Lifetime Of Vanguard

I understand there have been many posts on this topic, but i want people's new opinions on the matter now that the game has had more playtime (Although granted not nearly enough), Im wondering if people think this game will last like Everquest, FFXI, and WoW did, or if it will die out because of its flaws.  Personally, i think the game is fantastic and given a few more months, more people will sign on and They will have enough finances to iron out the Bugs, but What are your opinions?  Im just concerned because i like immersive worlds, i dont like WoW because its not.

No one knows what Sigil/Vanguard's fate will be, but it's entirely safe to assume it'll last a very long time if for no other reason than the safety net of already being apart of Sony's Station Access. It's highly unlikely SOE would let Sigil die without acquiring them; let Vanguard die, then say "Oops, nevermind everyone. You can pay $24.99 again, but no Vanguard!"

Just continue to have fun if that's what you're doing, there is no reason to be immediately concerned. The odds are incredibly in Vanguard's favor when considering the MMO industry as a whole. MMOs usually have exponentially more subscribers than they need in order to stay afloat.

There are dozens of threads simular to this one. The same ole posters will say the game doesn't stand a chance and the same ole posters will say ...go suck on a sock.

Personally, I feel like I threw $49 away so I wont be touching the game for another 6 months - it was somewhat fun, I did get 2 chars into 20-30 lvl range where it stopped being fun for me.  I do not think this game is going to up and die just because I stopped playing but I will not be supporting its development either.

If they can find a way to change the minds of those who already bought then canceled they will succeed as it stands they arnt exactly attracting people in crowds to compete with Conan/ WAR generation of games coming out.

I imagine you will be able to play it for a long time and that, over that period, stability issues will improve a great deal and maybe even allow for some growth in membership.

Although this game was a rather drab for me when it wasn't being horrible with bugs,  I can completely relate to finding something that just works for you - for whatever reason.  LoTRO is what is 'working' for me and I intend on playing that for a long time.

Sure the game will survive.  But the playerbase will only be the vanbois and people who enjoy paying for beta.  The game will never be nearly as complete as it should have been on release.  Since release server population has crumbled.  Theres no end game content what so ever.  Theres no helm graphics (lmao) all the armor looks pretty much the same.  It's just a half assed game that people say will be good in 6 months, when in reality, in 6 months there will be probably 250 subscribers who are all level 50 and petition to the GMs constantly asking when their class is going to be fixed.  The game just needs to die.  VANBOIS WAKE UP FROM YOUR DREAM!!

Ok...so 50 bucks. How much time did you have fun in the game. You said you have 2 characters in the 20-30 range. I'm going to guess you had about 500 hours played in game. That breaks down to 10 cents an hour ! For the price of 10 cents an hour you were entertained by Vanguard. That's a damn good entertainment value...particularly when compared to other forms of entertainment. So ya stopped having fun..ok..no problems here with that, but don't say you didn't get your moneys worth. It costs more to buy a newpaper and spend an hour reading it.

Conan and War are pvp based games...they won't draw much from any pve based games.

  • EuthorusEuthorus Member Posts: 491
I simply don't get the logic of attempting to justify some crappy game because it only costs you .0000001 cent an hour to play it.  I did not pay $49.95 for play time - and it doesnt matter what it costs. I paid for a POS unfinished junk that got passed around until SOE found some pocket lint to throw down for it.

I have no problem with someone defending their own ability to play and I think its great that you derive joy from playing Vanguard. You obviously got your money's worth out of it - I didnt and you can be certain I will let everyone I can know how horrible my experience was.

Shit like this is why I wish we could take pc games back to the store for not only a full refund but an apology.

If Sony is keeping The Matrix Online up, there's little chance they'll toss Vanguard. I am looking forward to checking out Vanguard in 6 months or a year from now when my real life settles down and I have the money that I feel I can spend on a new computer. I figure by then the major kinks will be worked out. I am pretty confident that the game will still be there waiting for me.

Apology? After Vanguard I fully expect Brad McQuaid to personally come to my house and uninstall the game and refund me, then cook dinner, then do some work in the garden, and maybe do a bit of singing.  Then I'll lecture him on the finer points of MMORPG creation for a few hours until he understands, then I'll send him on his merry way, but not before he does the washing up.

You hear me McQuaid!?  You owe me son!

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

You hear me McQuaid!?  You owe me son! This reminds me of the first months of Shadowlame - the game got so bad that I requested a personal DEV pole-polish service for my polearm weilding warrior - if I can recall correctly they wrote me back a nasty letter

Apparrently because I play WoW I enjoy games with "no challenge", like to be "spoon fed" content, play with "kiddies" or "mindless zombies", and can't hack a "real MMO".

I also quoted a part of your signature.

What does that really add up to, those things you write there are regular flames on WoW. But you flaming on Vanguard is better?

Why, are you self righteous or something?

    Would my signature then be.

Apparrently because I play V:SoH I enjoy games with no content, like to CTD, play with low FPS or mindless grinding, and have been McQuaided.

Then I go visit WoW, that you advocate, and make flames about the regular issues there.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

No i meant the store itself should apologize for even putting shit like that on its shelf to try and get us to buy.

I do not believe in absolutes.  I do not count my opinion as fact.  It is merely my opinion.  Welcome to the Internet!

We could try a Jack Thompson and file a lawsuit because Vanguard creates a public nuisance.

It is a wonder that any games every make it past the 90 day mark with poeple like this playing them. I have been gaming for a very long time and seen many games fall to the way side. But as with most games in the start-up there is going to be bug crashes ect. If you think this is not going to happen and they will make the perfect game then next you'll want them to walk on water. I find being from SWG WoW EQ UO that is is a very well made game and will go far. It has very good content and a good team behind the game it self. As for those whom do not like it this is fine more back to WoW so you don't have to think so hard :P

PS as for the grammer police BITE ME

Welp i find being from UO, AC1,AC2, SWG, COV, EvE, Ragnarok, L2, SB, EaB, EQ2, WoW, Daoc, Horizons, that Vagard is a pretty shitty game and wont go far. Actually it has already gone as far as it will ever go and that was the day of release. I cannot believe they charged us $50 for this pos, clearly that was only to try and cover the huge amount of money SOE knew they were going to lose with this steaming pile of an mmo. No way is this pos worth $50. So many other games had a better product at launch, but if people keep buying into the dream of a perfect mmo I guess we will see much more of these types of pos launches from mmo's.  I also feel that if this does become a common practice there needs to be a way to get a refund for the purchase, its pretty much like buying shit in a box. I think its BS that they got away with my $50. If anything we should be able to sue them for emotional distress because in the weeks I played this game I got pissed off more then had fun.

vg will live forever.  it is not a shitty game... it is a GREAT game that offers a lot of choices.  don't be afraid of many choices... the real evil is the short-sighted version that limits or forces players to play one way.. the linear way where everyone must follow that path.... no... vg gives you choices.  that's why it is great and that's why u should play it.

I am trying to get you Grunch For one SWG was 49.95+29.95x3 for the expan. then WoW was 39.95+ its expan both you pay $15 a month for is it you don't want to pay this or is WoW more to your train of thought? One of the only reasons I have seen why someone doesn't like this game is because they have to think before you acted.
