The Stars, My Destination
To all of you; my friends,
We've had a long and fantastic adventure together, but my time as the Community Relations Manager for Star Wars Galaxies has come to end.
With that being said, it's important for me to also tell you that nothing crazy is going on. The game is fine, I'm fine...we're all fine here (how are you? .
I'm telling you this because my departure is not a sign of the apocalypse. Nothing dire is happening with SWG...as a matter of fact, SWG has a bright future. There are some really exciting new features and improvements coming up (soonTM), the team reads the forums every day and DeadMeat has his finger on the pulse of the community.
I'm satisfied that the game is in a good place and going in a really great direction. That gives me the opportunity to catch my breath and rest up a bit. Since my only plans right now are a little R&R, I'm not sure when or where, but you'll see me when I come out of hyperspace.
Before I punch the coordinates into my nav computer, there are some things that I'd like to share with you as part of my last red-name thread...
This is an amazing community.
From all walks of life and all types of interests, one thing is for sure, this is a really amazing community.
There are talented artists and writers, a lot of excellent role playing communities, lots of great PvP events, pilot guilds and all sorts of great people on all of the galaxies who love to play the game. Don't be shy, get out there and meet new folks.
SWG is a great big sandbox and every new person you meet is a new horizon and a new opportunity for fun and exciting experiences on the forums and in-game.
Be Excellent to Each Other.
On the other side of the keyboard, we're all real people. Please have patience with your fellow community members. Don't tear down your neighbor and if you feel your blood pressure rising in a thread, try to walk away and take a deep breath. Relax and remember that it's about the fun.

I will always love this game and this community. I'll still be playing Star Wars Galaxies so no, you can't have my stuff!

You've done well, my former apprentice.
I was once told that community managers should change projects every two years to keep from being burnt out. You lasted far longer than that and have been a positive influence the entire time. SWG and its community is better off for your efforts.

This weeks FF is a great example of how worthless this guy is when it comes to getting information for the players.
In case you missed it this week's Friday Feature was about Rifles, it is full of inaccurate information, it provides no information that wasnt already known years ago.

I love the fact that TH has to state (almost from the beginning) how his leaving does not signal an end to SWG. Is the SWG community so fragile that it cannot accept someone leaving, that it appears as though rats were jumping off this sinking ship? That the first reaction to this kind of news is panic.
I'll be looing forward to reading Smed's goodbye post one day!

Dont tease us! How Smed keeps his job is beyond me.
He was incompetent and he will drag down whatever company hires him in the future. He would be best served to look for a job where he doesn't have to interact with the public.
I've concluded that as long as SOE continues to at least bring in mediocre business results Sony is satisfied, and no one important in Sony really cares what he does with his toys.Dont tease us! How Smed keeps his job is beyond me.

Otherwise, if the game wasn't in such a dire state why did he have to state how awesome the game is to the existing fanbase eight bazillion times?
If soe payed me enough I would do the same because in the end, it all boils down to a job at the end of the day and there are bills to pay..
Leaving without another job means you either quit or where forced to resign.
No one leaves one job for unemployment.
If he needed R&R he could have used the family medical leave act.

Also 'doing his job' isn't a free pass to everything. Might as well say don't get mad at the used car salesman who just knowingly sold a $1000 lemon to your grandmother for 20k because he was only 'doing his job' trying to make as much money as possible.
Theres a point or a line for most people for keeping integrity, honesty, sincerity, and common decency and I'd say alot of people feel TH knowingly crossed that line many times for SOE over the years.
I understand folks have bills to pay and families to feed and sometimes ya have to do what ya gotta do but that doesn't mean I have to like him for it. After 4 years it appears to me that integrity ect didn't mean much for him and he's only jumping now because the doomed ship SWG is going down.
Personally I don't hate him but I do dislike him becaue he knowingly lied to or misled the players for his SOE masters. I am sorry to see him leave though, if only because he might end up in a different MMO I might be playing and I don't like dealing with people I don't trust.
