how can anyone feel that someone's lying and making a fool of them by pretending to be another gender? unless you wanted something out of them (sexual). its like hitting on a transvestite and upon finding out that she is a he, beating them up. your problem not theirs
I will say that alot of this aversion to someone playing a different gender is probably based on homophobia. According to this institute and alot of stuides most of the world is bi-sexual. According to most of America they are straight, heh, contradictions like this are par for the course of human existance, and problems with gender are a certainty. Even in online games .
I play males and females. I really dont like getting personal with anyone. If someone keeps pushing me to get personal, I say whatever I feel at the time, I dont really care what someone online thinks of me personally anymore, Unless I know that person in real-life and know they aren't part of some massive alter-ego head game trip that so many people do with multi-boxing.
If people are using thier characters gender to get things from people then this is begging, and an entirely separte issue. If someone accepts gifts or 'activity' from people presumably based on one's characters geneder then both parties involved should tread very carefully that the transaction is in the game environment only, and not personal. Otherwise threads like this get created.
Ive been online since the 300 baud modem. People will be people. Easier to just accept that.
All MMO girls are not fat goth girls My girlfriend is under 110 and pretty tall. Once in a while a guy will be like "omg ur a gurl" and I always tell her to get some gold off him, if he's trying to hit on a girl through an online game to get some e-gina he deserves the gold loss.
So far all the girls I have met online are fat goth girls or just fat. I must say I LOLed @ this "e-gina". That's great.
mmorpgs are the most feminine of genres when you don't have the testeorone rushes of something like a fps or the competitiveness of say a rts. Instead you have a social game which is appealling to women as well as men. I'd say WoW has probably the most girls of any mmorpg especially with its added mainstreamness and how much of an influence it could be on relationships so as to persuade someones girlfriend to also join the game.
