Your Favorite MMORPG of All Times?

I'm curious to see what people's favorits are, feel free to add more than one, although your absolute favorit should ofcourse be stated as the first. Anyway Mine would have to be: SwG Pre-CU

Why? Cause SwG Pre-CU was and still is (If there still was Pre-CU) the best mmorpg ever released. The opportunities in it and things ya could do, the community and everything was just top notch. Some'd disagree and some agree, doesnt really matter, we're all different, so tell us your absolute favorit since you started playing mmorpgs.

Dark Age of Camelot, hands down.

I've never had as much fun in any other game than I did with DAoC.  In fact... I just resubscribed after 4 years of trying to find something better.  I would write more about it... but I just realized I have to go to a stupid meeting.  I hate work.

I see so many ppl all over saying swg pre-cu. Heck if we all came together from all over the world and dropped in 10$ each, we could buyout SOE and make it what it used to be

No doubt about it, for me it's pre-cu SWG.  Don't get me wrong there are quite a few other games out there that I played that I think are really great games.  It's just that none of them quite captured the fun and feel of pre-cu SWG, even with all the problems it had.  It just had that certain something that really caught me

yeah, hate to say it too, but SWG right after mounts were added.. don't get me wrong it was hella-fun running 20 mins to my guild hall and all.. but... mounts and vehicles made it funner-er

Star Wars Galaxies (pre cu) is my favourite mmorpg.

Why? Its not only my favourite mmo, its the only mmo i have ever really liked. It had everything i wanted, in the way i wanted it. It was everything i expected... more than i expected. There was so much varying stuff to do (not just combat), so many ways to play it, no limits and so much freedom and possibilitys. It also looked wonderful (remember this game is from 2003, and if you ask me it still looks better than most new mmo´s), with a great character custimization and motion capture animations, and a world who felt very alive thanks to all the small details, like grass moving in the wind, small animals in the air and on the ground, space ships flying over citys, creatures/npc´s attacking each other or helping you, etc. All this shared with a great community of mature and friendly players. After 2 years i still long for it badly, and a game must be truly great for that.

    The Matrix Online ftw.

MXO is the best game ever made. Best roleplay - commuity  - pvp - pve - endgame -  story

Asheron's Call 1.   Most original game that was years ahead of its time.   It had the best character advancement system to date, a huge seamless overworld, almost limitless amount of content, and random loot drops.  This is exactly the game the most people want to play today, but no company has yet to be able to get us back to where we were 8 years ago.  Vanguard tried the seamless overworld and botched it.   The only game that looks like the spiritual sequel is Darkfall.  AC2 killed what could have been the best franchise of all time.  If AC1 became free to play or updated graphics id be back in a heartbeat.   This is the game that company's should be looking at, but sadly they won't because it never achieved the financial successes that games like WoW do.  We can only hope that Darkfall sees the light of day, or that some company will look at AC1 instead of cookie cutter games when trying to come up with innovative games that provide depth and challenge.

I see alot of swg ppl in here, I was sure I would've seen some say UO was their ultimate mmorpg experience hehe. I played that aswell but were never really my thing, seemed like a "Low quality" of D2 made into an "mmorpg" *cough* thingy :)

That game was truly a game of wonders. God...I miss those days...

Asheron's Call BETA (99) through 01 or 02... the glory days of AC..

I'm sure we have lots of AC players here... my main was Carnelius (Frostfell) .... quit more than a year ago

The beta introduced mmorpgs to me and i thought someday id see something better than AC but it never happened.

This is what I was trying to say...

the fact that you have played so many MMORPGs says a lot about AC1 as well... it was simply the best mmorpg imaginable.

i played a lot back then but i would have played more if you didn't have to login through the Zone.. that used to be a pain

were you in the beta? It's unbelievable how fun AC1 was back in the day. I need to thank my brother 100 times over for downloading the beta years ago.

    City of Heroes/Villains.

The focus is on the grouping/soloing, from level 1 to the end...and you always progress (except when they nerfs, bad bad devs), so a level 50 is stronger then a level 1 in every possible way, you kill more minions of your level...it is simple to understand, but it is hard to master, everything is so sweet!  The sidekick system is wonderfull and the examplaring system is a nice try...the only "bad thing" I can find is that I want more of it...a lot more!

AC1 for me.  My first months in that game encompassed many of my best gaming memories.  Fantastic community is what made it for me.  Surprisingly even on Darktide which is where I ended up after about a year on Thistledown.

Disclaimer, I am not bashing PvP servers as a whole, just from personal experiences I have found more negative communities on them but IMO that is the nature of the beast.   I generally end up on PvP servers if a game offers them after spending some time learning on a PvE.

Pre-Cu SWG was by far in my opinion the best game I have had the pleasure of playing. The game had such potential going forward but we all know what happened to it

I still look at my screenshots from way back when and to this date I still havent found the feeling I lost when my guild played SWG.

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

    SWG!

SWG before they killed it and replaced it with the dreaded NGE.

Another vote here for pre-cu SWG. Could waste hours a day in that game.. just going from vendor to vendor!
