hi! I'm searching for a new game and this looks very interesting.

Okay, I have some main questions:

Is it a free world? (where you can go where you like be what you want e.t.c.)

Can i just buy game, and then it's no monthly fees?

PvP?

PvE?

thanks! :D

GW has both PvE and PvP (probably the most types of competitive PvP in any single RPG out there right now) unless you buy the PvP-only version from their online store. And yes, you buy any one (or more) of the three campaigns -- Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall -- and there is no monthly fee.

The game world has plenty of options for exploration, something I love doing, but it's not a freeform world. You can't say "oh, I want to climb that mountain" because unless there's a path, you can't go there. So in that sense, the zones can be a bit linear in that you're only allowed to explore certain parts, or can only travel certain ways. Not that everything is a single line, often multiple criss-cross and circular paths are there, so you don't feel like you're being led by the hand, you still have to decide which way to go all the time. But again, no mountain climbing, no swimming, etc.

Okay, very grateful for the info!

Still wondering some things though. The Campaigns, what are these? Is it games you buy, or upgrades or total different games`?

So this thing you say about the paths, by other words. You can't walk on a path and make a shortcut over the grass to another path?

Is there any raid bosses? (instances, raids, catacombs e.t.c)

can you team up with your friends outside the pvp thingy?

Sry for asking question, i just want to make a good choice :D and it's looking veeeery good

The campaigns are the games you buy. Guild Wars, Guild Wars: Factions, and Guild Wars: Nightfall are all campaigns. You only need one of them to play the game, but you will be limited to the content of that particular campaign.

All it really means is that you can't climb steep cliffs and such. It feels constraining compared to WoW, but there's still a great deal of walking space. Just means you can't scale a mountain or swim across a river to take a shortcut, you gotta find that narrow pass or use the bridge.

Actually, the game is 100% instanced. You meet up in towns and outposts to form your parties then step into an instanced map. The whole game is like that. Also, for PvE, party sizes are limited to 8 at a time.

can you team up with your friends outside the pvp thingy?
Yep. Might be a little tricky if you don't all have the same campaigns, but if all of you buy the same one and start at the same time, you'll meet each other right away. And, since GW is open server you won't have to worry about that at all.

The only bad question is the one never asked. I hope my information gives you a clearer picture of the game and how it works. Also, the two wikis for GW are linked in my sig. There's introductory articles in both of them.

PvP? Probably the best PvP out there that isnt RvR. Full skill based sistem where all players have the same armour stats and weapons.. It neds alot of practice and patiente to master this and there is in no situation some guy with uber equipement owning low lvls (NEVER)

PvE? Well its not really the aim of the game.. However it's going to be developed in the next expansion.

    thanks! :D

Not quite. The first chapter, Guild Wars: Prophecies, is considerably better for this style of play as compared to Factions (where you must complete quests to move on) or Nightfall (where you must complete quests and in many cases acquire specific ranks within certain titles to progress). With the original chapter, you can walk to any corner of the map (save 2) at any time if you're strong enough or patient enough. There's a huge amount of area to explore, and much of the land is unused for quests or missions.

Something that is often forgotten concerning exploration. Once you have been to an outpost/town/mission/continent/etc., you can go back there using a few clicks: Open you map, select said hub, click "Travel". No need to run through maps over and over again, nor are you spending time on a means of transport. Another streamlined aspect of Guild Wars.

Sure you could argue it's not "realistic" though it's darn practical (you don't have to wait for guild members to get to a given area for example). Also, while moving from an outpost to another, your entire group follows automatically.

Regarding "raid bosses", there are some end game areas which take quite some time to complete, as well as being really tough (even more so if you feel "Hard mode" sounds tempting). The items they drop (as well as rare items from mobs on the way) are usually going for a sizeable amount of cash between players. Remember though that Guild Wars isn't a "gear intensive" game. Hence said items are sought for their unique appearance, their stats aren't any better than similar (perfect mods) items.
