if you accept the fact that this game is BETA, you can have alot of fun here.

Yes and like said before but you can't repeat this often enough: it's getting better with every patch (most of the times image )

The game is going gold in a month . . ."It's a beta" is not longer an acceptable reason for the problems it has.

That said, don't bother buying this one.  Classes are still terribly out of balance, soloing is nigh impossible for any class, grouping is either boring or a matter of casting aoe heals as fast as you possibly can.  Hell, the game isn't even fully translated into English yet, half the labels on stuff are missing, and each new patch seems to bring a reduction in player power and an increase in mob power.  Crafting is still borked, which means there's no viable upgrade path for your gear.

Sure, Ryzom might be a good game when it's done . . . a year from now.  Personally, I'm not going to start paying to continue beta testing it.  Even if the game were finished today, the lack of communication and the ham-fisted attempts at balancing from Nevrax would have turned me off to it.

Sadly, I have to agree, and I am disappointed to be saying that. It just needs more work than a team of miracle workers could do in a month. There's a whole lot that I like about the game, but the problems are too big to ignore.

I'm having a blast playing. There are some problems sure, but most of htem don't really bother me at all, and it's a great design frame. Most of the upcoming big name games will probably be better, but (at least until it goes pay/full release in another month+) it's definately a worthwhile time-killer until one of the upcoming biggies shows its face.

[edit: added the rest of this, 'cause i didn't see the pages of posts past the first]

The game gets a major update every couple days, and even just seeing the last two (so I've started playing more recently than most of the people who posted on this), it changes dramatically each time. Almost entirely for the better.

I see no NPCs fighting mobs to make the game look fun.
They are working on balancing the skills/levels as they see more people playing. I think they should have worked balancing issues out a little earlier, but they are still beta, so I can't complain too much. So, complaining about not being able to craft the best armor at lower levels seems a little premature.

I think the skill system is very interesting, and as the content grows (more sources for building blocks for your skills, like missions, and unique mob drops, etc), I think it will really get interesting. With the bugs and beta testing features, there's some serious issues with someone finding a bug and becoming level 250 in ten minutes, but it's not like that has a real effect on you. And the characters will be wiped for the real release.

At 1gig for the download, this is the best free mmorpg i've played (and i've played every one that would let me download the client on the mmorpg.com list :)) as of today. I'm considering downloading a free trial of horizons, which might compare. But, until WoW comes out, I don't expect to find anything more interesting than Ryzom, even in its current state.

Please, be more vague!  Exactly what were you having fun with, again?  The broken range combat?  The nerfed and useless self-magic?  Soloing?  Crafting?  Finding appopriate level gear for your fighter?  Playing an offensive mage in a good group?  Harvesting?

Cause all those things are broken.

I got banned because I corrected a GM from Themis on something he said wrong in universal chat. He was extremely self righteous and I basically was resorted to calling him an idiot after he was talking to me. I know of SOR devs though and they are really good people from what I hear. I just think that particular GM was below everage intelligence and professionalism.

The game had problems but nothing I know how to technically fix myself atm so I cant really place blame anywhere or knock the game. Look at all they have accomplished. Alot. So give it a try and see if you like it. I played in first week of open beta and alot may have changed since then, I have no idea.

I think it´s cool but not fun....cause graphics are good and the enviorment is crazy::::12:: but i like it too.....BUT the races are ugly and probably the worst they could possibly have constructed.

I'm going to tell you the truth about Saga of Ryzom. I've played the beta, and so far I think it's not fun at all. It's really hard to understand properly how to do things, and also why to do things. You neither have any clue of how hard the monsters are, and when you level, it never seems like you become any better. The graphics are alright but the gameplay is not what i expected it to be. Compared with other games that I've tried I would have to say that this is the most boring and misjudged so far.

Sorry to slaughter the game, but thats just how I was born. Evil and cruel image

Just because you don't like the game and don't find it fun, is no reason to attack another player(s) who do. Its fine to state your opinion and why you don't like a game, but when you start putting down or attacking other people who do, well that's just not kosher p.::::12::

I like a good debate, but nothing ::::27::::::27::::::27:: more than for someone to, instead of make an intelligent debate, go after a player who has a difference of opinion. Happens a lot here at this site, but I guess thats just life. I'll stop whining now.::::16::

They've just fixed ranged combat btw. Along with some other issues. You can check it out here:

I wasn't attacking, I was asking for specifics.  If he's really having THAT much fun with it, maybe I was doing something wrong.  All those broken things are what constitute fun for me in an MMO.  If, in the face of prevailing opinion, someone wants to declare the game to be "fun," then I don't think demanding specifics is out of line.

Btw, that update doesn't address ranged combat, but the addition of a "range" stat to melee weapons.

True p. Then you have my sincerest apologies.::::20::::::08::

I guess I was still miffed from all the silly debating and name calling in the Guild Wars threads that I read thru before coming to this thread.

I find the story fun, and if you haven't gotten to participate in any of the large battles yet. Lol p, you're missing out. Of course, I can understand if you were having trouble finding people to play with. I also try to roleplay even though that is hard to do now-a-days in mmorpgs, but I've found people to roleplay with.

The combat system to me, now that it has been tweaked is much better. Still not perfect, but Nevrax has added some more animations to the attacks. I do agree with you that they still need to fix all the actions and skill system and refine it so it is easier to use especially for new players. Crafting and harvesting are much better now with the most recent bug fixes. I also enjoy walking around and just exploring the world, meeting people and taking the time to form parties to go out on hunting expeditions. But that's just me p. SoR isn't really set up, in my opinion, for soloing. It's designed around group adventuring and guilds. In fact, it is much easier to play and gain xp in a group. If you prefer soloing to groups, then SoR may not be the game for you.

I would recommend taking a break, which you probably aren't playing SoR right now anyways, and retrying the game if there is a free demo before release. That or wait till more of the bugs are fixed in open beta, but it may be just a game you don't like. That's ok because there are a good # of mmorpgs to try out this year and early next. SoR may not be the mmorpg that wins me over, but right now, for me, I enjoy playing the game.

I agree with RabidWerWolf, maybe it will not be the game you are looking for but there are some people that are actually enjoying it. I don't really like it because i am more looking for orc and elves if you know what i mean. I am waiting for several others that are coming out this year but i liked the closed beta of Ryzom becuase the community was fun. but iam gonna check back later when it is almost gold and see what they changed in the game.

I like the game and how it's coming along. I usually have around high 100's in lag and I don't get disconnected very often. I don't find much wrong with crafting at all and the fact that it is a money sink...otherwise there's no other penalty or anything to add difficulty to it. There is a problem between mages and fighters. Fighters need to do a little more damage so they are closer to the damage mages do, but the mages should still outdamage fighters. I love the graphics and the skill based system. Right now I'm just waiting for some more content especially all the cool guild features:)

I personally thought the game was ok.  I agree the controls are horrendous compared to some out there.

The ability to manipulate your spells is a good idea.

I would of played it longer if i didnt get banned :(

Why was i banned cos i said the word "Feck".  This word was often used in a very funny program in the UK called Father Ted. Its sad when you cant say something and then you get the friggin bad language police all over me(thinks to himself there should be a filter in game for people who are offended by swear words - which mine wasnt).

I just tried Ryzom and i can understand why they decided to move the release date till september. On the other hand this game cant possibly stand a chance against WoW, EQ2, GW, DnL and it could have been a decent alternative until one of these big ones arrive.

    1. The character customization options are very limited, even for an open beta. There is 3 races to pick from and they all look humanish, even more than in Anarchy Online.

    2. The interface is hell. Its not really confusing, but a simple thing as changing controls can take up to an hour, just horrible design.

    3. The graphics are not very impressive. When i turned everything on, the fps rate dropped significantly and even then the graphics couldnt compare with SWG's

    4. The gameplay is similar to Lineage II in the aspect of combat. The animations has a scent of anima to it, which i personally dont like. There are limited starting professions: Magic, Fighting, Crafting and Foraging. Sure, one can specialize, but its still very limited.

    5. At the moment the game suffers from lag and very frequent disconnections. I had 3 disconnectionms within 4 hours.

Of course they are going to add content and features, but i think its too late. If you are looking for a game, because you are tired of EQ, SWG or AC, you could try Ryzom only for the variation.
