldn't sleep from exitement.
I have never felt more immersion into a game then with this one ... the mood, the music .... it was all perfect.
Wiping the servers wiould be a good thing .... but it will never get that special feeling back ... i will only return for pre-cu SWG, and even then i don't expect to be able to enjoy it anymore ....
Ps: And in those days all major cities were CROWDED ... i resubbed half a year ago, to find 2 or 3 peeps max ...
I used to think to myself "I'll give SOE the benefit of the doubt. Repair the servers and put them back. Recognize your flaw and mistake. Correct it SOE and you'll have my monthly payment back. I promise.."
That was shortly after the NGE in 2005. It is now 2007 and my feelings have since then faded. In all honesty, i don't think i'll go back if they revert/whipe the servers for a new version or the old. Its been too long and i've moved on.
I have been helping test and develope the SWGEmu for old times sake however. it brings back old memories seeing that two-toned interface and the 32 professions... but it still doesn't feel the same...
/sigh;
/shakehead
Its a shame.
In my opinion, i think regardless the servers and game will flop if they change it up again. Players have gone through too much change, and those hanging on will only be driven off by another 'upgrade'. Those who are new do not yet have the loyalty i think and SOE will loose a large portion of that base as well.

Wipe the "ENTIRE" server? This is the worst Idea ever. The biggest mistakes they made was durastic measures, taking big leaps of faith with the CU & NGE. Why not fix the problems with baby steps? I assume they've learned their lesson but I'm with the swg masses on this one, too little too late. We've all moved on from SWG and SOE anyway (most of us anyway) There one player left on Kettemoor (I just the trade forums from time to time) who I truely feel sorry for, his name is Mr. Ragnos, he is so hopelessly attached to the game. I think he's the type of person that would be a high suicide risk if you wiped it completely. I'd say the easist way to let him down is the cancel the game, with fair notice.
the lag has absolutely nothing to do with population. i lag constantly when there is no one around. in PreCU i NEVER lagged, not even in big pvp battles.
the lag is due to 3 or more layers of mismatched code sitting on top of one another.

it is game breaking regardless of the cause.
Yep .... i started suffering from lag when they decided to build JTL into the ground game ....
You mean completely invalidate what the Current player base has earned. Hmm lets see...I wander what happend the last time they did something along those lines. I would not put it past em tho.
lol...like in the NGE. I lost a damn CL80 creature handler.
"Oh we dont really give a shit what you think....its a new STARWARSY, ICONICY NGE SWG!!!!! Ohmygawddforrealcheckitout!!!!! Julio Torres is our Nerdy Heroe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!11!11!"
God, I hate SWG
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
So if they did a entire wipe of all the servers and made oh say 3 new ones with a fresh NGE on them how do you think the product would do? Meaning.... no elder stuff to hold onto.. No old items to make you feel you need to maintain them.... Pretty much making the product stand on it's own.... (oh and obviuosly the current playerbase while small might not like it they did it anyway and said "Move on" or somthing along those lines)..
* Would lose a significant number of current players
* CU/NGE would still be in place and would keep players away who are not there *because* of CU/NGE
I would pay for a permanent wipe to end the misery of the poorly done wow clone. I would honestly pay $1000's of dollars to wipe them all permanently so someone else besides SOE can create a new SW mmo and not have to deal with Smeds or any soe idiot saying oh we cant have 2 sw mmmo's out at once bs. To wipe and restart again would be a waste of time and money not that what there doing now is profitable lol
