Hell sell the account on ebay or something...

Better make sure you sell it for more than $199 or you got ripped off.

But, what is the point of unsubscribing a lifetime acct.? My posts are about the founder $10 vs the founder $199 lifetime.

And, $10 takes me back to the early days of EQ1.

And that is a good thing.
    It is fine.

Thing is, you have to never let your subscription lapse at all. Or you will be back to paying the $14.99 monthly fees.

the $199.99 will let you come and go as you please with no further worry of pumping out any funds, except for the expansion costs.

Keep in mind that Turbine has already announced 5 expansions. Which obviously your 2 years of play won't probably get you past Gondor or Rohan. By the time Mordor is on the map you will more than likely be on your 3 to 5 year of LotRo. With you paying $10.00 a month you will have already spent $360.00 up to $600.00...Which of course to even keep that deal you can't miss not even one month of your subscription or you are back to normal fees.

If you say you think you'll not play longer than 20 months and NEVER EVER come back then I can see paying the 10 bucks a month as you pay that $199.99 in monthly costs. But guess what, with that same amount up front you got yourself a lifetime of LotRo. So in the end you lose out, especially when you see them add Mordor and you have to pay $14.99 a month to come back.

I don't reccommend this type of offer to newbies to the genre, since they don't have a feel for a history of their habits with regards to MMO'ing. But for you all that have been playing at least since WoW release or earlier, you know your habits if you come and go on MMO's and your longlivity of playing.

For myself, I still hope in AC and UO just for kicks. I still play EQ2 off and on and I keep leaving WoW and coming back like if she was an old girlfriend that just know how to treat me. Did the same thing with AC and I finally stopped uninstalling her and reinstalling her on a whim. AC now stays on my system and every now and then when I get the itch I go in and play with others that do the same. Think about it..... AC is almost 8 years old.....UO is almost 10 years... I plan to even purchase the UO Kingdom Reborn when it comes out. http://www.uoherald.com/kingdomreborn/

AlL I say to you all, don't count your days in Lotro before you even try it. If you think you are going to play this game to the current end game, then I highly reccommend you get the $199 deal. Because as each expansion keeps pushing the end game further and further in Middle Earth, you all will come back each time and kick yourself in the butt once you look back and seen you spent over $400.00+ on just sub fees.

Your info on the $199 membership is incorrect.  Here is the info right off the LotRO site :

Once it has been paid, you may cancel, but cannot receive a refund for a Lifetime Membership. Lifetime Memberships for active accounts (accounts that have not been canceled) are good for the product’s lifetime. Lifetime Memberships may not be transferred or assigned. Lifetime Memberships that have been previously canceled can not be reactivated

    Just FYI

Just to make sure everyone knows....I am correct. I never said anything about the lifetime subscription being canceled and having the ability to reactivate it.

Shoal just misread my post about what I meant about coming and going with the Lifetime. Coming and going doesn't mean to cancel your sub. That would be ludicrous.

My point was that you can come and go all you want with the lifetime. You can't come and go on the $10 a month founder one because, to come and go on a 10 one would be to "lapse" in payment, therefore you loose your founder status. In turn you loose the $10 month sub fees and will have to pay the $14.99 a month to continue. With the Lifetime one, you don't have this problem.

I hope you don't take this wrong Shoal, I just had to point it out. Especially since I am already starting to see others quick reading my post and responding from your reply. Talk about others following you off the edge of a cliff.

this is probabally the best deal in mmos right now.

only a fool would cancel a lifetime membership. Or maybe a hateful girlfriend :)

  • ShoalShoal Member Posts: 1,156

    Nope.

    No problem.

After I had posted, I thought that you may have meant that you would keep the sub active and just 'Come and Go' to other games.

Yeah of course :) ...think about it logically. Why would anyone cancel a subscription to something that isn't costing them anything anymore?

Well, the only thing I would think of is if someone got really pissed at a GM or the dev did something so off the wall with the game that the player "out of anger" used the cancellation of the lifetime to prove a metaphoric point that this game is beyond repair.

I originally felt that the $10 a month deal would be the best deal and not to get myself caught up in the founder $200 "sell my soul to Turbine" deal since it seemed like a gamble, especially with what happened to AC2. But we all know AC is still going and DDO is still on the net.

LotRo feels to me to be the new Turbine baby as AC once was. Being in Beta since the beginning and late comer to the Alpha stage, I can say that I see not only so much more dedication from Turbine to this than they had for AC2 or even DDO during beta. Plus LotRo is not only a lot more polished, but we as testers can see the future of what Turbine plans to bring us in stages of free monthly updates and the annual expansions. honestly, even for a non-hardcare Tolkien fan, I am VERY excited for the path they are taking with this one.

All I can say is get the pre-order to start playing this Friday. If you are a story driven RPG fan. You will love this game and by the time you get to April 24th you will know if you are in for the long haul or not.

Most places will give you your 10 bucks back for the pre-order, but if the place you go to doesn't. Then I think you didn't really loose out on much since it was only 10 bucks and not 50 bucks for a game to sit on your shelf if it is not to your liking.

However, no matter what, if you plan to stay with it. Most usually intend to stay for the process of the complete story.....Mordor.. Which won't be for a very long time, with that in mind 200 bucks is a better picture than to keep a 10 buck monthly fee active untl the end. Remember, with the 10 buck one, if you cancel your sub for even ONE month, you loose your founder status and if you come back (Which most of you will once Sauron is being dealt with) you will have to pay the standard fee of $14.99.

No matter what, during all the age of LotRo being typically 3-5 years just to tell the story of Frodo returning the ring (which is only really the launch of LotRo Aka, Middle Earth Online) and you coming and going in the world, it will more than likely cost you over $300-$600 just for lapse playing, but up to $1000 to have no lapse playing. In the end if you keep this game at front and center, or just at the back of your mind to check out every now and then, you will get the best bargain paying the $199 founder lifetime fee.

Sorry for the comma crazy. I am just trying to get my point of thought across without losing my train of thought.

I hope you all understand my blathering, hehe. I would like to see everyone get this deal and see all the happy gamers join with me and my friends to take down Sauron once and for all!

Then of course onto our living in Middle Earth and further exploration of Arda. WoooHooo!!! Man I can't wait for Sauron's days to be numbered.

Cya all in Dereth...ops I mean Middle Earth .LOL

I'm definitely planning on taking advantage of the lifetime membership. I just wish I had that option with other games that I like to play for a few months now and then. I definitely would have made a great investment for all the time I've spent in CoH, Eq, EQ2, WoW, just not all consecutively. Like others here have mentioned I play a game for a few months, switch to another game for a few months, back to the first, etc. This'll be great!

Unless I would be guarenteed not to be banned for life for get about it.  Not that I would go looking for trouble but after losing $45.00 to SOE , I know not to pay to far in advance, And aside whose lifetime ? You or the game?

I wish I had the money to do that at the moment just in case I can get my girlfriend hooked into MMORPGs... lol. Hmm, maybe for her son...

I think I would opt for $9.99 monthly plan.  I have a pretty short attention span, and I never know what to expect from any MMOs.  And like another poster previously stated in this thread, I don't want to have to feel like I need to get my money's worth and force myself to play the game when I might not be enjoying it anymore.  Besides, once I quit playing an MMO, I never go back to it again.  I make sure I delete all my characters before I quit.   I am so strange like that. :)

If you did not like Asheron's Call 2 or Dungeons & Dragons Online, chances are you will not like Lord of the Rings Online. I would STRONGLY recommend against purchasing a lifetime membership as someone who is farmiliar with this title. You will be disappointed, you will feel ripped off, and 5% of you will think you got a good deal.

It's a shame because I had high hopes for this game, unfortuanetly it just seems that Turbine is trying to milk every penny out of players before they cancel their accounts.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but I think otherwise. I played open betas of both AC2 and DDO and didn't like either. I did play AC for about two years from beta so I knew what Turbine was capable of. LOTRO hooked me immediately. And having played up to about level 20 in closed beta I didn't see anything to suggest that Turbine won't deliver the goods in the long run.

It's not just gamers putting their money on the line with this $200 lifetime plan. Turbine is betting their reputation on it and as many of us know, that means a lot. Just look at what SOE has done to itself through their mismanagement of SWG alone.

This is a bold move for Turbine and I'm glad to have the option. Every MMO I got hooked on previously including AC, DAOC and WOW I played for at least 18 months. Seeing as how I'm now hooked on LOTRO I feel confident that my $200 won't be wasted. And honestly, this is the first time that a MMO since AC has really turned me on with an evolving storyline. Yes, we all know what happens but I get to be part of it which I think is very cool.

I hope that future MMOs based on franchises also incorporate a central story that involves players. I've always wanted to see MMOs become like interactive TV episodes linked by a huge story arc. It would work wonderfully for the Marvel and Star Trek MMOs for instance.

Just wanted to bump this since some of you have had a chance to play the open beta. I will bump again when the rest of you guys can join us.

I personally find it weird. I know they have expansions in the works for a few of the major zones covered in the stories. Are these going to be free expansions, or will we have to pay for them? Is the lifetime membership going to cover the content for these even if we do pay for them (somewhat like AO being free for base and pay for expansion). I don't think I could honestly say I would pay a lifetime $200 up front. It's much too risky in this day of 1K mmo's that equate to only 3 worth playing long term.

Plus I am an SWG refugee, and I would feel like a ham if they offered a lifetime and I bit. So, please take this with a grain of salt...

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

That made me laugh, because I would have the same problem..

HAHA! This is how it would play out.

    Me posing the question

    Her reaction

Me telling her its a solid plan

    Her telling me Im crazy

Me getting upset over her reaction

Her telling me Im acting like a child

Me saying Im getting it anyway

    Her reaction

    Me sleeping on the sofa

Her winning in the end because its really not worth the hassle.

The Lifetime offer sounds very good, and i will surely buy it, but if they dont come up with one i hope they do something like Blizzards Prepaid Gamecards. Cause not many people like to pay with Visa, Mastercard and things like that. I think Blizzard got many costumers because they used Gamecards. So in my opinion i think they should use lifetime offer, Prepaid and Creditcard options for subscribtions. Me go for the Lifetime

You are not at all familar with the title if you think it is just like AC2 and DDO.  Yes they are using a new and improved version of the same graphical engine and yes they are using an updated version of a similar UI.  But NO the game does not play at all like DDO or AC2.

The game takes the good from a lot of current MMOs and adds extremely strong story driven quest content.   It also adds great Roleplaying potential based on the lore and the tools turbine has provided (mood emotes that change the actual look of your character, player created music, pipeweed, etc).

There is absolutely no chance of this title getting cancelled like AC2 did.   Not with all of the positive press it is receiving and the sheer amount of pre orders and interest in the open beta.  Heck even if 1/3 of the people that have shown interest in the beta phase subscribe that will make it the 2nd or 3rd most popular Western MMO of all time.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
