It all depends on the community in game as well. It may just have been my guilds but in both WoW and FFXI, the guilds I was apart of tought me to appreciate people who do not play as often as us or have a different playstyle. People like you are benefits to any guild even if they are just a raiding guild.
Think about it. If we raid and send you the mats, then you get to spend your time doing what you like, and we get to contine raiding. You are part of the guild and we would not just expect you to fork over everything you made. Part of being in a guild is sharing and working together. If it wasn't for your crafting I would have to spend time not raiding to make those things and it would take away from my playtime. In appreciation for your efforts, you should be rewarded with great gear as well. Down the road we would have to do pvp sieges anyway and we would be a gimp guild if we didn't equip you good enough to participate in those fights.
Like I said though, maybe it was just those guilds I was in that did this and if it is true, I feel very lucky that I broke into mmorpgs with these type of guilds.
I am looking forward to AoC too (*crosses fingers and hopes he wins beta invite). One of my only real concerns about AoC is that lvl 1-20 (I think) is completely solo effort. This can be nice, provide a good way to learn game without distractions, but I'm curious how long it takes to lvl from 1-20. I don't wanna pay $15/month for a single-player game.
Actually the first 20 levels will not be entirely solo. As it stands now you will be able to do small groups during the day while at night you'll be doing more solo based or stealth type things.
AOC will include both PVP and PVE you can do either or both. While I am a big WarHammer fan... I won't likely play the game because of the likely player base. A chat screen filled with juvenile jargon is the last thing I want to pay to watch. ( a big reason WOW turned me off quickly)
Yes and no, the player-versus-player aspects of Age of Conan is but one of the many core features of the game. You can choose to overlook this feature completely, never even setting your foot in the Border Kingdom or in a tavern or arena for that sake. The world of Hyboria is incredibly rich in myths and exotic locations, and we guarantee you hours upon hours of adventure through some of the most fantastic areas you’ve ever seen, infested with some of the most incredible monsters you’ll ever fight. There are quests to be completed, raids to be had, computer controlled cities to be crushed, dungeons to explored and treasures to be found even at the highest levels of the game.
Why not both? Find a mature guild in WaR out of game and then play with them in game... It's not like WoW is full of immature people.... just they say the dumbest things and you remeber them more then the intelligent ones....
Darkfall for now.
Quit bashing games YOU don't like! Including WoW, you know you liked it before you got burned out.
You could try applying for both betas and making a decision off of that. There are going to be immature people in both games but ( READ: JUST A PERSONAL OPINION) I feel that many children who thought WoW did PvP good will look at Warhammer as World of Warcraft II but more PvP based instead of PvE. Which would be the reason to be worried about the communtiy. Conan itself is going to add many cool features while it looks like WAR is going to be DAoC on steroids if all goes well.
It totally depends. Are you looking for a game that seems to master WoW's features? Or a totally different game with a totally different style and mechanics? I'd choose AoC because its different, brutal, and new. On first glance WaR looks very worldcraftish witch make me nervous, but it seems to be a contender for sure.
So long as neither game runs out of funding, and the beta testers actually do their jobs, both games should be fun in their own rights. I am just looking for more new things in a game at this point in my MMORPG career and Age of Conan seems to offer a more unique experience for me. This does not mean that I may not try WAR, I am simply going to continue to scout both.
If you want to go by the numbers I think that WAR will generate more sales than AoC.
The reason being that WAR is appealing to a wider audience and from what I have seen it is quite comparable to WoW, but it's promising MORE.
Therefore many of WoW's current subscribers, especially those who are PvP orientated will migrate over to WAR. Although WoW may be a great game for some, people will always tire of these things after a time and look for the newest / next big thing and I believe that WAR will be it.
As for me, I'll be decapitating people in AoC with what I think will be a smaller fanbase, built of people who are fans of Conan and the lore - I'm well aware of the fact that the M rating will not keep out the 'kiddies', but I don't think that they will be quite so prominent and 'in your face'.
To use an example I read earlier in this thread about a 13 year old going to see an R rated movie - would said 13 year old jump up and down on the seat, throw popcorn and giggle with their friends or sit quietly and watch the movie they shouldn't be watching?
LoL I love how people already point out features of the games that not even in beta yet. AoC is almost in beta but .... not atm.
How about people actually wait and give it a try in OB before BSing. Did you learn nothing from Vanguard? LoL I still remember all the "I cant wait for vanguard" posts by the same people on these forums. AoC brutal? different? new? innovating? because FAQ said so?
Dont make me lawl. Just think how many vaporwares we had already and other disappointments. Just stop stating your opinions as if they were scientifically proven facts. Nothing is known about either game and you people need to practice patience.

Not all of us are claiming things to be facts, maybe you should be patient and not try to read too deeply in everyones posts. We are all guilty of speculating.
Also, yes it is brutal, it is different for being brutal, taking people heads off while blood splatters your screen is new, which makes that part of it innovative. No, not because of a FAQ but because of videos, and walkthroughs with the devs. It is going to be hard for this game to become vaporware considering microsoft dollars are backing this project because it is going to use the dx10 and work on xbox 360. I guess your "opinion" is that nothing is known about either game, but there are many things known, maybe you shall learn to not state your opinion as a scientifically proven fact. What we were having here was a discussion.
I do not think either game will give you the option of a "lifetime" fee, it isn't the smartest thing to do. If every user bought the lifetime fee, after 14 months they would not make anymore money off of subs and then they have to find a new way to pay to keep up servers, pay employees to watch servers, answer calls, play as GMS, and develope new content.

Yeah.....
I can't respond to that without sounding horrifically cynical so I'll just skip that.

After Vanguard.....
I'm waiting till both games to come out and see what the community reactions are a couple of months after release.
Won't Get Fooled Again!!! (WIld Man Scream!)
I will play both if both games have lifetime sub like LOTR. Just hope AoC dont end up like Vanguard.
