Ive been playing this game since release and i know the issues that plagued the game at that time but since then and after about 30-40% of the games pop left they have had numerous patches that have improved the game since release about 50%, I feel this game upon release had to be bugged to hell seeing as the content in it is umatched by any other MMO atm, But its finally starting to lvl out, graphics are truly amazing, Comabt is great, PVP system still needs a bit of work but then again i think all mmos are always working on a better system for PVP, crafting system is excellent, Only downfall i find in this game and yet another thing that is being improved is the Solo player aspect whcih is very difficult atm. But all in all this game deserve more attention, especially from eq fans because this is basically EQ but 10x better. IMO this game blows away crap like LOTRO, WOW etc etc, those games are simple and geared for simple players really not muich to them. anyways i suggest people give this game a try it does have a lengthy learning curve but once you get used to it youll nderstand why its like that because the content and world are huge. peace

Nope, still garbage. Vanguard will never ever be #1. Why can't you realize this?? Give it about 6 months and there will be enough people playing to merge all servers into one big one.
Unfortunatly Vanguard seems permenantly lost and not because of the dismal performance issues alone. The emptyness of the world, the complete lack of RP options, the empty cities and dead npc's and the completely unbalanced and constantly changing difficulty have destroyed what hope there was left in this title.
On retrospect the idea and the vision was interesting and promising but unrealistic. Vanguard like Lotr online should have started with one continent and slowly expanded, focusing on quality instead of quantity (size of the world and options). As naive as the vision was, its excecution was dismal, and the customer service criminal (not allowing you to cancel subscription and forcing euro gamers to call a U.S. number because they didn't remember their stupid security question). Furthermore the dismal LFG options make the game even unattractive for its original target audience, its amazing that i'm in far more groups and tackling far more challenging content in teams in the casual LotR then i ever did in Vanguard.
In other words, no, i don't see Vanguard ever reaching a number 1 spot again. My advice for you would be to move on.
so, a guy gives his opinion on how he likes the game, and how he would encourage others to try it, and the responses are. nope, it's garbage, and move on.
thanks for the constructive counterpoint
i am one of the other people who is enjoying the game, and i'm glad to see someone with something of a positive opinion on the game. I also, unfortunately, agree #1 is probably not in the games future, especially when looking at the 8 million tonne gorilla that is. but that's not a bad thing, if the game sets itself to be financially viable, that will be good enough for me. EQII started with lots of hitches and hiccups and blown opportunities, nad it's up to expansion # 3 and gaining steam, so i'm not giving up on VG yet
but what do i know, i'm a vanbois, i'm told.
"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement."
ya. ok. whatever.
but what do i know, i'm only a vanbois i'm told.
It will take at least a year before this game is ready for public comsumption. The game only runs on high end computers, hence that leaves it unavailable to the general populace. Not bad mouthing the game just to be vindictive. Potention players need to know that there are some serious issues with this game still.
If Sigil can hire some decent coders to fix this mess, they have a chance.
Don't start crowing about the graphics, they are not that fantastic. You want to see good graphics the runs on tight code, go try LOTRO. At least Turbine can do it with little performance hit.
Vanguard was a great concept, too bad they could not bring it to reality.
Once War and Conan hit the ether, Vanguard will be nothing except a could have been.
I wanted to like Vanguard... I wanted to like vanguard really really badly.
But it didn't run correctly on my computer. And CTDs aren't fun when running through the seamed-seamless world.
But mostly, because they don't actually own any of the technology, I'm inclined to believe they can't fix it themselves. It was just not made for how they are using it... never was, never will be.
This should be a lesson to other MMO Developers. Make your own engine, otherwise you're just a professional mod team.

Give me a break, its April 27, those april's fool jokes are not funny anymore.
Both actions mean he was trolling for a response, so that's what he'll get, responses from trolls.
I'm glad to hear the Sigil is making big improvements in the game. The weakness in solo content and pvp are still two big negatives for me which is why I'll stick with LotRO for now until WAR is released. And finally, the game is pretty empty, which is a major turn-off for many people, we like our MMO's to be crowded and noisy....sort of like a good restaurant...
Never-the-less, if Sigil were to offer me a free trial month to come back I'd probably give it another go.... otherwise no thank you.

Glad you are enjoying it. I would say the same in that it is well worth giving Vangard another shot. Many improvements to the game continue to filter in, and in cannot be said that the Sigil Team are "not" working flat out. I'd been away for a week and was pleased with the new combat animations that had been added to my Monk during last weeks patch. Of course the game still has a long way to go, but the important thing is that it is moving in the right direction. The devs have a list of priorities, and although those priorities do not completely satisfy my order of priorities, I continue to enjoy watching and playing the games many improvements since launch. Good work Sigil, keep it up!!!!!!!
from anywhere in the world would help the biggest issue for me, which is that getting groups can be hard. Otherwise its fun to play and there's lots to keep me busy even solo at level 29.
Glad you are enjoying it. I think you are rather dim-witted and not because you are enjoying Vanguard - more because you, and granted you are not alone, somehow find whatever depth VG has in your mind as a higher form of time wasting enjoyment than things like LotRo and WoW.
Vanguard number 1, rofl seriously this game needs to die and make room for other more interesting games. This game is dieying, in a few months they're going to be merging servers count on it.
The problem is the performances FFS.
The game didn't have many more bugs than EQ2 when it was released.
The performances thought, were shit on an average machine, and still are.
I reckon it will be at least another year for the average player to catch up with the required set up to run the game decently at high level (which is when the graphic stop sucking and start to shine).
Sigil shot themselves in the foot being so arrogant to think that the players would update their PC in order to play the game.
Well I am following this game from day 1 and I won't upgrade my PC, cause they should have put more effort in making a game less hardware hungry.
I guess 95% of people think the same as me, pity Brad was too busy preaching his vision on the forums instead of planning a better engine optimisation from the start.
I hope this will be a lesson for every developer in the future.
PS: Vanguard will never be number 1, Sigil burnt their chance already. The game will stay in the limbo like EQ2, which means it will make money and it will be profiteable but just enough not to be shut down.
here is how the market works:
Once a unstable/bug infested/resource sucking game always a unstable/bug infested/resource.

ive seen this before... bug filled incomplete game at launch? hummm
ah yes... STARWARS GALAXIES
better watch you you might get a
VANGUARD NGE where you have very few classes and talents just like WoW
First of all, crafing sux, and and realy boring crafting system, klick klick klick, chopp wood, klick klick. oh cool i just made an axe who is totally unuseful........
I rather se SWG-pre cu crafting system, well thats the best one so far in a MMORPG game!
It's impossible for me to be impartial about Vanguard because I was/am still really dissapointed with the game and my experience there. I never thought much of Brad McQuaid before but I think even less of him now TBH.
That being said, after some time around the game and talkin with people that play, used to play, hate and love it, I think it's clear that there's two good sides to the coin.
First, I deeply believe now that how much you enjoy Vanguard is almost immediately relatable to your expectations before ever stepping into the game. If like myself you're expecting "EQ2 but better", it's really not going to happen and you will be dissapointed. If your expecting a game that's easy to get into and sucks you in quick and holds you there, that's not going to happen either.
However, if you have patience, a willingness to accept some flaws (small and large), have no overiding need for original content, can live with bugs and have a mind to really be your own story teller, then Vanguard might actually work well for you. The obvious flipside to that is lots of game with far more polish can provide with you this also.
So as with everything else, it comes down to comfort, convinience and personal preference. I do believe that Vanguards fate is in it's own hands, it can either drastically make itself better or continue to fall down the path, stumbling around like a drunk in the dark.
Important Information regarding Posting and You
I think the game itself is a marvel. It came out way too soon, though.
There just isn't as many folks playing Vanguard anymore, so grouping is quite difficult at certain times...

i thought april fools was done? ]
No but really, the game has soo much potential, and i love the fact that you can buy houses, and all that, i just wish there was more for the casual player, but who knows, maybe ill try this game out in like a couple of months or when LOTRO gets old, which will happen.
Sutorx
Vanguard is a great game.
I just built a caravel last night and its beautiful!
My next project is selling a couple of sloops so I can afford that plot of land I have my eye on, and start building my house.
Thats what I like about this game...its a world, not just a themepark.
Brad's vision= Dark & Light.
hehe.. guess your brain must be wired differently to mine
I am clearly too "simple" a player then
