Where does true FFA PVP still exist?

I'm trying to find something to tide me over until PoBS or AoC. I would really prefer something with FFA PVP (Don't suggest WoW). If I can't find anything decent I may just resub to AC1 Darktide and see what's happening there . These are the ones I've already played anyway!

UO - EvE - L2 - DaOC (was tempted but heard the community was dead) - ShadowBane - Vanguard

If anyone knew of any games that I've overlooked and should try, I would greatly appreciate any feedback whatsoever!

Thanks!

Well there's a lot of FFA PvP in Iraq right now. You may also be able to find some in most South African countries as well. If that's to far, just take a trip to Martin Luther King Dr in any major city. Scratch that, if you're white  you won't get the full FFA PvP experience on MLK DR. because the mods are pretty strict about PKing white people. Maybe you could just go to a GWAR, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpses, or Skinny Puppy concert and just jump in the mosh pit. It's basically the same thing.

lots of good advice from jimmy - though i have to take issue with 'South African' countries - since South Africa (Republic of South Africa) is a country - and 'South African' is a nationality.

besides, places like Sudan and Eritrea are possibly more dangerous, and lets not forget central and Western Africa too...

but my top tips would be Falluja (Iraq) or visit cartel owned agriculture in south america wearing a dark blue jacket sporting the initials DEA in big white letters

    Thanks!

You listed pretty much all of the FFA PvP mmorpgs. If none of them interest you, you should probably resub AC. I am in the same boat, but I refuse to play a game that is a ghost town regardless of how good the pvp is. Which for me rules out AC1, granted it was fun while the game was alive.

Playing - Minecraft, 7 Days To Die, Darkfall:ROA, Path of Exile

    Waiting for -

True FFA PvP exists on Vanguard's FFA PvP server, but you need an ironclad stomach for this.  I tried it, and I played with a core group of friends but did not enjoy it.

I play on Team PvP on Varking because I need that spice of challenge, danger, and sense of an unpredictable environment.  The Team PvP server does this for me enough.  There are raiding teams of PvP players that you sometimes have to look out for.  It can actually be a lot of fun at times.  lol.

FFA PvP is far too self destructive to ever be a good choice for a MMO.

Heck ,just look at the real world examples.

  • siftifiedsiftified Member Posts: 258

I disagree strongly that FFA PVP is too destructive.

On AC it was purely CONSTRUCTIVE.

    For example:

    • Strong guilds and alliances were built
    • Dungeons, towns and lifestones were "owned" or frequented by certain guilds so most players knew where they were sfae and where they were not
    • FFA PVP with NO safe zones made it impossible for 500 players to set up a market stall in city and generate huge ammounts of lag
    • Oh and of course the PVP was very skill orientated, it was never all about the level of your character

Anyway's my country doesn't have access to the Iraq FFA PVP server since we don't seem to condone gank squads.

You could always try Rappelz, its almost a carbon copy of L2 except its free. You can attack anyone not in citys although there are minor penaltys for pk'ing lower lvl people.
  • siftifiedsiftified Member Posts: 258

Yeh UO is also tempting to return to

And I might give Raapelz a look aswell!

For true FFA the only place to look is Darkfall. Sorry.

Planetside will hold you over till AoC. http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=8255 watch this trailer

A decent number of people who frequent the official darkfall forums are playing VanguardSoh because it is the only new game offering FFAPVP and most of them enjoy it for what it's worth.

Since you are interested in AoC you should go into their forums and ask if people are playing in FFAPVP mmos so you can have the opportunity of meeting them in game.

I think the failure of FFA pvp in games is due to the two extremes in gaming mentality.  Unfortunately, those two styles represent a very large portion of mmo players.

First, you have the complete jerks who seem to relish in making people go through pain for the sheer enjoyment of watching it.  I have to say that some of these people probably would commit murder if they could get away with it;  of course, most realize they are too stupid to get away with it.  They promote hate, and that is simply wrong.  I'll state now that I don't consider pks who kill you, take your loot, and run off to look for another victim, a part of this group.  I've seen FAR worse, including virtual rape (not allowing someone to run off, thus simulating abusive control over a victim) where several sub-humans terrorized a rl girl with profane and disgusting language.  Fortunately, these people were banned.

Second, you have the people who consider ANY type of competition in game to be indicative of a bloated e-peen.  What type of person is so scared of the natural world that they feel they need to hide from it when interacting with others in an online setting?  Can you imagine nutured state they exist in irl?  Sure, they might be functional human beings, but I really doubt they could stand up to a serious challenge.  No integrity.

IMO the problem with mmos isn't the limiting factor of the games.  Its todays society and our twisted representation of ourselves online.

if you think WoW is FFA pvp then you are seriously wrong.  anyway FFA PvP doesnt really exist because its a crappy idea.  if you are looking for a game where everyone (usually NOT on ur own team as most MMO's have teams) is fair game then good luck i am sure there are a few.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

    • Dungeons, towns and lifestones were "owned" or frequented by certain guilds so most players knew where they were sfae and where they were not - This doesn't sound like a good thing..I like to go where I want, when I want in a game, not avoid 1/2 the content because someone "owns" them

    • FFA PVP with NO safe zones made it impossible for 500 players to set up a market stall in city and generate huge ammounts of lag - I would think it would be impossible to set up a stall anywhere actually, except your own safe zone

    • Oh and of course the PVP was very skill orientated, it was never all about the level of your character - Yeah right, I'm sure the level 25 player takes out the level 155 all the time over there....

Anyway's my country doesn't have access to the Iraq FFA PVP server since we don't seem to condone gank squads. "nods", lots of Carebears eh?

UO/AC's FFA PVP survived and prospered because there were new and and the MMORPG landscape had few choices.. the first time someone came along (EQ) and offered players a gank free environment, they came in multitudes..and U/O and AC faded away under the tide of games that followed it.

I remember in DAOC they created two FFA PVP servers, and while I enjoyed them..most other people didn't and before long they shut down one and now the 2nd is a ghosttown.  I doubt Mythic will even bother with a FFA PvP server in WAR.

I really wish Darkfall would come out, because it would be very interesting to see if a FFA PVP game really could thrive in todays gaming market.  Closest we're going to see any time soon is AOC and it will be interesting if people can handle the level of PVP pain that will be permitted in that game.

Darkfall doesn't exist.  It's not even in Beta... Sheez people... get a grip.  I'm watching it too but telling people it's an option for FFA PVP is just silly when it STILL isn't even in beta.
