aw man i love and own the animated movies from the 70's. In fact the Hobbit was quite popular, and i do not think they thought it failed at all.
I think after Peter Jacksons movies, the standards have been raised even more, demanding quality.

While I think a lot of people agree with you on the wasted potential of DnD online, I think there is a lot less consensus that they dropped the ball with LOTRO. I'm loving it, and the servers are packed with other people that seem to be loving it as well. Even most of the people who don't like it seem to agree that it sucks less than everything else
While its good someone can enjoy it, to be honest the game in my opinion is pretty bad, especially for being linked to LOTR which is known for block buster like quality. I would have to say the only good thing i found in the game after playing it for 15 days was the instanced "drama" or story scenes. Everything else from mobs to characters and their classes, were bad. From a game design perspective, its just like the rest of turbines products, half-assed. They made a game to sell off of its name not the actual game. Name before game is bad.
But at least you are enjoying it.

I have to agree with you completely. I was myself taken in by the idea of using the LOTR IP, but the engine just...is...is terrible. I hate that engine, especially the way avatars look disconnected from the world in that very strange way.
There is so much they could have done with this, and their ideas really are nice. Good crafting system I think, interesting classes that I think live up to the lore, and the naming thing which I did not expect, but it actually very nice. I think that alone will catch alot of the IDIOTS that there always are who want to be Legolas spelled incorrectly. It happens in any game with a bowman class of any kind. I can't count the Night Elves I have seen with some derivation of that name. But I digress.
It is obvious that they didn't put alot of work into it. The world itself is insipid, and the dialogue shows it. There is nothing interesting in the towns, or the terrain. It seems almost afraid to do anything that might upset LOTR fans like myself. and I am not upset that it betrays the IP. It doesn't. It's just a super-boring place to be, and thus is no fun to play.

Erm. Tolkien didn't write scripts of how exactly to make an MMO for LOTR did he? Besides this is a MMO mate, the devs can chuck in all the content that couldn't be added in the films not any of the other LOTR games.

Known for blockbuster like quality. Ever see the Bakshi animated movies? Hardly blockbuster.
In film terms, LOTRO doesn't reach Jackson-like perfection of his movies, but they are a damn sight better than a Bakshi movie.

I have no clue what u are talking about. Take out LOTR story and u got nothing in this game period. Classes are weak, same mobs every zone, worst UI ever, everything is copied from other online game but in less extend just so Turbine doesnt screw up another game. Yes the game runs smooth but thats because there isnt much in the game right now.

It is obvious that they didn't put alot of work into it. The world itself is insipid, and the dialogue shows it. There is nothing interesting in the towns, or the terrain. It seems almost afraid to do anything that might upset LOTR fans like myself. and I am not upset that it betrays the IP. It doesn't. It's just a super-boring place to be, and thus is no fun to play.

While its good someone can enjoy it, to be honest the game in my opinion is pretty bad, especially for being linked to LOTR which is known for block buster like quality. I would have to say the only good thing i found in the game after playing it for 15 days was the instanced "drama" or story scenes. Everything else from mobs to characters and their classes, were bad. From a game design perspective, its just like the rest of turbines products, half-assed. They made a game to sell off of its name not the actual game. Name before game is bad.
But at least you are enjoying it.

Known for blockbuster like quality. Ever see the Bakshi animated movies? Hardly blockbuster.
In film terms, LOTRO doesn't reach Jackson-like perfection of his movies, but they are a damn sight better than a Bakshi movie.
