AoC on Xbox 360?

It's funny how most, if not all, of the people bashing the idea of a mmorpg on multiple platforms have never even played a mmorpg that is on both a console and PC.  The 360 supports the use of a keyboard and mouse so why would anything need to be dumbed down?  I hope that more devs will get motivated to develop for multiple platforms after seeing the success of AoC(hoping it will be) and FFXI.

Surveys say that over 40% of all households have a game console (and growing rapidly), and about 55% of all households have a PC.  Of the households with a PC, I would think that about two thirds of them actually use their PC for gaming at all, and thats probably a generous figure. The PC gaming market and the console market are very close in size, and making a mmorpg available to both is a good thing.

I also see people in different topics claiming this is being made for the PS3 as well, but right in their FAQ it says:

What platforms is the game being released on?

The game is currently being developed for Windows and Xbox 360.

    Taken straight from http://ageofconan.com/en/faq.html

Just scroll all the way down and check it out for yourself.

I'd be surprised if having a keyboard and a mouse attached to the XBox 360 will be a requirement for playing the game, though in a way it would make sense. That said, I hope the compromises that need to be made to make it usable on either platform don't impact the other platform in a negative way too much.

I'd much rather play in with a Keyboard and Mouse on my 360, then with a gamepad.

Plus im sure the graphics will be nice on my 360.

I don't care either way, I have a keyboard and mouse that use usb, and it works on my PC and 360, so I will use whichever is recommended.  I just want to play this awesome game!

A keyboard and mouse is an epic upgrade to a console gamer.Do console players still use tvs?ewwww.well you could use a 15" monitor if you can find one, they support 1080x720 which is xbox360 max.those door stoppers only have 512 mb of shared ram, that is very gimp.I dont belive the 479 dollar x-box atm can do it even if it was dumbed down.probably be a new xbox360 for the holidays that can handle it.but like ps3 it will prolly be 699-799 bucks.ms days of subsidizing x-box r drawing to a close, they have already lost 4.7 billion US since its launch. And honestly they seem to be making them so non-upgradable,u can't add/replace modules to keep it current.there already on thier third model 360 and its not even the holidays.so basically every year you need to buy a new x-box.not to mention for x-box to go online they charge you 49.99(price source is in my other post) for 12 month access. And thats just to be channeled thru thier system.A pc gamer doesn't wait 4 years till his system is obsolete,we can do small upgrades costantly to maintain our rigs.this comes out to 50-70 dollars per month, not a bad price for a hobby. If you can't afford it then perhaps crochet or sewing would be better.

This is the way I see the whole PC/Console thing ...    THE PC VS THE XBOX 360

Remember that the following is just an opinion and it's given to stir up some debate on your favorite benefits of PC's and 360's.  Remember that the person who picks the criteria by which you judge something, is controlling what is debated, but my desire is that you would respond with your own criteria, as well as, responding to mine.  I'm only looking at this in regards to gaming.

Let's start with PRICE & POWER

PRICE - everyone knows that companies like microsoft and sony will sell their consoles at an incredible loss, because they make all their money on the games, downloads, and accessaries.  For this reason the XBOX 360 is the clear winner in the price department.  Also, you have to consider how much it costs just to equip your PC with the newest graphics chip ... it's expensive.  But, one exception to this price category is the games department.  Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like PC games are cheaper, sometimes by $20.  WINNER: XBOX 360

POWER - well, this is a tricky one.  If you were to take the specs of all computers that people are currently using, I would bet the 360 is more powerful than 90% of those easily.  For example I bought a laptop in 2003 for $1500, and that laptop is not quite up to par when it comes to playing new games.  Those same games for Xbox 360 ($400) are seemless.  If I play Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2 on my PC, I get Lag City, and sometimes my laptop just freezes up.  My 360 plays it perfectly!  Now there are 3 types of PC users I want to identify.  HARD CORE, CASUAL, and NOOB.  The noobs upgrade their PC's once every 6-10 years, the Casual upgrade every 3-6 years, and the Hard Core upgrade constantly, at least every 0-2 years.  I am more of a casual PC owner currently, but I want to talk about the HARD CORE.  My buddy is getting ready to buy a Geforce 8800 gtx, for $550, and whenever a new component comes out he has the option to get it.  For that reason I have no choice, but to give this category to PC, easily.          WINNER:PC

Well, that's the beginning of a long discussion that will, for many people, boil down to two things.  Price and Power.  Most people looking for power will go for PC and most looking for affordablility will go for price.

Im naturally sceptical of consoles. I'll keep my eye on AoC, but I will not pre-order with the knowledge this game will be multi platform.

    This guy...

First, although my PC monitor has a much higher resolution than my HDTV, I still like the look of games on my HDTV just as much.  Not to mention, I can sit more than a couple feet away from the screen in a recliner, and still read text.  Second, shared memory is not nearly as important to a console's ability to run games as it is to a PC.  You can't really compare a PC and a console's RAM because they are utilized differently on each.  Third, you can upgrade an xbox 360 somewhat.  Not to the extent of a PC, but you can upgrade it without buying a completely new one.  When the 360 launched, it was about a year ahead of that time's latest PC hardware tech, and at $400, it had more gaming power than the best PC you could buy.  It is still more graphically advanced and powerful than all but the latest  PCs out there today.  PCs will obviously surpass the current consoles eventually with upgrading, but the 360 will have no problem running AoC, or any game in the near future for that matter.

I've recently heard that Mythic is looking to port WAR to console as well, and I'd expect to see a lot of the games coming out in the future on both PC and console.  This is a good thing if you ask me.

Can you post the link of that information for WAR because their FAQ states PC only.

There hasn't been an official anouncement from EAMythic yet, but I think their job posting for a producer to work on  Warhammer MMORPG for next-gen consoles is a pretty strong indication of their intentions.  Their FAQ just says:  Q: Will there be a Mac/other platform version?

A: I never say never - but we will only launch WAR on the PC.  A console version would obviously have to come quite some time after the PC version's launch, but I definitely think they want to, and why not?  More potential players = more potential income.  You can check the posting out yourself, but here is a part of the Summary for their "Producer - Wahammer Console" job post:

EAMythic is looking for a Producer to lead the production and design on an exciting EAMythic title being developed across next generation console platforms for the online MMORPG market."

    LOL! No it didnt.

    LOL!  Yes it did.

Even now, a year and a half later, the 360 outperforms a lot of the PCs out there in the most demanding games.  I've played games on them both, and I can tell you with the utmost sincerity that no gaming PC on the market at the time of the 360's launch could touch it in gaming performance.  In fact, I didn't see a PC capable of pumping out graphics that looked as good and as fast as the 360 until late last year.  ATI (creator of the 360's gpu) and game developers alike, have stated that the 360 gpu has advancements above dx9 capability, and is capable of running most of the enhancements that dx10 cards have over dx9.  Some developers have even said that there is really no reason that the 360's gpu shouldn't be considered completely dx10 capable.  This actually reminds me of when some info on the 360 was released, and how a lot of "PC enthusiasts" were all pissed about ATI using new technologies for the 360 that they had not used for their PC video cards.  Anyway, I'm not saying that the 360 is some sort of miracle machine, and there are a lot of things that my PC can do that my 360 simply cannot.  However, when it comes to what the 360 was made for (playing video games), it is much better than you think, and it hasn't reached it's limits yet.

    Peace!
