Either my account has been blessed or Werner doesn't play those ads. I've never seen an ad besides the stale PS logo on the signs they added. If they bother you so much, go euroside.

Ive played PS on and off for about 3 years now and I still love the gameplay, although being the first and only MMOFPS they did well IMO. Perhaps Huxley will pull over the last remnants of PS.?? Who knows.

Due to legal reasons, Massive's ads are not broadcasted to the Werner server.

If this game was free-to-play from release it would be huge. I remember the beta when we tested about 14 servers, 8 of those never ever got used...was so sad :(

If Planetside went down the LOTRO line and offered a lifetime sub for, say, £50, I for one would resubscribe.

Always loved this game! Brilliant concept.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

Never banned, or never banned for trolling?  Cuz I remember Glockin, GoneGlockin, and StillnotGlockin.

Never banned for trolling...  On MMORPG.com however...  that's a different story.... *wink*

Also; you forgot GoneGlockinX; and DarcGlockin.

Dude...UO is still going strong...PS is fine. They will reup fodder and things will go fine till Huxley comes out...it is cheap to just turn on the servers and pay the intern to write some code every once and a while.

I would love to see an updated version of this game.  Better graphics, more objects to run around (better setup of trees, rocks, etc), bigger bases along with more base types!

That would be fun - Something like the look and feel of BF2142, but MMO style.  PS has the right idea, they just need to update it!

Exactly. They abandoned it pretty much, but they seem to be starting to get themselves in gear a tad. A recent CE upgrade and the long awaited Sunderer a.k.a "bang bus" upgrade is coming along nicely methinks

I 130% agree that they need more content. more base types, more aire, the should have variants of weapons that change its appearance and its stats slightly, such as slight changes in accuracy, fire rate, power, maybe introduce a more detailed weight system so a rexo heavy weapons dude moves even slower or something. the 'only mmofps' is starting to wear thin if its all they have to brag about with this game

/agree.  Planetside really did a great job with snipers, vechs, and cloakers.  None of them are overpowered and when you die from one of em you don't feel so frustrated as in most FPS.

Its so ridiculous when you play a FPS and every person uses the same gun.    I mean, you'd think these FPS developers would start getting a clue and thinking 'hey, maybe the sniper rifle is overpowered'.

Anyways, Sniper Rifle does kill in one shot in planetside.  It just doesnt kill in one shot if the person is wearing their high tech futuristic armor, so I dunno how it spoils the immersion.  You can one hit kill all the cloakers you want, because they are the only ones who arent wearing a bunch of armor.

I wish the suckers still left playing this game would realize they're being milked and up and leave.  SOE will only pull the plug when they begin to take a significant loss.   But even a 1,000 suckers is enough to keep the wheels on this joke turning after all the server downgrades and the complete lack of any dedicated staff to it.  Occasionally someone working on another project will give PlanetSide minor attention in the form of a carrot on a stick.
    Give me a fucking break.
Jesus get over it and come play the game. People only come to the forums of games they miss, either that or they have so little validation in their lives that trolling with the remote chance of someone agreeing is all they have.

You forgot Hatred.  And I don't mean- "oh that game sucked, I hated it."  I mean REAL hatred.  Hate for SOE for their actions, Hate for the PlanetSide community for their complacency and ignorance, and Hate for what PlanetSide has become.

If you consider yourself an advocate, a proponent, a simple fan- of the MMOFPS genre; and you have anything but ill will towards everything connected to the PlanetSide project... you're a self-defeating idiot.

  • JarloJarlo Member Posts: 221
Well if there was ANY other game in this genre I would give it a try.  As of now this is the one & only MMOFPS and I enjoy the heck outta playing it.

Don't you get it?  PlanetSide has to DIE.  It must become an ancient relic; long forgotten- so that the industry can approach MMOFPS again feeling that they are trying something new; exploring unknown territory.

As long as PlanetSide is alive- the prospects of an emerging MMOFPS market looks something like this:

*Bunch of developers and managers having a brain storming session*

Dev:  Hey I know!  Let's make an MMOFPS!

Manager:  Doesn't SOE; one of the top 5 performers in the MMO industry have an MMOFPS?

    Dev:  Yeah it's called PlanetSide.

Manager:  What kind of revenue is this game producing for SOE?

Dev:  With less than 10,000 subscribers; barely a million per year before taxes- less than 1% of SOE's gross annual income.

Manager: Ok- moving on... so who's got ideas on how to make another MMORPG with elves and dwares and stuff like that?

WAKE THE !#@% UP YOU SUCKERS.

    Wow are you clueless.

Ever heard of Huxley or Tabula Rasa?  The links are on the bottom <left> ......

Edit: bottom left haha.  Sorry still getting thru my first coffee.

Tabula Rasa?  Are you high?  The game has turn based combat and virtual dice rolls.  It's made by Richard Garriott and orcs and dorks fantasy fanboi.  And Huxley is an FPS- not an MMOFPS; because it cannot offer battles on a scope and scale any larger than exists in any of the battlefield series games.

No.  There are no new MMOFPS games on the horizon.  And there will not be until PlanetSide is Dead and Forgotten.  Let it go, and do yourselves all a favor.

Are you high? You dont read too much on games do you? TR is not by any means turn based. Yeah dice rolls do happen behind the scenes- but it would be rediculous not to have them. Head shotting your way through that game would be just stupid and render most of the weapons neat abilities useless. Everyone would be a ranger and just sit back and sniper everything like *cough* some other shooters Ive played. The combat itself is set up for real time action-  taking cover actually means something. Abilities on right click and rapid click fire on the left. Tell me that machine gun only fires one bullet at a time, just tell me that. It works like immediate DPS counts. You gain exp by damage done/ enemy fallen/ control points/ missions.

You could go play your WAR and have your dorky 50vs50 realm battles with those other orcs and dorks. Or you could play EVE and lag with the 100's of ships in one battle. What makes a game isnt how many idiots you can throw on the field at once, its how well the game plays. Id rather play 10vs10 as long as its smooth rather then 100vs100 and hit lag spikes.

Go play tribes or something for your mmofps. Because thats where planetside looks like it came from. But at least you dont have to pay to play that. Graphics arnt much worse either.

Also tell me the rest of these games made werent made by orcs and dorks and fantasy fanboi. All of the high end developers played d&d table top back in the day. Or came from japan where frilly things and tamagatchi came from. So stick up your .

Leave it to a planetside "downie" to stick up for Tabula Rasa; a so-called "FPS" game with training wheels.  I have been following the MMOFPS genre since it was merely a concept; and I do check into potential new titles- even the ones who falsely claim the MMOFPS label.  I believe I stopped looking at Tabula Rasa as I then heard about dice rolls, something similar to turn based combat, aim assistance, and a PvE driven environment with little mention of PvP... the core concept for playing an online FPS game at all.  Some aspects of the project have changed since I first read of the game... but it's still soft-core wanna-be FPS game.

So- Tabula Rasa is an MMO-Action-RPG.  Not a First Person Shooter in any traditional sense of the phrase.  And until there's a game that offers what people refer to as "twitch."  (which is a reverse-euphemism to describe a game where player ability is the sole determining factor in every face off between two players) ...and until it's truely MASSIVE...

...There is no new activity in the MMOFPS genre.

If some development team somewhere actually had faith in their MMOFPS idea, do you really think that Planetsides pop state would jade their morale? Since when has something like this ever stopped people from trying at anything?

Sorry but your theory on genre development is absolute bollocks, you're just being a selfish spiteful cunt.

People still play this game and enjoy it, their hard earned money speaks for itself.

It's still fun to log in and shoot some people. With the free stuff ending I see them maybe going to one server and ending in about a year.

You mean- since when has a leading company's failed venture into an unproven market prevented other companies with less resources, less capital, and more to lose stopped them from entering this same market with possible finanicial ruin staring them in the face?

Pretty much throughout the history of the world.  There's two kinds of people that are going to make an MMOFPS game right now, visionaries and fools.  And if you head over to http://www.lostcolonygame.com/ you'll see that it's only fools.  Any self respecting profit minded business is going to avoid the genre so long as SOE continues to perform horribly in it.

If you think everyone in the industry just makes games for the love of games; right up to the publisher's level- and not for money- then you're the biggest fool of all.

The best thing you can hope for at this point is a production team similar to that of DarkFall's... small, poor, dedicated visionaries.  In which case exepct to wait 10 years before the game is finished.

    OR...

You could let PlanetSide die and be forgotten to erase as a market feasability litmus test so the major players will again get involved.  In case you haven't noticed- every big player in the industry treats MMOFPS like it has AIDS they might catch.  Get your head out of your ass.
