of recycling a series of books that weren't in the least bit entertaining and turning them into a game.
A) you already know what happens
B)Even if they create there own new story based on Tolkien's old boring story it will still be a rehash. What is a rehash my good fellow? A rehash is garbage.
C)This is not my opinion this is fact. Tolkien was a boring lunatic. You don't believe me? Just read LOTR. I forgot where but somewhere there is a fifteen page description of a rock, tree, and some wind. BORING!!!
D) personally I would rather see an mmorpg made about something less symbolic of our own reality. Tolkies books were metaphors. It seems wrong to transpose a fantasy universe into a game that never really was intended to be a fantasy universe. It's like taking aesops fables and making a first person shooter. BORING!!

It's a nice fantasy setting.I don't care if it's calledLOTR and if it starts of as tolkien wrote in his books.Aslong as i find the game fun i don't care....And if the games no fun i quit and still won't care.
Don't i have a lovely life.....
LOL he wasnt a Lunatic he was a Heroine addict there is a difference.
No seriously, BURRRRRN!!!!!
No now... seriously, BUUUUUUUUURN
Did I mention that I have deep emotional problems ^^... No seriously... BUU... no, really, I don't take the bait, everyone who's slightly interested in Fantasy worships Saint Tolkien, everybody knows that, there ARE no Tolkien haters

Or maybe making stupid comments about another game is your style.
I think the point is, people want to live the LOTR experience, fair enough I can see the attraction, even if I care nothing for playing the game.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)

pretty much sums up my feelings.
There can be games so bad that you can't even play two hours before giving up on them. This is not one of those games.
Any game stoppers are absent. Like any MMO, things start slow to help you get introduced to the game, controls, etc... The newb areas in this game work well at their intended function, but are in no way a good indication of what the game is like as you progress. It get's better as you go and definitely deserves the chance.

Among all the jibberish in OP I do see the point of the story...
There's a distinct GOOD and a BAD side....
And you play on the GOOD, hence can't lose....
Seems a bit dull.
Compare to EvE, WoW, Auto Assault, MxO and such, where there are no 'good' and 'bad' side,
I must say I prefer the more abstract distinction.
And.. Ya.... 99% of the population doesn't think that LOTR is a great or THE greatest story..
Less numberpuking more facts, k?
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
It all sucked.
It's the Battle of the Century. And the winner gets to claim the King Bonehead Crown.
Edit: I'd say it's a forgone conclusion that the letter M will win, as it's hard to combat someone that thoroughly unhinged. But you never know, Brad McQuaid could make a post in the thread, and steal the Crown, a la WWF.
In my opinion, you should learn the difference between fact and opinion. It's a fact that you're stating your opinion and not a fact.
"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one ..." - Thomas Paine
b) Nonsense, many new stories can be created based on the lore established by Tolken's middle earth. That's the thing to keep in mind, they are not recreating (rehashing in the OP's words) the story......
c) I read the Hobbit and all 3 LOTR books after I had seen the first movie. I tend to agree... I wasn't enamored with Tolken's writing style, I prefer the styles of more modern writers like Goodkind or Silverburg, but it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading them. And this is strictly my opinion, not a fact. Other people love the books, doesn't make them wrong.
d) You make is sound like the books read like an industrial trade magazine. The references against industry were very subtle (well, except for the real ending in the Shire) and did not detract from the fantasy while reading them. The world Tolken created pretty much set the stage for almost all the Fantasy MMO's we have today (with perhaps a little bit drawn from Aesop's fables in fact) As to the shooter analogy... silly, shooters all involve guns and I don't care for them anyways.
And to some of the other posters that say its not a great game. Maybe not for you...but for the folks who decide to play and enjoy it, we will have a fun time. And in the end...isn't that's all we really want from a game...to have some fun?
Well, that's my goal anyways..

who me ?
Can you say trolling fool? This is not my opinion it is fact, I would like to beat you to death with Tolkien's books. They are not my favorite book not even close but your post is idiotic meant to offend and insult fans of this game nothing else. Do you even know what a metephor is? I take that back I would not like to beat you to death with the book. I would rather stuff the books down your throat and stick starving bookworms up your ass.
Only reason I think Tolkien deserves the recognition is for starting up the fantasy genre Too many authors pwnd Tolkien's hobbit loving azz since then.
Just how much better would the games be if the devs went with some ORIGINAL idea THEY thought up and incorporated the lore into the game mechanics and not game mechanics into a crappy tired world. There would be room for so many ideas because the world is NOT bound by any books/movies/etc. 4 races, 7 professions, monster play "pvp," world size of a good mmo's noob zone?

I enjoyed the movies too.
I found the game to be rather mediocre.
I didn't read this thread.

Hi.
Tolkien created a universe. Much of the work he did was based on his own professional interest in linguistics, and he created real languages for Middle Earth, with grammars and vocabularies. He created a mythological history for this alternative earth. It was much more polished than most of the pulp fiction that has been published under the rubric "fantasy" since his time. He was brighter, he was more involved with creating a completely credible world (again, including detailed prehistories, languages and the like) than any other author I can think of, because virtually no fantasy authors are dual PhDs.
Whether someone likes LOTR is a matter of personal taste and opinion. But regardless of whether you personally like the book, writing that other authord "pwnd [his] azz" is simply inflammatory nonsense and deeply ignorant of the breadth of Tolkien's work. When your favourite fantasy authors have studies specifically devoted to them at major universities (and yes there are "Tolkien scholars" at major universities), then you can talk.
It's not just Tolkien, though he's probably the most well known, and/or prolific. Most of the well known writers from the "good ol days" seem to be worlds apart from modern authors. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Vonnegut, Arthur C Clarke, Asimov, Heinlein, even Frank Herbert, though he's sort of teetering on being a modern author, and many others.
Compare them to Hickman, Salvatore, and the rest of the current crop of fantasy/sci-fi authors.
Which is not to say there aren't any decent modern authors. Clive Barker and Tad Williams come to mind. But they're few and far between.
I think it's more of a change in the way the publishing industry is run, where back in the 40's and 50's, you actually had to be able to write a compelling story, whereas nowadays, and schmoe that can fire off a manuscript to a publisher can get their book out. Or even self publish.
Oh yes, Saga of Ryzom, the game that attempted to create their own 100% world out of developer minds that went nowhere.
Not sure what kind of literature you like, but I think you will find that the vast majority find the books far from boring. I have to wonder if you even read them, because just don't believe anyone could call them boring.
The books were far better than the movie, if that is what you are basing your critique on. I think that is a more likely story since your post is rather lacking in any details.
So go back to your boring FPS games and don't bother us here.
