I confess.. .I'd be pretty upset by now...I remember when WOW launched my server was pretty much the same way, and I guess when they gave me free sub time (and more importantly, extra rested bonus) for missed play time I felt a little better. But at the time I'm sure I was cursing Blizzard's name.
Wait...I did that again when I reached the end game raiding.... should have seen it as a foreshadowing....

Its normally down to the time difference, if the staff running the european servers run into a problem with a patch at say 10am GMT, then they cant get support from California based developers until there get into work at approx 4pm GMT.
European hosted servers cant really deploy the patches at a time more convenient to US developer support as that would mean performing deployment during peak times. Therefore the only solution is for the US developers to provide the relevant support during patch rollout at the time convenient for the customers, i.e. they have to work late night or very early mornings.
E.g. a 6am GMT patch rollout would require a west coast developer to provide support at 10pm PST onwards. A midday GMT rollout would require a west coast developer to provide support from 4am PST.
All the more reason why i decided to go with the US rather than the European. Sadly the support on most games by European handlers are sorely lacking ...
I wish now I had gone with a US server, or simply not even bothered with the game. The lag seems a lot higher there also - a friend in Spain told me she was getting better ping to the US servers than her hubby did to the Euro servers.
And it sitll upsets me that we cannot even use the Turbine forums - because quite frankly the CM forums suck for getting any game info or asking questions about it.
And now I see there is a new feature available for Euro and other non-US players - free exploits for a week or so. The patch notes for the US server were posted, and they include an exploit fix. But the other servers won't be patched for at least a week, giving people lots of time to farm the mob that is not supposed to be dropping loot.

Euro patches are a full WEEK behind US patches. And if it follows the usual pattern, it will get further and further behind. I don't know if CM is as bad as Ubisoft was (they cannot be worse..), so maybe .. I hope.. things will get better. But I am not counting on it.
All I can say is , give Codemasters as much positive support as you can, flaming them will do nothing . Try to understand why they took so long and be happy that they may have eliminated future issues . If you feel that Codemasters is not handling issues right, start a petition on the Turbine LotrO forum .

I will give them a chance but there are other issues besides just the downtime, like publishing exploit fixes on the US patch notes a week before the servers outside the US get them, giving those people plenty of time to do any exploit farming.
Uhm... well you see, that is the problem.
those of use playing on the Euro servers ar blocked from USING the Turbine forums...
The patching process between EU and US isn't entirely Codemasters fault.
It's Turbine's responsibility to set the date in which they release their patches, and currently they're just doing it when it suits them, not taking into consideration Codemasters might not be 100% ready with the translations and such, which causes Codemasters to lag behind. If Turbine had a little more patience maybe they could sync up the patches with Codemasters and release them together (like Blizzard do).
It's also Turbine's reposibility to post the patch notes, and in that department again they're only thinking of their own selfish ways. They know posting an exploit fix would cause EU to be able to exploit it until the fix reaches them and yet they post it anyways.
So you can't blame Codemasters for it all, Turbine are equally to blame because they're being totally unreasonable in the way they treat their EU Publisher.
Regarding the server outages, that is totally Codemasters fault
Apparently CM is supposed to be doing the French and German translations for the patches. I suspect that is part of the delay between the US and Euro server patches.
The servers have been up for two whole days now (almost), so we will see how it goes with the next patch scheduled for Tue or Wed.
I am not blaming CM totally, but they do seem to be having problems figuring out their servers...
The servers went down at the 2nd on 8 (German time) till 13:00 announced. There was a patch. Not like the us servers say up when beeing patched.
From then on i was able to play on Belegaer just fine. However, at 20:00 a few of my guildies crashed. Must have happened to a lot of people as servers where then rather empty and they could not log back in until after midnight.
Yet i and many others where still playing.
The server have been down for planned maintenance and in the evening for less than 5 hours some people could not log in.
Before flaming uselessly care to read announcements. Oh and by the way i am more than happy with codemasters. Normally maintenance is Thuesdays, but as we had an bank holiday they postponed it for an day so we could play all day when we where off.

yes in fact I *DID* read the announcements. I read the announcements about not being able to log in on two different patch days for mearly 16 hours PAST the time when the patches were supposed to be done.
But I am also waiting to get some response from Turbine about why we cannot log into the Turbine forums, they have been totally silent on that for 2 weeks now.
If the patch is supposed to be finished at 12:00 and you cant login at 23:30 (at which point everyone could again) this is a max of 11:30 hours, not 16, not 19.
And this is also totally wrong, as you could login and play all afternoon. And many could even play while the problems where there, the problems that lasted << 6 hours.
We're pleased to report that the issues with the login servers have now been resolved. We'd like to note that tonight's issues, whilst still connected to logging in were different to the ones seen earlier in the week. As you know we are continually working to achieve a permanent fix and feel confident that good progress is being made. We would like to once again apologise for the downtime this evening and assure you of our continued commitment to achieving a solid, top-notch service for you.

Hi all
We sincerely apologise for the current situation with logging into the game for some users. This currently affects around one third of the player base; we are working intensively to get customers back into the game. If you are affected by this problem please attempt to log in approximately every 20 minutes – this will help us in returning you to middle-earth.
Many thanks

That is all well and good - unfortunately, some servers right now are down again.
And Snowbourn has been down for nearly 20 hours now.

Uhm.. no.
The last patch was some 12 hours - twice as long as what it was supposed to be. Then in addition to that, the login servers were broken for about half the people.
And BTW, the maps for the French and German versions are STILL broken.
And some servers are down again even as I write this...
