SOE refuses to pull the plug on this game.

goneglockingoneglockin Member UncommonPosts: 706

Kinda figured they would.  Only a few thousand ppl still play at best; it was hovering around 10K when I left about 2 years ago.  The forums are dead.  Fodderside is ending.  Jesus it's sad.

I wish the suckers still left playing this game would realize they're being milked and up and leave.  SOE will only pull the plug when they begin to take a significant loss.   But even a 1,000 suckers is enough to keep the wheels on this joke turning after all the server downgrades and the complete lack of any dedicated staff to it.  Occasionally someone working on another project will give PlanetSide minor attention in the form of a carrot on a stick.

Give me a fucking break.

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

the game was fun as hell for a good while, and this game has great potential.

I mean that in the sence that it needs planetside 2, a nice update to the game whole new graphics, more of everything with updated ways of playing ect.

If they did make a PS2 id personaly buy it in a heart beat because of how much i loved the game when i did play.

I played it for 2 months half a year back and i really enjoyed it.Even if it only has 10k of players ..if these 10k are happy with the way  the game is why take out the plug.On the one forum they are mad at SOE for making a drastic gamechange...SWG...and on this part you are asking to let them pull the plug while appearantly some people still are enjoying the game.Let those who stillplay make up their own mind if it's worth their cash or not....just like the people who are bashing on SWG should let the players who still want to play it do as they like.

And why do you think it's going up 2 bucks?  Because of the increasing cost of "continued development" when there was never any in the first place?

This game is truly on it's last leg.  There are so few people left that they are raising the subscription solely to maintain a decent profit.  Keeping PlanetSide alive only discourages other companies from entering the MMOFPS arena.  PlanetSide needs to die and be forgotten by the gaming industry- so they forget the artificial reason why it's not a good idea to get involved with an MMOFPS project.

If there is nothing else I can say about SOE thats positive its that they dont like to shut down games. Hell they even bought MXO. Im glad that the older games keep going. At some point in the not to far off future a lot of these older games are going to close down. Some of them have had great runs others not so much. I think it sucks to see them pull the plug on any game.

  • baffbaff Member Posts: 9,457

I agree that this game is a spent force, but no reason to turn it off while people are still playing.

It's dead to me, but no reason to kill it for any others.

you brought up a good point about buying MXO.  I totally forgot that game was still live, much less in the station package.

I agree that pops are way down but it is still a heck of a fun game to play.  I love the large scope and the lack of hackers in this game.  I enjoy it when I don't feel like the obligation that is required for most other MMORPG's.  I'm toying with VG and gonna try out SWG soon so it fits well in the sony package.

Well the good news is, now that server populations are low, one player can really have an effect on the game world

I just resubscribed to planetside this month, and its such a great game, its really fun!  I remember why people left, and Im already starting to feel the same.  Its funny...  Planetside's gameplay is more interesting and players have more of an effect on the game world than almost all mmorpgs, yet I feel more bored than in WoW or EQ2.  I shouldnt but I do.  I guess its just because I am more of a rpger than a fps gamer.    The Planetside forums arent in the greatest state right now; not because of lack of players but because of the way they behave.  They are even more rude than on mmorpg.com, and no offense to those reading this because its not necessarily you but the posters at mmorpg.com arent exactly the most polite people on the net

Maybe it just feels like they are rude/childish in comparison to the pirates of the burning seas forum, where I spend most my time these days.

It is in a pretty sad state. Commercials playing in the bases...yes TV commercials playing on a TV screen on the wall...with sound and everything.  They said the ads would bring in more money so they could continue to bring "quality games" to us. Now they up the subscription fee $2 and all they have done is add crappy new CE and a few modified vehicles. They can't even update the scrolling news message on the server select screen more than once every 4 months...free mods get more attention than that. With the "free" accounts ended...the game is gone. They might as well just make it free to play provided you bought the game and shrink it down to one server.

Eep. Planetside was always one of those games I thought was under appreciated and I think SOE running it is why. If they had added the ads and then dropped the fee to a budget price (you know the opposite of what they did...heck free would be ideal, put ads all over then) I would still be playing.

PlanetSide was my first MMO and was the one game that brought me into this world of gaming greatness. I played PS from beta and had some of the best times of my gaming life there, but it is now dated and need to be put to rest.  PS will always have a placein my heart.

When I started PS, I was looking for an mmo, but an mmo with guns and more faster paced action that took more skill than just press hotkeys 1 through 9 stuff. PS is VERY fun, I only played fro about 3-4 months, but being in a guild where you routinely do massive attacks on the continents is a huge rush, especially when your coordinating with 80 people + 2 more guilds of 80+ peeps.

PS will remain as a great memory to me, and if a second one came out I would buy it in a heartbeat. This is a game that the sony-haters can admit was never screwed up and stayed true to itself!

    Game is stable.

    Is part of SAAP.

No need to kill it as long as it is making any profit.

For me, what killed this game from the start was the 'Cone' firing technology.

Not being able, as a Sniper, to target for a One-Shot kill was just goofy and destroyed the immersion factor for me.

Other than that one thing, really wanted to play the game and love it.

Someone who just did not understand FPS thinking made a horrible design decision.

And Planetside paid dearly for it.

    Just my opinion.

    Good Hunting

Ahh so you are bitching about a game that you dont pay for?  The "commericals" you speak of do not run at all if  you are a subscriber.

The game is fun, and enjoyable to play (specially with a group of friends on teamspeak or vent).  Could it be better?  Sure.  I gotta say though, this is one of those games that I always fall back on in between my burn outs on other MMOs...it is trully what they call "casual player friendly."

Actually i am a paying subscriber. The first time i had been back in a few years was on a 30 day trial...needless to say it was a complete waste of $12 to sign up for another month. And it is definitely not worth $15 a month for a game that gets less attention than  a free mod.

Sure its entertaining once in a while...but entertaining once in a while doesn't add up to be worth the pay-to-play price.

Naw.  Never banned for trolling.  Just stopped wasting my breath on the ignorant lifers who hold onto PlanetSide like it's the only thing sustaining them.  It's pathetic.  I still read the forums there; it's an absolute joke.  Nothing but the same mindless idiots talking about how new content will save all.  Reading about how prime time is down to several hundred folks on a server- struggling for 1 poplock.

    They never fucking learned.

I would sub to Planetside if this game is developed by other company and published by NCSOFT. No hard feelings but i am a Planetside fanboy in the heart

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

    Fanboi alert.

I saw the commercials while i was on my free trial, and i signed up for another month. If you couldn't understand that. So i am a paying subscriber as of now. But i already canceled because its not worth $15 a month. Understand?
