I've started with EVE 3 weeks ago, read a lot of stuff about it before I jumped in, downloaded EVEMon to help me with skills
I'm in a great corp (which has home in 0.0 although I'm still in the empire, preparing for my way there), but so far I was on my own, didn't ask for money from corp or any help (I'm very hm stubborn *cough*stupid maybe*cough* when it comes to beginnings in games, I always want to do everything on my own, not asking questions usually but looking it up by myself on the net (I always feel annoying when I'm asking )
so far, I was mining only once and that was in tutorial, otherwise I was doing only combat missions
I think I lost ship only 3 times during my lvl1 and lvl2 missions so far, if I remember correctly it was 2 frigs (one I've lost just few days ago, I met pirates and lost my Thorax so I picked my Incurus and went to a mission... I was beaten up pretty badly at the end there was a hell of a lot of npc frigs and destroyers I took out almost all of them by running away from their group, turning around, then flying towards them destroying 1 or 2 ships and flying away again, then turning back again and making another flight to the middle of hell, using the speed to my advantage, it was tough as hell, but the fun was worth it! probably most engaging mission I've done so far...and I thought I'd be able to take out the last 2 ships without waiting for repairs (almost no armor, no shield, just a structure... well I was wrong ) and 1 cruiser (Vexor, after I lost it I bought a Thorax)
it took me like 1 week to get to cruisers, started with Celestis, switched to Vexor after 1 st day and from then on, Thorax
not sure what I'm trying to say heh, probably just pointless post... well anyway, don't get so upset by losing a ship, always have it insured and make sure that in case that you lose it, you have funds for another ship right away
and if you don't like mining, don't mine, so far I didn't have to and not going to
as for missions, there are few of them where I can't kill everything like the one with some Caldari Sentries that appears after exploring some ruins... but after all, all I have to do is to explore those ruins and make run for it to safety, no need to kill them. you can do all of the lvl1 and lvl2 missions solo without big problems (unless you make a mistake like me, like being stubborn and being sure you can take out the last 2 ships in a beaten up frig (Safety first lol))
I've tried EVE before, it was more than a year ago... got bored as hell after 2 hours and deleted it... gave it a try now, and felt in love with it so if something piss you off in EVE, go away from the pc for 5 minutes, take a long breath, or whatever that helps (like c|_| ^^), think about what went wrong and give it another try, after all it's worth it
(this was just a small heads up from another beginner, hope it helped )
EVE is probably the best MMO in existance right now. And as things turn up to be , probably will be for long time.
That said ... EVE sucks in many other places.
For me the main suck element is that EVE is game for PVP player , and especially PVP player that enjoys strategy or rts.
Dont fool your self. If you are neither, all you have left is boring mining , and flying 1000 missions that all look exactly the same as the 1rst one
agree, missions sux cause they are the same, so it's like grinding in lineage 2 (where I came to EVE from), but the grinding is more enjoyable and engaging thanks to the tactical side of fights, but yea, that's not for everyone, like whole EVE, many people prefer other types of gameplay
for example, I left Linage2 cause I got bored as hell with it, with the endless grinding for exp especially and I found out that EVE is like a better Lineage2 for me, better fights (you can't be half asleep during killing mobs/npcs like in l2 ), pvp oriented, and especially the variety of ships (classes in l2), skills and modules (skills in l2) which is making it more fun for me, 2 Thoraxes in EVE can be so different that it's not even funny (like day and night) where 2 Bladedancers in L2 are same everytime when it comes to skills
and there's so much things in EVE that during those 3 weeks I haven't even touched things like researching, crafting or even mining O.o (but that can scare off lot of people I'm sure)
I'm sorry guys... i mean that you wasted life on EvE, granted after EnB went down cause EA killed it after not adding content, or adding a full pvp system as they promised, lots headed to EvE a far cry from EnB. i've tried this twice now because its closest thing to my old EnB in the space genre, but facts are the ships look weak, missions suck, purely a market based game best suited for chineese farmers maybe. Not to mention the ass to navigate GUI. Pisses me off to see EvE up and running still when this game sucks so bad that its still comes in far below Earth and Beyond today and that game has been dead close to 3 years! http://games.toptenreviews.com/list_ranking_pc_online_mmo_or_mmorp.htm
I just need a place to vent cause EA is a bs corp, that cares not and makes excuses, buys out companies and buries their games and hell with the fans. Over 10 thousand active players at time servers went offline and a ton more when no one thought it was shutting down. Does EvE even have that many players period? Any way i'm just one of about a half million people that are thinking this when we see EvE a big pile of crap we try not to step in still online when not even a 16th as good as EnB i just don't get that.........oh well done venting
EnB Forever, in our hearts and minds it will live on! :O

EVE is not that bad, there are more things to do than just Mining and Missions. They are the easiest things to do and those mentioned in the tutorial. But it doesn't end there. For PvE content you got Storylines, Market, Manufacturing, Researching, Invention, Ratting, Build your own business and/or services, to name a few. For PvP you got Wars, Piracy, Criminal Network, Bounty Hunting, Bodyguard, to also name a few.
EVE is a very extensive universe with more than 3000 systems to visit. This is a game where the more risk it takes the larger the reward. If there is no risk, don't expect something good. Like the saying goes, 'No pain, No gain!' There is no limit to what you can do, but you have to think and decide for yourself. No one will tell you what to do next. Is not like WoW and other MMO's where quests are link to each other and they will take you to new zones as you level up.
things to do in denver when you're dead AKA what can i do in eve?
exploration. no, this doesn't mean just fly around looking at stars. get a covert ops rig set up for probing and start on some exploration missions/tracks/whatever
trading. train up the various trade skills, find a system within a few jumps of half a dozen regions and start buying low and selling high. with a couple of hundred buy/sell orders, you can be rolling in the isk in no time flat.
mining. sure, mining in a mining frig/cruise is slow and tedious, so train up to the mining barges and then the elite mining barges. make 100X what you were making in that frigate/cruiser and do it in the safety of a .5 (kernite and omber), or live on the edge in low sec or 0.0 (this is saying solo play or you and a friend or two playing).
ratting. hunting and destroying npc pirates for fun, isk and salvage
POS building/running. are you running a low sec mining operation? mining moons? have a research facility for your and your friends?
manufacturing. researching your BPOs (blueprint original), hunting down cheap BPCs (blueprint copies) and building goodies until your heart is content. those pvp wars can't go anywhere without ships, weapons and modules to run their wars.
0.0 jumpie-clone guy. you've trained your jump clone skill (infomorph psychology) up to level 5 and have strategically placed your clones in 5 different regions of 0.0 space and are making tons of cash buying low and selling high. sort of like the high sec/low sec trader except that you might not even have standings to outfit a ship in these 0.0 stations anymore.
diplomat. all those corporations and alliances don't get along because they love each other and want peace, not war. no sirree. they get along because of the diplomats greasing the wheels of peace and understanding with their blood and tears.
researcher/scientist/inventor. with 20+ sciences to choose from, you can build up your team of researchers and do a mission apiece for them on a daily basis, in order to double your research points! not only are RP used for the t2 bpo lottery, but they're also traded in for datacores, which are needed by all inventors. which could be the point of your researching - to help finance your inventing!
a ratting trader. you don't just reprocess all those mods you find while ratting, nor do you sell them for a measly 25 isk each to the low bids on the market. no sirree, you save up your mods until you get a stack of 5-50 and then (with your lvl 2-4 trained trading skills) put them up on the market at competitive prices. sure they didn't cost you anything other than a few hundred ammo; but you're getting 50k to 5m a mod instead of 5-500isk each. time is on your side, with your 50+ trading slots, all selling your piles of loot.
a stock market person. true, eve doesn't have a TRUE stock exchange yet. it's got RESX and EGSE though. you could be a financial consultant/broker and advise people on good/bad stocks to purchase for the money they desire to invest, and you could make your fortune buying/reselling stocks, all the while collecting dividend payments.
a corporation executive. maybe you'll find your niche organizing events, such as raids into enemy systems, group mining operations (along with the hauling and reprocessing end of it). maybe you're the guy running the music channel on vent to keep morale up during long ops? don't forget to post about your team's exploits on the corp/alliance websites and forums! the more fun you make the ops, the more people will want to join and participate!
a scout... maybe a sniper. covert ops frigs are good for hunting folks down (the probe bonus ones) and for delivering surprise attacks (the cruise missile carrying ones). they can't hide from something they can't see... can they?
the 0.0 tanker/miner. you're in your battleship, blowing away 1million isk bounty rats with your cruise missiles, all the while mining away with your half a dozen mining lasers. you're keeping the folks in the barges safe and making a tidy extra profit for all of you in the process (don't forget to loot and/or salvage those rats!)
the tackler. here's the build every rookie can quickly get into and then join the pvp fray! don't believe me? ask goonswarm... 10,000 frigates can't be wrong~!!
the alliance builder. you can create a corporation which can hold 5,000+ people. you can place the largest player-owned-stations in existence and arm them to the teeth. or create an alliance to house those huge corporations. and this is just your hobby.
the jammer. you've taken the time to max out a number of electronic and engineering skills. while you might not be able to destroy anyone quickly with your attacks, they won't be going anywhere or hitting anything as long as you're around. your friends love you, as you give them plenty of sitting ducks to shoot.
bleh, i'm rambling at this point. but, there's a plethora of careers in eve, each with quite a few sub careers, and no limits on how you work it.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Again sorry eve is just plain boring and not user friendly, and can't even grab top billing over a game thats been shut down for almost three years >_<
You can list off all its so called content but the arcade style action is not there to make it fun. This game stands in the shadow of a much greater game Earth and Beyond. Thanks a bunch EA for not caring about thousands of fans, lets see what company they buy/absorb next and what other great games get flushed cause of it.

I agree its a shame that Earth and beyond was canned like it was it was a game that had true potential. Best of all is of course that it wasant a fantasy game.
What you have to understand tho is that EvE isant designed to be like E&B eve is a very different game. amnd commming here comparing it to E&B and saying the sdtuff you are is hardly going to convice any EvE players from leaving eve. And concerning that you say EvE is standing in E&B's shadow is a bit odd considering that EvE is still here and E&B is gone.
Srry to say Gman but its not hard to not reach a Top 10 slot when you pick and choose which game gets thier expansions counted and which don't. 14 out of the Top 25 on that list are expansions to games. And its always nice to see less than half of the reviews on a game just give a out of 4 rating with no written review on what they like or dislike tends to put the rating into a bit of question. now also note that it was Exodus which was 2-3 years ago for reviews.
so many people who are basically fanbois try to convince people this game is deep or not easy to learn, or that mining & missioning are not the heart of the game....
in reality most of the game is staring at the screen waiting for your ship to get where you need to go, your either have to jump several systems or further to do whatever..........
mining is the heart of the game, because all ships break down into components that need to be built thru mining....missioning is also a big piece of the puzzle, because you need to make enough money to support PvPing, upgrading, or whatever...
If no one missioned or mined, then prices would steadily rise and eventually no one would be able to afford anything, no manufacturing could take place....
Most of the stuff in the game is very boring, and alot of players don't even bother to do much more than log on, switch skills, log off....
If people bother to mine or mission, they are also multi-tasking because these tasks are mind-numbing and boring, either running multiple accounts, watching TV, playing a console game, etc....
PvP boils down to mostly ganking....
another part of the game is the cheating, exploiting, which the Dev's not only allow but actively are a part of.......
There is absolutely no gain in subbing until after your 14 days are up, use that time to actually play the game for free, and realize without subbing like the OP did, Eve and particularly CCP sucks....
========================== The game is dead not, this game is good we make it and Romania Tv give it 5 goat heads, this is good rating for game.
Eve is not a bad game. It has alot of stuff that other games could learn from. When I started playing I had my brother and some of his from to help me get startet and it all was easy. I made good money and had good skills and other stuff so had fun playing. The problem was just when I started play my brother and his friends diden't wanna be pirats anymore but more a mining corp, and I wanted to PvP more so now I don't play anymore. Sometimes I do get back to EVE to kill some time. EVE has my
It just doesn't hold my interest. The game is designed around reeling you in with the real time skill training. It takes way too long to train skills, there really isn't all that many people subbed. On a daily basis the most I saw online at one time is 26k people. And it usually stays around 20-26k people online. The combat is lame and slow, I hate in game economies and market trading. If I wanna pay that much attention to something I'll become a day trader and make real money. It's not fun when it's a game.
Yeah, yeah, they're adding avatar stuff where you can walk around on the stations, big deal. It won't come for years and when it does there will be better stuff out. EvE is a lame duck and it's only a matter of time before it goes under. It's another Vanguard. All the "hardcore vets" say how great and challenging, and hard it is, but it's really just a time sink that any moron could be good at if they spent the time and effort to get the skills trained up and their ship outfitted.
been a ceo in corp since release and you know after a few days when a new members is recruited if he is corp material or not. some people just sit like a babychick waiting to be fed with gaming experience. it is the social part of the game that is the challenge and thrill it is sandbox game and it is what you maek out of it. it is not a like most other games where u get served dungeon after dungeon, quest after quest.
i have had new members fresh otu of trial that make more isk and more kills then my veterans after just days/ weeks.

I agree Lordstar, when E&B went down I was in the pits, but, to all those who wish for the old game, take a peek at www.earthandbeyond.ca/
The group is working hard on an emulation of the game.
Just 5% of EVE sucks, just 5?
