I'm kinda familiar with that, but which one?

I mean, Space CowBoy OnLine (SCO) is in GPotato, while Space CowBoy OnLine Episode 2 (SCO2) is in Game'N'Game?.

And They Say The Lag was very awful, Atleast I'm expectin to play it with 246MB RAM.

Anyway I'll try it out, but I'm confused between the two.

It's not even in Beta yet.  All they have available is a prototype combat engine to test the combat mechanics.   That, yes, is free.  But the game is nowhere near finished.  They're hoping to have it out by late 2008 last I had heard.

Not trying to be a smartass or anything, but howcome you only have 256MB RAM? I mean RAM is pretty cheap at the moment and  256MB was also a very small amount of RAM 5 years ago. Most games are just barely able to run on that these days, let alone operating systems.

Judging by screenshots alone, I think I can already promise you, that you won't be able to play Sword of the New World if you don't upgrade your system.

    Correction my RAM is 246MB.

Another thing I don't know why, but I find RAM Upgrades heavy in my pockets.

512MB RAM Upgrade (Here in My Country) is Php 3,500.00 which is equivalent for $70.00.

And I'm really having hard time saving money.

Anyway, I can play this Game with numerous lag spikes:

Saga Of Ryzom, RF OnLine, Lineage II, EVE OnLine, World Of WarCraft, Last Chaos and a very few more to mention.

And this ones are some what better:

Scions Of Fate: YulGang OnLine, Fly For Fun, Maple Story, Trickster OnLine, Ragnarok OnLine, Rappelz OnLine and many more to mention.

So wrong! Officially it is not free, as we have a subscription option that is required if you want to access the full range of ships, but there is an unlimited time free 'demo' mode which players can play for as long as they want. The ships are still effective and competitive when compared to the 'subscription' versions as what they lack in strength and size they more than make up for in agility.

As for the EvE rip-off part... DarkSpace is nothing like EvE, other than it's set in space and you fly a spaceship (you can also mine if you insist, but just WHY anyone would do this I have no idea). You could also argue that EvE rips-off DarkSpace in these respect as DS actually predates it...

The main focus in DS is PvP and relies on actual player skill as opposed to an artificially implemented skill system. We also don't have the economy of EvE. What we do have is an excellent and easily accessible combat system which, in my opinion, is far superior to most other MMO's out there, although in reality it is a bit like trying to compare chalk and cheese.

Of course, being a GM/Developer there does mean my own views are skewed, and before anyone comments, we are also well aware the current game has it's own share of issues which we are working to resolve...

The best thing you can do is download the game client, make an account (just a matter of choosing a user-name and verifying your email address) and you are ready to go.

You can find answers to some of the more frequent questions in the DarkSpace section of the MMORPG.com forums, as well as some new screen-shots and community made video's.

As for system specs... providing you have a 700mhz+ processor and a 8MB 3d gfx card and 128mb of memory, then the game should run OK. I have even had it running on a K6-2 400 with a 32mb TNT2 card - it was playable... sort of :-P

It will really depend on your graphics card/chipset as to whether the game will run or not.

Not free but cheap.  Worth playing the trial and then watching for when they fill out and become a real game.

how can you have 246MB of RAM? RAMs are only 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024, and so on, it's always integer power of two http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAM#Capacity_measurement

where do you live? what currency is Php? only php I know is the net one :P for cca 50$ I bought 1GB RAM 800Mhz here at slovakia

anyway, if you actually wants to play any newer mmos than UO, you should seriously start saving money or ask you parents, cause 2 gigs is the optimal today (256MB was 'normal' 10 years ago mate)

I not the only GM/Developer and in truth I haven't been involved in much of the development process that has lead to the current version as I only officially joined the development team in August last year. Since then I have been working on doing what I can to improve the current 1.483 release and also on new features, content, storyboarding and a whole host of other things for the 1.484 beta.

I have been a part of the game and community for the past four years, three of which I have been a member of the game staff. During that time I've been involved with managing and co-ordinating events, competitions and many of the community management aspects of the game system in addition to dealing with a lot of the PR related elements. You could say I am a jack-of-all trades in some regards... And considering the game has now been around for about6 years, we have to be doing something right. A lot of this is owed to the community who have been very helpful in supporting the game over the years.

None of the game Staff get paid, we are all volunteers and we do what we can for it during our free time. It may sound odd for a game that relies on a subscription fee, but that is a necessary evil to pay for the running costs and maintenance. Bandwidth, co-location and hardware all cost money.

This is more a hobby for us, but we enjoy it, and personally I find the experience is invaluable in understanding how games and online communities work and will no doubt prove to be a great asset if I choose to get involved in this area professionally.

We do have some more people, hiding, somewhere...

    *picks up a rock*

    Nope not here... hmmm...

    *picks up another rock*...

Those system specs should be sufficient to run the game. Just download the client and follow the account creation process after installation.

If you have an issues running the game, you can contact a member of staff in the main game Lobby or via the forums.

Because not only is he running with only 256MB of RAM installed, he has a integrated graphics card that he set 10MB for it's frame buffer (I'm guessing, 10MB is an odd size).

I think my P2 way back when would have had better performance.

That chipset automatically assigns memory on the fly. With 256mb total ram, it is probably using 10MB currently, and the settings are that it will use up to 64mb depending on load. The user has no way to manually override this as it is handled by the driver.

I Just Tried Out Dark Spce, And Have Met DraFell In The Game Lobby.

No Lag, Empty Space, Cool Aeros (Aero - Called To Things That Has The Ability To Fly), A Very Supportive Community, Well, I Encountered A Bug Immediately *He3* It Was The Tutorial, I Don't Know Why But Players Give Me Money.

Anyway, DraFell, How Do I Level Up? I Mean, I Have Been OnLine For Almost 7 Hours Straight.

But For Sure My RAM Is 246MB.

We have three main 'game' servers. The newbie.darkspace.net, and admiral.darkspace.net servers are intended for people new to the game and to help them learn how the game-play works. These are both non-persistent scenario servers. When a team 'wins' a map, it progresses to the next map/scenario which is dependent on the outcome of the previous one. I would recommend playing on these until you are more familiar with the game play and at least have access to a destroyer class ship. You will find it is much easier to earn you first few ranks in these servers, and you also get to learn about how to build up and fortify planets.

The third server, metaverse.darkspace.net is our persistent world server. This is where the three main factions fight it out for control of the explored galaxy, which is otherwise known as "The Human Quadrant". Here you will find random events, which include AI invasion fleets, planetary revolts and occasionally some other interesting occurrences such as solar flares destroying all established planetary installations.

I hope this helps a little.
