It has been mentioned by a few others, but a wild west mmorpg would be awesome. I find it hard to believe there are not more games set in the wild west. There's plenty of pvp options with bounty hunting, show downs, etc. I also think it would be great to play a gambler/outlaw. Travelling from town to town as I earn bounties on my head.
Of a simliar ilk, the Deadlands RPG could serve as a great mmorpg setting. It's a fun combination of fantasy and the wild west.
I'd also agree with a few other responses, Shadowrun has tremendous potential for a mmorpg.
ok first off some one said some thing abotu Warhammer being turned in to MMORPG, just so you know they are making a Warhammer online. Some one said some thing about wheel of time I believe this to is also being turned in to a MMORPG.
Now to MMORPG such as Star Trek, it would never work not in a million years just not possible. Same thing with Dune would never work, Same thing for MIB. There were couple others but I forgot what they were.
Now me personally and im a little suprise no one has even brought this one up but I'd love to see them make a DragonLance Online. I'd also like to see a good horror game. Well those are my ideas any way.

You are part of the Federation. You move up in rank just like in the TV show. Problem with this is the limited number of ranks. No 40+ levels as most MMORPGs. You get stationed to a starship, outpost, or space station. There you recieve missions for exploration, science experiments, zone patrol, repair jobs, diplomatic relations, etc. Those in command could get a list of duties from Starfleet and hand them out to subordinates. Once the rank of Captain can be reached the player could actually command a starship, space station, or outpost. If a starship, whenever there is no one to be as acting captain, the ship would dock at the nearest outpost or space station. You have trade skills with the engineer, healing class with the medical doctors, fighters with the security personel.
There's no reason why this game would not work. It can be designed to be fun and entertaining for those who like the Star Trek series and movies. For those who don't think it's possible, give me some reasons why not. Are you just not being created enough to see the possibilities or do you think there is underlining problem that has no solution?
Starship Troopers MMORPG!!!!!... It'll be really cool cuz other than just behind another infantry soldier You can also play pilots, psychics, Generals, Boot Camp instructors.... And maybe other Alien races.. I don't know how'd you'd be able to play the bugs.. Maybe more on a Secretive manner ?? But yeah That'l Be TIGHT
TIGHT!!!!

ANOTHER IDEA IS DEFINATELY WARHAMMER 40k.... JUST IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES... and the GM's can play the Emperor and the psychs.... JUST IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES... I can't even put it all on paper.!!!

I havent read through all 7 pages of this thread so some of this may be repetitive.
First i would like to play the first MMORPG/RTS.
It would involve city/castle building similar to Shadowbane. There would need to be resource deposits spread throughout the world. Players as well as NPCs would be able to harvest these resources to either keep for themselves or turn in to the clan. These natural resources would be needed for making certain items/buildings/etc. In addition to controlling these natural rescource deposits, clans could also have farms built around their city which would provide a steady generic income(gold or whatever). Other clans could raid these farms for gold also. Also trees would be able to be harvested for wood. Gold would be used for upgrading and paying maintenance.
So for example. A clan that does not control a stone mine would be forced to either trade for stone, raid someone elses stone mine and take as much as they can carry, goto war with clan controlling the land of the mine to claim the land for themselves, or just build their walls/buildings out of wood(which would put em at a huge disadvantage if they were sieged.)
Sieges would work similar to Shadowbane. So basically this could all be an expansion for Shadowbane.
I know its been 10 days since the last post on this thread, but after staying up all night working, downloading and writing, I got a good idea for a really freaky mmorpg.
Anyone a Doctor Who fan? You've got time travel, space travel, past present and future. I know very broad idea and would be a massive undertaking to capture the feel and story of Doctor Who, but lol, would it not be an interesting mmorpg.
In fact, Doctor Who is coming back on the tv. Check it out:
If i seem over excited or something, its the pot of extra strong coffee I just finished off and the two bowls of fruit loops cereal. Well just don't stand there scratching your noggen. Tell me what you think: good, bad or dude you need help?

Ok, well, you at least seemed to skim the previous posts, but obviously didn't spend the time to fully read them...
Yes, someone mentioned Warhammer, as in Warhammer 40k, not the Fantasy Warhammer that Warhammer Online is based on, HUGE difference.
I'm the one who mentioned Wheel of Time. And if you had read the post you'd have seen I did infact point out that there is one "in the works" and even provided a link to it. However I also pointed out that this is being done by a no name development company and IS NOT LISCENCED BY ROBERT JORDAN, which means what? It means it'll NEVER get off the ground. Personally I don't consider what appears to be a shoddenly made game which will never go anywhere as one being in the works.
So a Star Trek and a Dune mmorpg would fail, thats insightful, care to share with us why? I mean we could sit here and say the same about your ideas, but it doesn't mean a whole lot without some backing.
Personally I don't think Dragonlance Online is that good of an idea... In all honesty what does DL have goign for it? The characters, plain and simple. Take out the characters and you have a typical fantasy world, nothing special. So basically what you're suggesting is a typical fantasy mmorpg with a couple NPCs named after characters in the book, and places in the world modelled after places in the book. Well, it's going to take more than Sturm and the crew to sell another fantasy mmorpg in a fantasy dominant market. (And for the record, Forgotten Realms is a much better worldset)
Now the horror one is a good idea, would be hard to do if it was to be done right, but a good idea.
Richard J. Cox "There were much of the beautiful, much of the wanton, much of the bizarre, something of the terrible, and not a little of that which might have excited disgust."
Shadowrun or R. Talisorians Cyberpunk would also be cool.
I did see the post on Wheel of Time and have to aggree with that, great series and could make a great MMORPG.
How about Space Opera (If anyone remembers one of the original space Paper RPG's) or Traveller.
RoleMaster, complex to play but on the computer would be easy to implement.
Finally, Vampire the Masquarde and they could add any or all of the other games in that style in one MMORPG, Mage, Werewolf, etc.... Don't have a gothic MMORPG Yet do we ;-)
Good ideas all around... I'd love to design or play:
Star Trek
Pokemon
Stargate
but I think they should make a 'real life' modern day MMORPG and add in cool little powers and storylines all over. Vampires and Vampire hunters over here, Archeologists and mummies over here. Crime bosses and cops over here. Clarivoyants and goths over here. low-level sci-fi tech and government conspiracies over here... put it all together and let people advance in different ways in different directions but still have to come back to interact with others... yeah... that'd be fun...
Oh, and Starship Troopers could be fun too... it'd kinda be a different textured Planetside to me tho... and there'd be no PvP really...

All setting can be worked out easily, very easily...
But to actually limit yourself to a setting is a much as a curse as a blessing.

Don't know if someone has mentioned it yet, but I would like to see a mmo based off of Baldurs Gate. Love Baldurs Gate.
I wish that someone would make a MMORPG based off of Warcraft!!! Oh wait... they are...
Okay, I wish someone would make an MMORPG based of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings... hmmmm, wait, they are... Nevermind, I'm happy
